A Quiet Fountain - 11/13/07 04:54 AM
The fountain at Marshall University will be turned off tomorrow.  If you’ve seen the movie “We Are Marshall”, you know why.
November 14, 1970, the DC-9 carrying Marshall’s football team, coaches and some of their fans clipped some trees just before the Tri-State Airport and crashed.  All 75 aboard the plane were killed. 
Although Huntington is our second largest city, it is still a small town.  Imagine everyone in your town touched with grief.  Then imagine them trying to learn to go on.  That is one of the hardest parts of grief, living.

Tall One has started reading my Stephen King books.  I was her age when I first “discovered” him, and I love that she’s reading my old books.  She’s starting with Salem’s Lot and snuck it to school.  She brought it home, amazed, and told me to look in the front.  There was my name in my loopy teenage script, “Sarah Murphy”.  Wow, that takes me back!

Sorry, Jeff.  No disrespect intended at all.  But that’s how I felt when your wife Rocky thought something I wrote was good enough for her Mothers Fighting For Others blog. 
I will admit that I don’t feel worthy to be there.  I mean, take a look at their writers page!  It starts with Rocky Turner and Julie Ferenzi, the founders of the site.  (You might know them both as AR members – and if you don’t, you should.)

I just got done watching “We Are Marshall”.  Around here we just call it “the Marshall movie”. 
I am probably the last person in West Virginia to watch this movie.  I wanted to while it was at the theater.  Somehow I didn’t.  I bought the movie as soon as it came out.  It’s been sitting with the rest of my movies, in somewhat good company, but I just couldn’t do it.
I knew that they died.  I know that we have to go on.  It’s just hitting to close to home.

Listing Photos Matter - 11/02/07 11:54 AM
This morning I looked through our MLS at listings that have expired.  I looked only at residential listings that expired within the last two weeks.  This is a small area so we only had 68. 
Well, “only” is in the eye of the beholder.  We could also say that in this small area, 68 families were unable to move within their listing periods.  I have been there as a seller myself, and it’s not a happy position to be in.  Sellers want to move and get on with their lives.
