Art Step in Downtown Bryan, Texas on June 4 - 05/31/10 11:32 AM

Art Step is coming up this weekend in Downtown Bryan, and it's already getting some good publicity on facebook and twitter. This year, we are celebrating the 5th anniversary of Art Step.
Most locals already know about First Friday in Downtown Bryan. Art Step is bigger, with more of an emphasis on the arts. I also saw this morning that the Brazos Valley Farmers Market is going to set up in the church parking lot across the street from The Village and Downtown Uncorked.
There is plenty of information on the Web and facebook. In addition, here are a couple … (2 comments)

College Station Real Estate - Brazos Valley Premier Homes - 05/21/10 05:27 PM

Happy Friday!
I'm pleased to report that we've brought a new Website on-line, with enhanced search functions and an automated comparative market analysis tool.
The enhanced search functions featured on BrazosValleyPremierHomes.com allows clients and prospective clients to save searches for Brazos Valley real estate, as well as have current and new listings emailed to them. The functions are completely automated, so browsers don't have to speak to an agent. The site also features several Quick Searches, allowing clients to search major real estate categories, such as Premier Homes, Single-Family Homes under $150,000 or Condominiums with just one click.
Another neat … (2 comments)

Training with the Social Media Toolbox - 05/19/10 02:28 PM

Good afternoon,
I spent my morning leading a Social Media Best Practices class for a large state agency headquartered here in the Brazos Valley. The agency is unique, with several distinctly different divisions, each with their own competitive client base. It was a good time.
My emphasis today was on owning a toolkit, with several different tools (platforms) in the kit. Different businesses will use these tools in different ways. Twitter is a perfect platform for some businesses. For others it may be lost time. By having all the platforms in the kit, or at least a working knowledge … (1 comments)

Condominiums - Reasonable Housing for Texas Aggies - 05/19/10 01:12 PM

Hi everyone,
Every year we have an internal meeting to review the best properties for folks who are limited to $120,000 or less. One property type I always watch for is something around $100,000 that I would feel comfortable putting my mother or child in. In houses, those are few and far between, although we usually score a couple every summer. The real answer lies in condos.
There are currently several complexes in Bryan and College Station priced at $100k or less. Most were built in the early 1980's and some are showing some wear. The best of them anticipated … (1 comments)

Texas A&M Commencement - Sometimes Bittersweet - 05/13/10 12:10 PM

Dear readers,
It's graduation time in College Station again, as a record class of seniors prepare to graduate this weekend and go out into the world. This is the end of a tunnel that parents saved for, and kids anticipate almost as much as the parents.
For locals, graduation is sometimes a bit bitter-sweet. Yes, as permanent residents of the Brazos Valley there is no way we can do without the money that students and parents bring to Bryan and College Station. Texas A&M is the machine that makes our community go.
But more than that, we'll miss many of … (3 comments)

Texas A&M System Has Record Impact on Bryan College Station Economy - 05/01/10 11:16 AM

Dear readers,
The economic impact of Texas A&M and other local members of the Texas A&M University System expanded by almost $250 million in 2009, climbing to surpass $3.5 billion annually, according to Texas A&M's Division of Finance.
The direct local impact of Texas A&M and system affiliates was $1.4 billion. The "multiplier effect," how many times a dollar is spent and re-spent, raises the number to $3.5 billion. The rise was attributed to current construction, research, an increased visitor presence, and a record student enrollment of 48,702 in 2009.
According to a press release, "The annualized average payroll for … (1 comments)
