Approximately one Thursday a month I play poker with a group of guys I have known for 15 months to 15 years.  The hosting rotates, and the host serves buffet and drinks.  Some guys are better cooks, some guys have better wine cellars, and it always adds up to a great evening, where it's rare to win or lose more than 20 Semolians.

It is our privilege, on the first Sunday of every October, to lead Team Guys and Dolls on the MSNYC bike tour, fighting for the cure for Multiple Sclerosis.  We have ridden since the girls were on a tandem trail-a-bike behind mommy and daddy''s tandem, and the tour started in front of the twin towers of the WTC.  Here we are last year, first time on a quad, near passing the GW Bridge.  Biking around Manhattan with 5,000 others and no cars, up the FDR, around the Harlem River Drive and back down the West Side Highway  is a thrill you … (1 comments)

Did I overhear it at a party, or was it dialogue from a play?  "When the it's the right guy calling, it's always an acceptable time to call."  This is a great analog for the true answer to the oft posed question "is it a good time to put our house on the market?"  If your house is up to speed in staging and updating, and priced lean and mean, it is always good timing.  Yes there are higher volume months and they happen to coincide with the surge of inventory.  So the supply and demand ratio is somewhat constant throughout the year.

Inventory Up in Westfield NJ - 06/14/11 06:59 PM
The pace of sales is slightly up, in Westfield NJ, with contracts signed year to date at 158, up 6% over last year's 149.  But the supply at the end of the school year is at 192, up 9.7% from last year's 175.  (In 2006, the year the glut preceded the slump in values, the inventory peaked at 205.)
What are the prospects for these 192 homeowners at this point in the market cycle?  We sense a slight deflation in buyer energy and a slight souring of the psychology, courtesy of media and the swooning stock market, which has huge influence … (0 comments)
