With the signing of the Extended Home Buyer Tax Credit existing homeowners may now qualify for a $6500 Tax Credit. This new legislation is time sensitive and unfortunately does not apply to all existing homeowners. Here are the important points to know. Who qualifies - current home owners purchasing a home between November 7, 2009 and April 30, 2010, who have used the home being sold or vacated as a principal residence for five consecutive years within the last eight qualify. As most of you have heard by now, last Friday President Obama signed The Worker, Homeownership and Business Asssistance Act of 2009 (Tax Act). We recently blogged in support of legislation to extend and expand the homebuyer's tax credit. Thankfully, both branches of Congress and The President recognized the importance of assisting the housing industry and passed the Tax Act. Many prospective homebuyers looking to purchase a home in metro Atlanta believe that there are no longer any down payment asssistance programs available to them. Or, they've been told that the guidelines are so restrictive as to make it impossible to qualify for the available funds. Both asssumptions are wrong. Thru the GA Department of Consumer Affairs, $14,000 is available to any homebuyer looking to purchase a bank foreclosure in GA. homebuyers tax credit: Urge Congress to extend and expand the homebuyers' tax credit now! - 10/26/09 10:43 AM
If you're a REALTOR® reading this post, you've seen the positive effects of the homebuyers' tax credit on the housing market, which unfortunately is due to expire December 1. You have also likely noticed a recent drop off in showings with the expiration date of the credit looming. Hopefully, the House of Representatives and Senate will act soon to extend and expand the credit; otherwise, the chill of winter will likely be felt throughout the housing market.
