ActiveRain - Journey to Reaching a Milestone on ActiveRain
It was September 2006, when I first heard about a new site by the name of ActiveRain.  At the time, I had just changed brokerages.  I was looking for new ways to differentiate myself from everyone else so I checked out this new site.  I liked what I saw and joined right away (although it took me a few weeks before posting my first post but that's another story).
Seven years later, here I am just having crossed the 1 Million Point milestone!  I'm not sure how many ActiveRainers have crossed this mark before … (73 comments)

activerain: Discovering New Places... with ActiveRain! - 01/07/13 07:54 AM
Discovering New Places... with ActiveRain! You don't need a car, you don't need a plane nor a train,
all you need for travel around the USA (and Canada) is ActiveRain!
When I was a child I loved to pull out an world atlas and look at maps from around the world.  Not that much different, ActiveRain is the place to go to for all sort of information, news, and fun.  Well, lately, I've been paying more attention to where people are from.  Usually when I am reading someone's post or someone comments on one of my posts I also look at their location, city and state.
This … (18 comments)

activerain: I've got Mail .... From Anna Banana! - 12/21/12 11:59 PM
When I stopped in at the office yesterday to pick up my mail, I found a big envelope sticking out from the usual real estate magazines and bills.  All hand decorated with Christmas trees and even a sun, it brought a smile to my face and I was curious about the sender.
Imagine my surprise when I read the return address and it was fellow ActiveRainer Anna "Banana"!  Inside I found a beautiful 2013 calendar of great Arizona scenery and nature scenes and a nice handwritten note by Anna.  Thank you, Anna!
If you don't know Anna Banana Kruchten, please stop by … (22 comments)

activerain: Top Five Reasons You Know the Public is Reading Your Blog - 09/22/12 01:48 AM
Top Five Reasons You Know the Public is Reading Your Blog Checking the statistics for your blog posts under "Traffic" is a great help in figuring out how many views your ActiveRain posts are getting.  But there are other ways that are often a lot more fun to find out that people are not only reading your blog but especially your Localism posts.  Here are my top five reasons I know the public is reading my blog:
1.  Can I make a reservation?
I'm putting the the numbers for restaurants that I write about in my blog posts, but I still get plenty … (47 comments)

activerain: What is REBarCamp Orlando and Why should You Go? - 08/07/12 05:08 AM
What is REBarCamp Orlando and Why should You Go?
REBar Camp is coming to Orlando this August 8th, 2012.  I know a few of our Florida ActiveRain members will be there!
If you have never attended a REBarCamp, you will be in for a big treat!  REBarCamp is fast and furious, informative, educational, and most of all fun, fun, fun!  Don't be surprised to see some familiar faces in the crowd!  When I attended last year, I met Katerina Gasset, Jeremy Blanton, Mike Mueller, Cyndee Haydon, Petra Norris, just to name a few!

How to describe REBarCamp?  Well, it definitely is … (15 comments)

activerain: West Central Florida ActiveRainers enjoyed Meetup at Tarpon Springs Today! - 04/17/12 09:47 AM
West Central Florida ActiveRainers enjoyed Meetup at Tarpon Springs Today!
Today was Meetup day for ActiveRainers in West Central Florida!  ActiveRain bloggers from Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, and even as far as Sarasota County came together to meet with their AR friends!
The setting at Billy's Tarpon Turtle Restaurant  overlooking beautiful Tarpon Lake couldn't have been better!
The food was good and plentiful... the company was the best... and a great time was had by all!
Eleven of us had plenty of things to talk about including ActiveRain, blogging, and of course, real estate.  Oh, and not all of us were … (21 comments)

activerain: Groups - Groups - more Groups - 02/23/09 10:20 PM
As of this writing, there are 5317  groups on Activerain ranging from the funny and entertaining to the technical and specialized.  All of them contain interesting facts and educational materials.  I admit, I'm overwhelmed.
Even if trying to search within the subcategories, sometimes it's difficult to find a group or even just to figure out if a group by a certain topic already exists. I like to explore new groups but don't know half the time where to start. I tried the group search functions and got lost.
So I started a new approach to finding new groups by looking at those that others have joined.  Whenever I look or … (51 comments)

activerain: Fall Harvest of Art - Hernando County, FL - 11/10/08 12:01 PM
Next weekend, November 15th and 16th, the Spring Hill Art League proudly presents the 35th Annual Fall Harvest of Art.  This year, this fine show will take place at a new location on the grounds by the Lake House at Kenlake Avenue in Spring Hill.
This beautiful tree-shaded park is a great place to display and admire the art work from artists and artisans who each year travel from near and far to participate in this juried show.  Media include oils, acrylics, watercolors, mixed media, photography, drawings, pastels, sculptures, handcrafted work in wood, pottery, jewelry, textiles and metal. Guidelines for admission of artists to … (5 comments)

activerain: Attending the NAR Convention! - 11/09/08 11:27 AM

I just got home from attending just one but very productive day of the National Association of Realtors' Convention that took place in Orlando this year.  Obviously, living just two hours driving time away, there are no excuses for not being able to attend if it's right at your door step.

I spent almost all day        yesterday at the Expo and of course, picked up so much materials.. it's unbelievable and the best of it is it's all good stuff!  But besides speaking to different vendors about new technologies, marketing ideas, and things they  can … (6 comments)

activerain: When on a roll... keep rolling! - 11/06/08 07:41 AM
First off, I'm only writing this post because I was inspired by another post by Dave Park "Does she ever fake it! discussing value, passion, and expediency, in which I saw a little bit of what happened to me in the last couple of days.
Yesterday, my buyers finally closed on short sale/cash deal that was in the making for over four months. And that was just to get the bank approval.  In my opinion they are saints for hanging on that long and having to overcome obstacle after obstacle imposed by sellers' lenders.  I could have not faulted them to walk away at any point … (17 comments)
