STEP UP TO THE PLATE ~ Part One - 09/30/07 10:09 AM
After having been in about five weeks of two sports at once for our son, I realized that many of the lessons we learn in life come from playing team sports.  Realizing, too, that not everyone has the opportunity to be coached well, to play a team sport, or to have parents teach us sportsmanship, I have decided to write a weekly blog for the next five weeks (at least) on sportsmanship, what lessons we can take into our daily lives, and how it can affect us and those around us.  This series will be entitled "Step Up To the Plate", … (14 comments)

It's All About "Meme"??!!?!?!? - 09/28/07 08:13 PM
So all of my growing up years, my mother taught me that it was not ever all about "me".  I even tell my two kidlets that today.  Therefore, when Rita tagged me, I was (and am) unsure what would be interesting to write about myself.  So after some consideration...here goes:
1.  While a senior in high school (Gresham, OR) I was fortunate enough to sing the National Anthem at the great Candlestick Park (San Francisco, CA).  The Giants game was really a fun game and they won that day, too!  Very weird experience, and one that I shall always treasure, too!
2.  I am the … (18 comments)

The Meaning behind the Name... - 09/28/07 11:07 AM

I have been a loan consultant with Hill Valley Financial Services for quite some time now, but never had given much thought to the name.  I know that the owner, my friend, had originally named it what it is because she lived on a street by the name of Hill Valley.  I know that my husband has always teased her and told her that it was an oxymoron (and it is).  Today, though, as I sat at a business center in Sacramento (sipping a Starbucks) preparing to go tour the wine country with my sister-in-law shortly, I was thinking and inspiration … (4 comments)

Encouraging the "Pursuit of Happyness" in others - 09/28/07 06:23 AM

A few days ago, I read a post by a fellow Oregonian, Alecia Barnes blog about believing and receiving.  Great post, by the way!  Anyhow, it prompted me to write this reminder to all of us.  I am sure that many of us saw that Will Smith movie.  It was a good one and a great reminder for all of us to stick out what challenges life may throw our way!  My favorite line, though, had nothing to do with his pursuit of … (19 comments)

Give it to the busy girl... - 09/23/07 11:51 PM
So have you ever found yourself in this position?  Sitting at your computer trying to get work done, squeezed between baseball practice, PTA meetings, church choir practice, and civic commitments.  When all of a sudden your blackberry beeps that you have a new email message.  You go to check it tentatively....knowing full well that someone, somewhere is asking for your time, your attention, your help.  Now, I am the first to say that I love to give and love to help.  The busier I am, the more organized I become, the more I accomplish...to a point.
While it is true that busy … (5 comments)

Let's Get it Started!!! - 09/23/07 07:09 PM
So, here will be my posting, and my experiences with our latest building process!  This home is going to take some time, hard work, creativity, and beyond.  I want to, though, show you the process from start to finish.  I will be adding photographs when appropriate, advice when perhaps helpful, and waiting for your ideas and input on any and all challenges on this home.
We purchase our property on the 28th of August.  It had a n existing pole barn (which had been built a few years prior, permission granted to have done so by the county).  During the past … (10 comments)

ANOTHER RACE DAY GONE...MORE TO COME! - 09/23/07 06:28 PM
Today in Portland, we had the 16th annual Komen Race for the Cure.  As Portland has traditionally been a very big supporter of the cause, it was no surprise that the attendance was overwhelming!  With the sun shining through the clouds and the air feeling fresh and crisp on the first Sunday of fall, thousands of people were out in full force.  Pink glitter, silver tiaras, striped tube socks, tutus, and more adorned the streets of downtown Portland as many people joined forces to fight breast cancer.  I must say, though, that losing two good friends in the past 10 days to … (4 comments)

The truth about Luck - 09/21/07 04:29 PM
The truth...
Luck is not luck.  I know that this is a topic which may irk people.  However, I want to say that for the record we should be very careful when saying "Good luck".  Not much in this life has to do with luck.  Sure, childhood games... go fish... and things like this are luck-centered.  However, I do not consider things in my life to be "lucky" or "unlucky".  Instead I see them as God given, derived from my efforts, or my mistakes.
I understand that when someone says "Good luck" that they are being friendly.  However, when commenting on blogs, … (9 comments)

LOSING = GAINING - 09/16/07 10:47 PM
It is all in how we look at things and at life.  In losing, we can gain.  I just had a friend who passed away this week very tragically (as she was far too young)...This is likely going to ramble on a bit, as I have a very sad heart.  I ask, then, at the outset for your patience and forgiveness as I rant, muse, and spill my thoughts!
It got me to thinking.  Why when we lose we still keep our chin up, our brave face on, and continue moving forward.  It got me thinking about how losing teaches us things.  About … (8 comments)

The New OC... Take a look!! - 09/13/07 04:07 PM
T5his morning, I attended a forum hosted by First American Title of Oregon City.  (Thank you team!)  It was great information provided to us in the industry by Mayor, Alice Norris, City Planner, Larry Patterson, and three gentlemen responsible for developing unique areas of Oregon City.  One which rumors have milled around about will be "The Rivers".  This will be an amazing concept similar to Bridgeport or the Gresham Station!  We saw some renderings and heard from the man responsible for the area.  It will truly be beautiful and amazing, as it helps to stimulate the OC and surrounding areas' economies.  … (2 comments)
