Glengarry Glen Ross - The Best Realtor Movie of all time? - 12/30/08 11:22 PM
I was reading a thought provoking Blog post by DJ Swanepoel  called The Top Ten Real Estate Movies of All Time and What We Can Learn From Them.  In his post he names his top ten Real Estate movies of all time and encourages others to comment and add theirs.

It became quite clear early on in the comments that the most memorable Real Estate Movie, among Realtors, is Glengarry Glen Ross but is it the best Real Estate movie or is is the best Real Estate Agent movie?
Glengarry Glen Ross is a 1982 play written by David Mamet. The play … (36 comments)

Maple Ridge Christmas 2008 - The Whitest Christmas in Memory - 12/26/08 01:39 PM

"Good King Wenceslas looked out. On the feast of Stephen, when the snow lay round about. Deep and crisp and even"
- Good King Wenceslas  Carol

All of these pictures were taken on Christmas Day 2008 in the Albion Real Estate neighborhood of Maple Ridge.

I can not remember, though Im told we had this type of Christmas in the late 60's, a whiter Chrsitmas then this in Maple Ridge.  It is now Boxing Day and the snow is once again here and falling heavily.
Now it is time to get together all the outdoor gear … (4 comments)

I'm not sure She liked the present... - 12/25/08 07:28 PM

...I'm certain!
Future Hannah Montanna?  Probably not but female guitar players are always in demand!
Now for a really good pair of headphones and or a sound proof practise room for her.  This was her reward for 2 years of classical guitar and knuckling down and doing well.

Maple Ridge to have White Christmas - 12/19/08 01:30 PM

According to Environment Canada, "Vancouver typically has a 13% chance of a White Christmas. The most recent White Christmas occurred in 2007, with rain changing to snow and then back to rain in the lower elevations and coastal areas including Downtown and Richmond during the afternoon and the majority of Vancouver and its eastern municipalities receiving continuous snow since noon. The airport recorded 1.0 cm of snow. The previous White Christmas occurred in 1998 when 20 cm of snow was on the ground on Christmas Day following 31 cm of snow and 20 mm of rain."

Iceflows Jam Fraser River at Maple Ridge, BC - 12/17/08 07:08 PM
Greenland? North Sea? Berring Straights?
Nope this is the Fraser River from the Haney Wharf, across the train tracks from the Billy Miner Pub in Maple Ridge BC,  looking over to Derby Reach in Langley.
Operations of the Albion Ferry have been curtailed indefintely due to these large chunks of ice which could conceiveably knock the propellers right off the drive shafts of the Albion Ferries or worse.

The big dump (for Maple Ridge) of snow which is accompaning low temperatures and high winds is making for treacherous conditions on all the roads. Can the ice bridge to Langley be far away? Will … (3 comments)

T-Bone or Bonz: What's on your plate this next year? - 12/16/08 11:21 AM
Pay attention Boys!

Via Cecily Parks (Windermere Pacific West Properties):
A holiday survival guide for men to keep them out of the doghouse and in the big house for another year.
Men, I've noticed, are by nature challenged when it comes to gift giving. My husband breaks out in a cold sweat three times a year...my birthday, our anniversary and Christmas. Now, he's a big bear of a guy so it's pretty tough to make that happen but on those three little days a year he has a small private break down and usually ends up begging me to take pity … (4 comments)

90210, Charmed  star Shannen Doherty is starring in a made for TV movie being filmed up on Thornhill Heights this week in the Albion Real Estate neighbourhood of Maple Ridge.  I looked her up on IMDB.com to review her vast acting history and I read that she actually played in 18 episodes of Little House on the Prarie between 1982-1983 as Jenny Wilder! Who knew?

This current shoot in Albion will only be there for 3 days and is further to the shoot that took place down at Albion Pizzeria.

Via Christopher and Stephanie Somers - Realtors - Philadelphia Real Estate (RE/MAX Affiliates):
Should I list now or wait until spring ?
I received a call yesterday from a consumer who said "Chris, I know it is not a great time to sell.  Should I put my properties up now or wait until spring ? " .  What is interesting is that I have found myself answering this question frequently and I have been seeing the same question on Trulia Voices and Zillow discussions.  So, I figured it made sense to … (2 comments)

The Leafs Win the Stanley Cup!!! - 12/04/08 01:41 PM
Toronto Maple Leafs Win Stanley Cup!!!
Canada was stunned Monday when it was announced that The Stanley Cup will be awarded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, possibly as early as December 6th.The cup will be stripped from from 2008 playoff champions the Detroit Red Wings and be awarded to the Leafs, who didn't even make the playoffs. How is this possible, Canadians ask?Well, the Leafs have formed a coalition with eastern conference semifinalists the Montreal Canadians, and conference quarter finalists the Ottawa Senators, now outnumbering the Red Wings.According to current Leaf coach Ron Wilson "the Red Wings have lost the confidence … (7 comments)

They Made a Movie in our House! - 12/04/08 01:21 PM
I always wondered what it would be like to have my home prominently featured in a movie production, one of those things I used to think about while driving around the area and seeing all of the television and motion picture productions that have taken place in our bustling little entertainment hotspot of Metro Vancouver, British Columbia.  Vancouver is where such shows as X-Files, Juno, X-Men, Battlestar Galactica, The Day the Earth Stood Still, etc., etc., 10,000 times over...have been filmed.

One day this last August a couple of fellows showed up at our door, where we live in the Albion … (16 comments)

Business Bailouts: A Modern Parable - 12/03/08 11:30 AM
A Japanese company (Toyota) and an American company (Ford Motors) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.
On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile. The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 7 people steering and 2 people rowing.Feeling a deeper study … (5 comments)

Coup d'etat in Canada - 12/02/08 12:16 PM
It is trully a sad time when a political party with no leader, a 4th place Party and a Separatist Party can conspire to rest power away from the Democraticly elected government of Canada after only a few short weeks.
The entire conspiracy was contrived in advance before they even knew what excuse they were going to use to justify it.

Jackson Farm to be Swapped for City Land in Silver Valley? - 12/01/08 09:03 AM
A Maple Ridge Council insider has suggested to me that the District of Maple Ridge may offer up development land in Silver Valley in exchange for the Jackson Farm property in Albion.
The owners of the Jackson property have offered up the property, which has a steep slope and a swamp upon it, rendering half of it useless, in exchange for the rights to develop another piece of property on 248th st, which is outside the Urban Reserve on Thornhill, to 6000 sq ft lots.  The 248th st property which is currently zoned 5 acres minimum lot size and would not … (0 comments)
