A couple years ago (ok, maybe several years ago) I learned the Scouts oath.  I think that was what it was called.  I didn't make it far in Boy Scouts, but I did learn the following and recite it almost daily.

A Scout is:

  • Trustworthy
  • Loyal
  • Helpful
  • Friendly
  • Courteous
  • Kind
  • Obedient
  • Cheerful
  • Thrifty
  • Brave
  • Clean and
  • Reverent

Ahhh, now if I could remember where I put my car keys...

It looks like a few more homes went under contract this week.   A sign of better weather coupled with an improved economy?  Only a few more days to take advantage of the $8000 buyer credit, don't wait too long!

I just had a scam happen to me on Craigslist.  One of my listings was posted as a rental.  The contact person informed potential renters that the sellers were in Africa, and would rent it for only $700 (a house priced at $174,900).

While it took 3 days for Craigslist to finally take it off their site, I received about 60 calls from people wanting to take me up on the offer of inexpensive housing.  They drove by and saw my real estate sign and called me directly.  I have no idea how many more just went straight to the poster.  Or sent them money as a deposit (time will tell).

What I learned was that Craigslist does get a ton of traffic from our area (I have just started using it), and also that that many people are looking for a rental.  Our market is getting very tight for rental housing, and I have a feeling it is going to get worse.

It looks to me that if an investor wanted to cash in, now is the time to buy rental housing.  What's it like in your market?

P.S. - The house is not for rent!

Sales continue to increase, however I am unsure if they are due to the Cash Home Buying incentive or just the spring desire to purchase.  We'll know more in the coming weeks.  Look at the sales under $200,000, it's almost a sellers market in those price ranges.

Snow is in the forecast again (this is getting old), so I decided to do some spring cleaning.  As I go through my office drawers, I am reminded of how much things have changed in the past few years.

I need a new Palm Pilot - does Sears still sell them?

I found a roll of film- not sure what I should do with it...

I have tons of VHS training tapes - the info hasn't changed, just the messenger...

I have a 3-hole punch - lots of dust on it.

The spare battery for my overhead projector is still in the box - I wonder if I can get a refund...

What a huge stack of maps - I can't believe no one wants them!

Ah, my Real Estate Blue Book! - maybe I should read it...

Well, that's all for the first drawer.  I may wait a while before I open another one.

I will be working for a few months in Ft Wayne, IN and would like to know if there are any runners lurking about this site.  I've been trying to find some trails or running paths, but haven't had much luck so far.  Any suggestions appreciated!

While waiting for the rest of the family to get ready for church this morning, I thought I would see if I can post a blog from my Blackberry. I'm sitting in a very small North Dakota town (population less than 20) to go to a hundred year old church. The temperature is mid 40's, and the sun is shining. My Blackberry has limited service here, but let's see if this works. Have a great day everyone.

There are bound to be lots of people traveling this weekend, and if you haven't had a chance to visit http://www.safetravelusa.com/ you may want to have a look.  I use it almost every time I head out the door!  Have a great weekend everyone!

The real estate market in the Black Hills is up about 10% over the past couple weeks.  I'm sure part of that is due to the spring weather we have been experiencing.  If you have any questions on analysing the following information, give me a call!

I listed this home a couple weeks ago, and finally got around to making a YouTube video.  I used the Flip video camera, and the FlipShare program to stitch the different films together.  While it turned out ok, I need to find a better camera to use.  The FlipShare program is so easy to use though.  Take a look if you have the time, the video is about 5 minutes.
