How many of you wonder what is happening on your computer when something seems to be going on but you don't know what? Happens to me quite frequently.

I get emails from a site known as GiveAwayOfTheDay.com and today they have a give-away that offers a much better Task Manager than the task manager that came with my computer.

Each give-away is free for that day only, after that, it will cost you. I didn't realize that there was a better task manager than what I had, so I'm a bit excited about today's give-away. Quite frequently, my system runs slow, and the task manager doesn't really give me enough info...hopefully now, I can control this, as one feature lets me temporarily stop whateve is going on.

I would offer more info, but my schedule has been crazy the past few days, and I must be heading out the door, but just wanted to quickly let everyone know about this free product before I leave. I do believe the give-away lasts until midnight PST. There is a countdown timer on their site. Enjoy!

Adding Your Active Rain Blog To Your Website

I was reading a BLOG about one method of adding your blog to your website. I would like to also offer you two more methods which may work for you.

I have a website for another business I own, and I wanted to add a discussion board. I created the board, then went into the area that lets me create new pages for my website. When you add a new page, you get the link either on the left hand side of your web page, or you get those little boxes that go across the top. My site has the little boxes. When you choose to create a new page, you are also offered the option of linking an outside page to that box or link, which is what I did. When someone clicks on that box/link it takes them straight to my discussion board. You can do the same thing with your blog....just create a link that says "Blog" or title it anyway you choose, and you have a direct link which appears as a page on your website.
For those of you who have software that allows you to create images/banners, you may create you own image, whether it be a text image, or a picture image, then add that picture to your website with a direct link to your Blog. There are some sites on the web that allows you to create linking banners too, especially if you have have a MySpace page, they have all kinds of sites for creating interesting images/banners which you may add links to.

If you know how to create an image/banner, but do not know how to add links, you can do a search on the web for basic HTML commands. My favorite way is to use NVU.com software, which is a free HTML editor which works very much like a word processing program. Go to NVU.com and download the free software, then go to the BLOG I wrote explaining how to use this software. It took me a short while to figure it out once I used it, but we are all strapped for time, so I thought I would write a quick tutorial for the basics. I will probably re-write that blog now that I have been using the software for several months and I am now much more familiar with it. Keep an eye on my blog for the new tutorial. Hopefully, I will have this done in the next week. If not, I will get on it after the Thanksgiving Holidays.

The 50,000 Dollar Blog! Ooops, I meant 50,000 Points Blog.

We do get a dollar per point...right? NO?
Fine, then I will just go to bed and dream that I do.

I've seen a lot of Milestone Blogs, for hitting the first 10K, 25k, 50k, 100k, and so on.
So I thought, ok, I'll do one too. Blogging is about points, right? Actually, I venture to say it is more about ideas, and business, and networking. About building relationships and trust, and then...we get rewarded by points, which is all a part of the competitive spirit of Active Rain!
(By the way...this will not be a short blog...so if you are the type that only reads short blogs, you will miss the message)

Active Rain...and 50,000 points...wow!
It's a combination of work and fun. I consider my work to be something I enjoy, so it's a lot more fun that work for me. I don't think I would want to be blogging if I considered it as a chore. That would make it hard to actually write a blog, or to even think of a topic to write about, or to even be motivated to think about blogging. But the reality is that blogging, and reading blogs is addictive...which is why I posted the image you are seeing to your right ------->

Although I like writing about the business side when it comes to blogging, helping to save homes can be a bit of a narrow topic at times unless I want to keep linking to newspaper articles telling us the latest thing the gov't is throwing at us...but to be honest with you, they throw so much "junk" out there, and then we learn a bit later that they didn't exactly offer the truth, or implement it properly, or even follow through at all, that I have reached a point of throwing a lot of that information over my shoulder along with the entire salt shaker, as it mostly seems worthless and sometimes geared towards just pacifying the public while they go back into their meetings still searching for how they can explain that they let this mess happen in the first place....or hoping no one really notices at all that they let it happen.

My topic for this blog? Business...of course!

BLOGGING HAS PRESENTED A SLIGHT PROBLEM
The problem I have encountered here on Active Rain is that if I attempt to blog about my company and how it benefits other Professionals in the Real Estate Industry, it tends to be viewed as a solicitation. Actually, when I worked for my previous company, there was some truth to that. I left that company for ethical reasons, and I recently wrote a BLOG about that topic, so I will spare you the details here, just click here if you are curious (you know you are, but finish this blog first).

You see, I am in the business of helping to save homes from foreclosure, and the company I previously worked with charged an up-front fee for people to join that company, and they encouraged us to recruit for them by paying us half of that fee. They built a recruiting monster recruiting over 3000 people...but that is all they really did, recruit, which led to lots of ethical problems. So, the perception with that company was one of solicitation...not a good reputation to have, and one I am glad to be away from.

I MADE A SWITCH
The company I am associated with now does not charge those up front fees. We help people to save their homes, and we can teach you how to do the same, but without those fees to join. You can help homeowners to save their homes, make a nice commission to do so, and add extra income to help if you are struggling in today's economy. This is truly a win-win situation, one which is allowing many Realtors and Mortgage Brokers to stay in the industry they love since we work the down side of this market. The best part is...it doesn't take a lot of time, allowing you to continue to do the work you love! It does however, allow you to add an extra service to your business, which brings in extra revenue.

Are you having problems with some of your photo's?
Not everyone is a great photographer. We can't all get that perfect lighting, or that perfect angle and in today's economy, it may not be easy to afford a Professional Photographer for that perfect picture.

I read a BLOG recently asking for feedback/critique on a picture of a house. A couple of replies had to do with the very light areas of the photo, referred to as a "washed out" look. If you are having trouble taking the kind of pictures you want, there is still hope for you as there are a number of software programs that let you work with specific parts of your picture.

The picture on the left (below) is the picture posted on the blog I mentioned requested critique. Notice the bright spots. When I was reading the blog and the comments, I realized that I have software that can help with this. It is Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10. My software is several years old, so I am sure it has been updated several times, but with this software, I am able to take those light areas and darken them up, or if need be, I can play with various other elements to help improve the picture quality.

In this particular shot, I chose to darken up the light areas of the house (see pic on the right), which would be the roof and the walls. There is also a light area in the grass just in front of the house and I chose to darken that just a bit too, helping to eliminate some of the washed out appearance. True, this is not perfect, but realize, this is the first time I have played with this function of this software. With a little effort, I am sure I could make this look much better. I wanted to post this information to let those who read this know that you can easily edit your pictures. I found this program to be user friendly as I was able to quickly figure out how to accomplish this task.

The picture below (left) was on the website of our Active Rain blogger who was requesting critique. I chose to darken the roof just a bit, but I also choose to darken the lawn, bringing out the green in the grass. While playing with the software, I learned that I could totally remove the sidewalk and the program filled in the area with grass perfectly. I couldn't tell the picture had been tampered with. I didn't post that particular picture, but just wanted to let you know that is just another of the functions you can perform with this software.

Below...I just added a border to the picture of this house, trying to jazz it up a bit. The program has many borders available and the colors can be altered as well as the various levels of thickness. A lot can be done with this software. I realized today I need to play with this software a lot more, it has lots of possibilities.

If any of you choose to purchase the software I used to edit these photos, and have trouble figuring out how to do what I did, just write or call, I'll be glad to help. If I get enough requests, I will write a blog with instructions.

While on the subject of software...how many of you have been looking for software that allows you to pull a person out of the picture so that you can add that person to a different picture. If that question seems a bit vague, just look at my picture here on Active Rain. I pulled myself out of one picture, and placed myself into another picture. I can easily change that background over and over again, and I have already done so about 10 times and now have pictures I can rotate here. I can have a different house in the background every day if I want to.

To do this, I am using Photo Impact Pro (Version 10). Rather than pulling myself out of the picture, I actually remove the background, and insert another background, or once the background has been removed, I can drag my pic over to another picture. Perhaps you have a picture of a house you would like to use, but don't like the surroundings of the house and want to get rid of the background? Now you can. You may want to leave the shrubs in the front though, or you would have blank white spots where you removed them.

I bought both of the above programs several years ago.
MS Digital Image Suite cost me $48.57 while Photo Impact Pro cost me $65.07. I got both programs at Sams Club. I've seen the Digital Image Suite at much higher costs in other stores. I am not sure how much these programs cost today. I assume they are still available.

As a side note, I am sure some of you have been reading the various blogs about copyright issues. In staying in accordance with the rules of Active Rain and also in accordance with copyright laws, although Mindy did request a critique of her photo, I did ask permission to make adjustments and to post her photo in this blog.

What Are You To Do With This Down Market?

The Real Estate Industry is a truly interesting creature. It has it's ups and it's downs. During the up years, everyone flourishes, even those who don't really work hard. The down years, however, separate the men from the boys and the women from the girls. Only the strong survive!

The down side to this though is that during the really tough times, some of the strong may not survive either. They may work hard, yet it simply just does not work out for them. I'm writing about this because I may be able to help. But then I run into that one little problem I see people talking about all the time here on Active Rain...the blog that is perceived as a "solicitation." This is far from that though and I hope if you are concerned that you may become one of many Real Estate Professionals who may have to find "another job," that you take the time to read this.

I am a part of the Real Estate Industry that is helping people to save their homes! Lots of Realtors and Loan Officers are joining forces with us, adding this service to their business, thus providing them with the extra income to allow them to stay in the industry. The best part about what we do though is that it doesn't take a lot of your time. We have people who do the dirty work for us, our job is to find those who need help, do the initial interview and take the application, which we turn over to those who do that dirty work I mentioned a moment ago.

Here is the important part that you need to understand though....

I recently changed companies (mostly for ethical reasons - I wrote a BLOG about it).
The company I previously represented charged a rather hefty up front fee to become a part of company. The company I represent today does not charge such fees! There is no cost to you other than a small amount of time to learn our procedures. You will want to read the BLOG I mentioned a moment ago, as it offers details regarding the main differences between the two companies. I can now provide much better services to homeowners than I could before. Previously, I could only help those who were two months or more behind on their mortgage payments (Loss Mitigation). Now, I can help those who have not fallen behind yet, but know that their loans will be adjusting soon (Loan Modification). This helps to save their credit.

On the back side, there are some homeowners whose homes cannot be saved, and I am putting together a network of Realtors who specialize in Short Sales and can help them exit the home if necessary. If you want to become a part of The Short Sale Network, I need to know who you are though. Qualifications: You need to be experienced at completing Short Sales successfully. If you are not experienced and haven't had success the homeowner will lose the home and their credit. This is what we are trying to avoid.

Chocoholics Everywhere: There is hope!

Chocolate - How I broke the habit!

I learned 4 or 5 years ago that I was on my way to diabetes. That was a bit scary, as I lost both of my dad's parents when I was young to diabetes. One of our Christian Radio stations has a lot of health shows and they had a weekly seriers on diabetes. Doctors explained how people get diabetes, ways to prevent it, and ways to reverse it. By the way, this is information you don't usually hear from the medical industry, but there are some organizations that are helping people with diabetes reverse this disease.

This blog isn't about diabetes though, but I wanted to set the stage for how this big time chocoholic broke a lifelong habit. It's not that chocolate is dangerous, like cigarettes, but that I had a really bad habit. You would not believe how much chocolate I ate. It was so bad that when I visited my family for holidays, they would only set out a little bit of chocolate and hide the rest of it so they could have some. It didn't matter what form the chocolate came in, it could be candy, cakes, brownies, it didn't matter, I just couldn't resist, and I would keep eating until it was all gone.

I knew I needed to quit, but really didn't want to, nor did I know how to. I was hooked, and I was enjoying it...yet, I still knew I should quit.
But I really loved chocolate.

Then it happened, I learned a very simple technique for quiting a bad habit like chocolate. While listening to the diabetes program I mentioned earlier, one of the doctors talked about people like me who have habits like chocolate they want to break, and he shared the simple secret to breaking this habit. It is a simple little mind trick, and I quit eating chocolate that day and haven't touched it in years.

Ok...I have tried a couple of "healthy" versions of chocolate, without all the junk in it, with really good ingredients, but I still get that massive desire to eat it all at once, so that really doesn't work. Scratch that idea.

So what is the secret? Here is what the doctor said...

First, he talked about how people decide to quit a bad habit (and he used chocolate as his example, but mentioned that it could be soft drinks, or any number of other things), but they just seem to always fail in the long run. Then he asked this one all important question...

He asked if we wanted to keep on quitting chocolate over and over and over, or did we want to quit just one time? He elaborated on this point by saying that a person decides to quit chocolate, then goes to visit someone, or winds up in line at a grocery store, or it's the holidays, and you are faced with the temptation, and about 50% of the time you wind up giving in to the temptation. The problem is that the decision to quit really wasn't made in the first place. There was no real commitment.

The trick is to make the decision to quit. Make that decision one time, not be faced with making the decision every time you see chocolate...then, when you are faced with the temptation, you simply tell youself that you have already made that decision, you don't have to make it again. Wow...it really is that simple. Every time I see chocolate...(for instance, I love chocolate pie), and when we go to Golden Coral, I really want some, but when I am faced with that temptation, I remind myself that I have already made that decision, and walk away. I don't have to make that decision ever again. My family has been so shocked that this worked. I was too!

Please...take a moment and introduce yourself.

Make your introduction personal as well as business, your choice. Be brief if possible (and I am laughing as I have trouble being brief). This is not a requirement by any means, just a suggestion to help us get to know one another!

A huge part of having a Christian Accountability Group is in getting to know one another. If you have certain issues you are dealing with as a Christian, and want to include that in your introduction, please do so. If you have reasons for wanting accountability, please state them as this helps us understand your struggles in regards to your walk with God, and lets us know how we can help in keeping you accountable.

If you aren't ready for this step yet, that is ok too. Read and respond as you would like to.

If you want to respond to this blog with your intro, that is ok. If you prefer to write your own introductory blog as an introduction to you, please do so. This will certainly gather more responses. You might even consider linking to your "Me-Me" if you have done one already. I will link to mine. If you haven't done a "Me-Me" yet, let me know and I will send you one. This is totally awesome, and everyone who does one really makes a lot of new friends here in the Rain. I met some wonderful people who responded to mine.

From Best to Worst: This Pastor's Experience tells us why we need to depend on God

From the Best to the Worst

We have several Christian Radio Stations in our city, so I have a choice of things to listen to depending on my preferences for the day. One day I heard an AWESOME sermon, and I just have to share the main point with you, as I think it shows how important our dependance on God really is...and should be.

The Pastor shared an experience he had of delivering his best sermon ever,
and the following week delivering his worst sermon ever.
The results were amazing...read on...

Let's start with his best sermon ever...

He said that he spent a great deal of time preparing for this sermon. The topic was inspiring, one that he liked, and his preparation went without a hitch. He delivered the sermon and felt it was the best job he had ever done. Needless to say, he was proud of the work he had done for the Lord.

But just like in the sports world, where a team plays its best game, only to follow that up with their worst game ever, so it happened that his sermon the following week turned out to be what he felt was the worst sermon the he ever delivered.

He mentioned that his prepartion time was constantly interrupted, and he just had trouble focusing and getting into the right frame of mind....you know the story. When we do great, we sometimes fall into a complacent frame of mind. The time came to deliver the sermon. He felt he wasn't ready, and didn't feel at all confident and after the sermon felt it was the worst of his career.

Here is where the story gets interesting...

This Pastor mentioned that over the years he had developed a unique tracking system, one that he felt told him how effective each sermon was over time. I won't go into the details for the sake of keeping this blog a bit shorter, but it was quite interesting how he tracked this process.

As he tracked these two sermons, this is what he found out. The BEST sermon that he had ever delivered turned out to be one of his worst when he looked at the tracking results. The WORST sermon that he had ever delivered turned out to be one of his best.

And he proceeded to explain why this happened...

After the first sermon, he felt he did a good job, an excellent job! He felt confident and walked proud thinking about the good job that "he" had done. But after the second sermon, he felt that he had failed in his job as a Pastor. From the moment he finished the second sermon and all through the week, he prayed about that sermon and he asked that the Lord would move upon those who heard it and would produce the results that God intended.

The first sermon was done under his own power, without prayer. He felt he had done a good job and didn't ask God for help. The second sermon, although delivered under his own power once again, was followed with fervent prayer. The first sermon produced no results. The second sermon however produced lots of fruit. What a great lesson on "why we need to pray!

The lesson to all of this is quite clear. Without God, our best is worthless.

The Christian & Accountability

Whether we think in terms of our business or our professional life, success depends upon many factors One of those factors is accountability. Some of us desire to have accountability in our lives, others don't. Yet, all of us probably need it.

The question is...what do we do when we realize we need it? Will we suddenly be accountable to ourselves and take the necessary action to install accountability into our lives, or will we just hope that the positive changes we hope for will happen on their own. I venture to say that many choose the latter of the two.

I wrote a blog regarding Enoch and his walk with God recently. Many of us would love to say that we walk with God as Enoch did, but we know that we don't. Have you ever wondered if we could walk with God as Enoch did? Which of us are willing to do that which will accomplish this desire? Sure, some of you may take a bit of action after you read this. You probably already know from previous Bible study that the end-time is probably just around the corner. So what will YOU do now?

I know that I need accountability in my life, and I really don't have it right now. I also know that I want it, therefore I have decided to do something about it. The purpose of writing this blog is to reach out to those of you who, deep down inside, know that a certain level of accountability is missing in your life, and like me, you want to change this fact. You want to take action & do something now before it is too late....BEFORE Jesus comes!

The Scriptures tell us that Jesus will say to some, "Away from me ye workers of iniquity, I never knew you." Christianity is all about the relationship, and many of us, myself included, tend to let the little things in life keep us busy. Maybe now is the time to make changes and order our priorities.

Join with me in deciding to put accountability into our lives & join the new Christian Accountability Group Shall We Gather At The River. Some of us may choose to open up our hearts, and follow my lead by discussing these things within the group. Some of you may not be ready to take that step yet, but you are more than welcome to read until you are ready...even participate a bit here and there as you see fit. Everyone is invited...all are welcome!

Examine yourself and ask yourself if as a Christian you might be like me, and desire more accountability in your life. Hey....I find this step a bit scary. I've never done this before...but I really feel that I need to.

We won't limit the group to just talking about accountability. Let's dig into God's Precious Word while we are at it, after all, this is a large part of being accountable as a Christian. There is nothing more important than spending time with God!

Let's lift each other up and encourage one another on a daily basis. Let's keep each other focused on the things that are important...the things of God! Read Phil 4:8

Enoch: The man who took a very, very long walk.

Enoch & God!

There are three verses in the Bible that tell us Enoch walked with God:

Gen 5:22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Ok...that last verse doesn't say he WALKED with God, but knowing what we know about the relatioship between God and Enoch, I think we might be able to say that this is implied.

And you ask...where are going with this Greg? Be patient...

Let's look at the facts. Enoch walked with God. He pleased God, and God translated him.

I heard a Pastor say that God and Enoch went for a long walk. They walked a long, long time. They walked and walked and walked. They walked so long that they eventually wound up closer to God's place than Enoch's house, so God just invited Enoch to go home with Him.

Think about the verses quoted above...think about the story I just shared. How many of us can say that we walk with God? Seriously? How many of us really spend a lot of time with God? Do you spend enough time with God that a personal invite might one day be forthcoming?

God has been letting me know that I have been falling short. How about you? Have you been walking with God...or has this world been keeping you very busy, much as it has a lot of others. Let's spend time encouraging each other daily as we walk with God. Take a break once, twice, three times a day and...

A Decision Based on Ethics
Switching Companies

Nothing is more important to me than ethics, and character.
In light of this, I felt that it was necessary to find another company to align myself with. I was recently informed that there were some ethical problems within the company I represented (by upper management) and decided that changes were in order. I was not the only member of our team to make this decision. As a group, some of us recently made a switch.

We felt that helping homeowners save their homes was something we wanted to continue to do, and the members of upper management, with their many contacts, sought out the best possible companies in the marketplace, and after awhile we settled on a new home, which I believe offers superior service to our previous company as well as many other companies out there.

Here is a quick comparison...

Old Company:

We helped save homes from foreclosure. (Loss Mitigation Services required the homeowner to be 2 months behind before we could help them).
A hefty up-front-fee was required to join the company.
Contract required of new consultants.
The time frame required to help the homeowner...3-4 months and more. Some cases have lingered in excess of 6 months. The vast majority of cases were turned down even though they claimed otherwise..
Company had fixed rate fees equaling about a 1 month mortgage payment. This didn't always offer a competitive advantage to our consultants as our fee could be much higher than those companies with a standard fixed rate fee, depending on the cost of living for certain cities/states.

New Company:

We help save homes from foreclosure.
We can modify the loan BEFORE they fall behind or perform loss mitigation services AFTER they are behind on payments.
No up front fees required of agents/consultants to add our services to your current business platform.
No contract required of new agents/consultants - we only sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Time usually required to help homeowners...2-8 weeks with an average of 30-45 days once paperwork is turned in. (much shorter than 3-4 or more months of previous company).
Our consultants/agents are each allowed to set their own profit margins. This allows us to be competitive when others may have a better price in certain regions of the country. If I choose to cut or completely drop my profit in order to help someone who desperately needs our help, I may choice to do so.
The wholesale prices to consultants vary from company to company...we have some of the lowest in the industry...almost 50% lower than that from a competitor I recently talked with. If you charge just under your competitors, you profit margin will be much greater...or you can save the homeowner a lot of money while still keeping your profit margin in accordance to other companies. Savings to the homeowner could be greater that $500 - $1000! Faced with a choice, who do think they will choose? This offers a great competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Many homeowners are loaded with credit card debt, which may be a huge factor in not being able to make house payments. We deal with debt settlement solutions and are now able to help many homeowners we couldn't help before because their unsecured debt was too high. By lowering their debt payments we can now qualify many homeowners for our services that we were not able to do with the old company. This offers us another great competitive advantage!
For Senior Citizens (62+) who have adequate equity, yet live on a fixed income and now are facing foreclosure, we are able to stop foreclosures using Reverse Mortgages.

King David: His Great Compromise

King David - A Man After God's Own Heart!

The subject: Compromise

I have a book about compromise which I bought because of a sermon I heard on the radio on my way home one night. The Pastor talked about how so often we are willing to accept small tiny compromises and find a way to justify these little indescreptancies in our lives.

He talked about how the person who commits the larger sins, and he used adultery as one of his examples. His point was that a man doesn't just one day suddenly commit adultery (or whatever other topic you want to insert here), but his failure instead starts through a series of small compromises, which get a little bigger each time until one day he commits the big compromise.

I was recently listening to a a radio program where the Pastor answers Bible questions from callers, and the topic was the little lies that Kind David told while he was running from King Saul...and although I have a great deal of respect for the Pastor, he sort of justified King David's lies (long story which I won't go into here).

As I sat and pondered his answer, not feeling especially comfortable with it, the book on compromise came back into the forefront of my memory, and I realized that this series of lies that Kind David told were his series of compromise that led to his eventual adultery and murder.

Carefully consider if you may have small compromises in your life. These are a yeast in our Christian walk, and will grow until they lead us to a greater compromise, and we find that we have fallen on our face. Let us search ourselves and seek out the small things which may need addressing. Kind David was a man after God's own heart. If he can fall, surely we can too. We can avoid these things if our mind is but focused on the things of God.

One of my motto's in life has always been:

A verse that goes with this...

My absolute favorite verses in the Bible come from Matt 5 Luke 6..."Love Your Enemies!" For me, this is the gospel message. It's easy to love those who love you, but can you love those who make it hard/impossible to love them? I make an effort to love everyone I come in contact with.

As we know, not even Jesus could reach everyone. Many people rejected Him. I take a similar approach...I reach out to everyone, but those who make it clear they want nothing to do with me (as a Christian), I won't force myself on them. I'll make my effort, and if the reject me, I'll keep looking for those who ARE searching for answers. I love to share the Bible with others...providing they have an interest!

I could pick a whole lot of verses, but I have chosen those that I feel most strongly help to describe who I am. I look forward to reading the blogs that you write!

SALT: An Adventure In Thirst

Salt of the Earth
I heard a great sermon about "salt" recently and a point was made in this sermon that I hadn't heard before. While we all know that Salt is used to flavor things, the Bible also refers to salt symbolically, referring to God's people as the Salt of the Earth...and follows that by referring to us as the light of the world.

Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

But then came the point in the sermon that I feel really hits to the heart of the matter...You see, Salt also creates THIRST. Think about this carefully if you will. As a Christian, ye are the salt of the earth. We are to flavor the world with the love of Christ...but in doing so, we should create a desire, a thirst that others come to want because they saw in us something that they don't have, something that they realize they really want. Being the salt of the earth, we are to create a desire/thirst for the things of God.

Step back for a moment and examine your life. Wherever you go, whatever you do, do you keep in mind that you are an Ambassador of Christ, that your life is on display for all to see, and that others will come to want, or maybe to reject the things of God because of how you as a Christian conduct yourself. As Salt, do you make others thirsty?

I read a quote from Ghandi once where he said
"If it weren't for Christians, I might become one."
(paraphrased according to memory)

Are you the salt of the earth? Or are you without flavor? Does your light shine as a light on a hill, or do you hide your light so that others can't see it? You see....there is no such thing as a "secret agent" for Christ. You are either with Him, or against Him. Do you have flavor? Does your light shine? Do you create a thirst for the things of God?

Only you can answer these questions about yourself. Hmmm...wait...that may not be exactly true. Although I cannot judge you as to what is in your heart, every person who comes into contact with you will know whether or not you create a thirst for the things of God. Think about that long and hard. How do others see you? This is as good a place as any to talk about these things. As Christians, we are here to help each other, to encourage each other, and to love each other.

I am a medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology at the poison control center. Today, this woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants. I quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital. She calmed down and at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants.
I told her that she better bring her daughter in to the emergency room right away.

Idiot Number Two of 2008
Early this year, some Boeing employees on the airfield decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and home. Shortly after they took it for a float on the river, they noticed a Coast Guard helicopter coming toward them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locate! r beacon that activated when the raft was inflated. They are no longer employed at Boeing.

A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the Branch and wrote this, 'Put all your muny in this bag.' While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the teller's window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to the Wells Fargo Bank. After waiting a few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargo teller. She read it and, surmising from his spelling errors that he wasn't the brightest light in the harbor, told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on a Bank of America deposit slip and that he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargo deposit slip or go back to Bank of America.
Looking somewhat defeated, the man said, 'OK' and left.He was arrested a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America.

Don't bother with this guy's sign. He probably couldn't read it anyway.

A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that; measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40.
several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture, this time of handcuffs. He immediately mailed in his $40.
Wise guy........

A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all of the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of Scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf. He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but the cashier refused and said, 'Because I don't believe you are over 21.' The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because she didn't believe him. At this point, the robber took his driver's license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk.
The clerk looked it over and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and she put the Scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot. The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that he got off the license. They arrested the robber two hours later.

This guy definitely needs a sign.

A pair of   Michigan robbers entered a record shop nervously waving revolvers.
The first one shouted, 'Nobody move!' When his partner moved, the startled first bandit shot him.

This guy doesn't even deserve a sign.

Arkansas : Seems this guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run.
So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back knocking him unconscious. It seems the liquor store window was made of Plexi-Glass.The whole event was caught on videotape.

Yep, here's your sign.

I live in a semi-rural area. (   Weyauwega ,   Wisconsin ) We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road.
The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! - I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.'
STAY ALERT! They walk among us... and they REPRODUCE...and they VOTE!!!

DRIVING - It Could Kill You ~ I bet you didn't know this! ~

Driving - it could kill you!

I hope that got your attention. Oh, but you already know that bit of information. But do you practice that bit of information when driving? I know from experience that many of you don't. Here are two examples for you to read. Realize that I was driving last night. I took my daughter to school this morning, and then to the doctor this evening. Two out of three trips...and I witness people not paying attention while driving...and this is not unusual.

Example #1:

I'm on my way home, and there is a funeral home not too far from where I live. The highway has two lanes going in each direction, and a center turning lane. As I'm approaching the funeral home, I see someone pulling out, going across the first two lanes, and I'm thinking they will go into the center lane and merge into the empty lane next to me on my left. WRONG. They just slowly came across all 5 lanes and dropped themselves right in front of me. Whoa boy...slam the brakes, hit the horn, flash the bright lights to let them know I am there, and try to avoid them by jumping over into that empty lane to my left...all at the same time. And they acted like none of that every happened as I drove past them.

EXCUSE MEeeeeeeeeee... You just came from a fueneral home, and now you try to commit suicide? Hey, I want to live...I have a wife, two kids, two grandkids, and this website to keep running. And please don't use that excuse, "oh, I am grieving and not paying attention to my driving." Then you shouldn't be driving...that is why there are taxi's in this world. Use one next time...and no, I am not being very nice about this, I am more than tired of people not paying attention to the fact that they aren't the only people on the road.

Example #2:

My wife and I had to meet at the doctors office for an appointment for our daughter. This of course meant that we were driving two cars, and as we left for home after the appointment, I naturally followed her.

We pulled up to a red light. We can't go straight at this light, it is a T intersection, meaning we could only go left or we could only go right. We were in the left turning lane, and in the left of two lanes turning left.

The light turns green and we all start proceeding into the intersection. I'm sure many of you have noticed that these types of intersections have little dotted lines to show the lane separations for turning so that people don't run into each other. Yet, some of you don't pay attention to those lines, as was the case today.

My wife was in front of me, and I noticed her hitting her brakes and honking her horn. The car to her right somehow thought no one else was on the road today, and just came on over into her lane. Now, this is rush hour, there are cars in front of this person, and this person could not have missed the fact that two lanes are turning left, yet he (or she...who knows) just came on over into my wife's lane. I"m sure that was my wife's voice I heard, it had to be.

Just moments later my phone rings...

"did you see that idiot coming into my lane?"

Yes dear, it was kind of hard to miss. I guess he (or she) just had a hankering to be featured on MrRoadRage.com tonight.

These are the kind of things that I see happen all the time. People are driving, and forgetting that they were given a brain by which they can make intelligent decisions...yet they do this kind of stuff that causes accidents, and sometimes takes the life of another.

In some cases, they lose their own loved ones. Then they feel regret for not paying attention while driving. Sorry, it is too late at that point. If you are going to drive, then think.

Don't confuse that word "think" with the word "drink."
Don't drink and drive is a very good slogan.
Don't think and drive is not.
