internet marketing: Internet Marketing Tip: Books worth reading - 09/29/09 01:11 AM
Just a couple of books I've come across that I recommend reading, and then IMPLEMENTING the ideas they are presenting:
"Landing Page Optimization" by Tim Ash - Goes through the ins and outs of web page conversation.  Lots of great examples from successful and unsuccessful websites including screen shots of what to do and what not to do.  Discuss ROI for your landing pages as well. Excellent read and a very clear "how-to" guide.
Here's a video with Tim Ash explaining some of his concepts.
"Always Be Testing" by Brian Eisenberg - Introduces you to Google's Website Optimizer (it's free) … (11 comments)

internet marketing: After REBarcamp-Seattle... - 09/10/09 12:41 AM
Just a couple of quick follow-ups to this week's REBarcamp-Seattle.  Thank you to Zillow for putting together the event.  With the number of attendees well over 300, there was lots of enthusiasm and sharing to go around.
If you missed it, I hosted two sessions:
"How to REALLY Grab 'em" - We discussed specific strategies for internet and web marketing, reviewing agent and broker websites from across the country that have done a particularly nice job of successfully marketing on the web.  "Beat the Headlines. Be the Local Market Expert." - This session was all about how to reach your buyers … (7 comments)

internet marketing: What does Google see on YOUR website? Maybe nothing. - 06/20/09 03:51 AM
An important component of your Internet marketing strategy is "search engine optimization" (a.k.a. "SEO").  This is a fancy term that just means - "What do search engines like Google see when they look at your website."
Among the factors that Google uses to rank you website and it's webpages are keyword terms and how those search terms are structured.  If you want to "see" what Google sees when they visit a page on your website, check out this free online tool:

This is one of the simplest tools that you'll find to help you with your website and webpage development.  … (8 comments)

internet marketing: Keeping the Momentum & Spirit of REBarcamps (especially if you didn't attend!) - 06/10/09 10:17 AM
I've been fortunate enough to attend a number of the REBarcamps over the past year - (San Francisco, New York City, Houston, Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, Salt Lake City).  At EVERY event, attendees and organizers ask a fundamental question -
How do we keep the momentum that we've built at the REBarcamp? - exchanging ideas, learning new technologies, staying motivated.  Well, Richardo Bueno, organizer of the REBarcamp-Los Angeles has figured it out:

Hey Gang,
I'm happy to say that we're having a Realtor/Blogger Meetup & Tweetup this Thursday at Aroma Coffee & Tea from 11:00am - 1:00pm. if you're … (15 comments)

internet marketing: What to tell your clients when you're at REBarcamp - 06/02/09 02:47 AM
Another week means another REBarcamp! On Friday, it's the Salt Lake City version of this wonderful event. If you're new to the REBarcamp events, learn more about it here.  Thank you to Rob Aubrey and eveyone else that's been organizing.
Yes, I know what you're thinking - "But it's on a Friday, and I have soooooo much to do to prepare for the weekend.  Buyers ready to take a second look at the house their considering, meetings with sellers, getting ready for the final Spring-time push as schools start to close and parents are preparing to move this Summer."
And that's … (16 comments)

internet marketing: Personal Branding: 100 Bands in 100 Days - 02/22/09 05:56 AM
I know Nick from college.  He's a guy that moved to NYC in 2002 with no job and no prospects after working as an admin at an Minnesota-based advertising powerhouse.  Found an apartment in Brooklyn before it was cool to live in Brooklyn.  Everyone figured he'd last about 6-8 months.
Then worked himself into Viacom/MTV, and now writes copy for ESPN ads.  You know those "This is SportsCenter" ads - he's written some of those and several others.
His intention isn't so much to create a buzz about himself (he's not a self-serving guy - this I know), but finding something … (3 comments)

internet marketing: Internet Lead Generation: Principles & Tools - 12/18/08 03:07 AM
Here's the basic scoop of developing leads from your website and blog, with some screen shots down below to show you some excellent services that are free (or very inexpensive)...
1. Be found - This is where blogging and a regular updates to your site helps potential prospects and clients find you on the web.  There's constand chatter and a billion dollar industry around "search engine optimization" and "SEO."  At it's core, that just means - Can you be found?
You need not pay for "search engine optimization" if the content on your website matches with what local buyers/sellers are looking … (3 comments)

internet marketing: Twitter & Personal Branding (from Mashable.com) - 12/15/08 02:21 AM
Spending time Twittering this morning, I came across a blog post from @mashable.  Mashable (self-proclaimed - "All That's New On the Web") takes a very broad-brush approach to reporting exactly that - all that's new on the web.
That said, some of the general articles they publish have strong implications and advice for those of us in the real estate business.  Check out this article - "Why brands ABSOLUTELY DO Belong on Twitter."  The article focuses on larger brands like Starbucks and Coca-Cola, but there are certainly some applications for individual agents and brokers when it comes to the value of … (4 comments)

internet marketing: More on Twollow... - 11/20/08 12:14 AM
The other day, I provided a quick intro to Twollow, a recently launched Twitter application that enables you to automatically follow other "tweeters" on Twitter.
Some early observations:
Be VERY specific about the key words that you enter.  For example, if you select a general term like "real estate" in Twollow, you're going to end up following lots and lots of tweeters very quickly. It's better to think about specific terms such as "South Kackalacky Real Estate" or so that the new follows added to your Twitter match with your local sales territory. Think about how people write in "Twitter-speak."  Twitter … (3 comments)

internet marketing: Web Analytics, Google Analytics, Bay Area Workshop - 11/19/08 11:52 PM
Just some quick hits for anyone looking to take a more measured approach to their internet marketing strategy, which you should be if you're doing any significant marketing via the web with a website, regularly updated blog, or email marketing campaigns.
Keep in mind that Internet marketing isn't for anyone.  There are lots of agents out there that live very comfortably via referrals, and their website is just a marketing brochure or a place for their current clients to search homes for sale.  They can do just fine.
But, if you are taking an active approach to Internet marketing as a … (2 comments)
