The real estate industry has certain business practices that are considered “normal” one such business practice is the brokerage fee. Under federal and state law, it is illegal for brokers, or their agents, to discuss with other brokers and agents their brokerage fees This could be construed as price fixing. When home sellers need to sell, and turn to a real estate professional, why do they hear the same argument, from each real estate agent, justifying 6% listings? I still think it is odd that we are in a strong buyers market, were the sellers are just giving away closing cost assistance, and the builders are including granite counter tops, tiled floors, sprinkler systems and in some cases 10 to 20,000 dollars contributions towards closing costs and down payments. So are the buyers really not buying? Based on the reports I ran this morning for the areas that I work ( Virginia Beach and Chesapeake ) home purchases dropped, significantly for the month of October compared to the same time frame a year ago.
