woodstock ga parks: Trails Open and More Coming - Greenprints Alliance Update - 07/16/10 05:28 AM
Work continues on the bike trail for Woodstock, GA. with Greenprints Alliance and SORBA Woodstock adding to more trails through volunteers' efforts.  The Taylor Randahl Memorial trail now has 2.6 miles of trails.  This Saturday, July 17th,  there will be another trail building party starting at 8am until  Noon. 
The Taylor Randahl Memorial trails are at the Olde Rope Mill Park off Ridgewalk Parkway just North of downtown Woodstock.  When completed there will be 6.5 miles of riding trails. 
Additionally, the design process has started for 7+ miles of multi-use trails in and around Woodstock, GA.  This is being done by the City of Woodstock and Cherokee … (0 comments)

woodstock ga parks: City Park Expansion Underway Woodstock GA - 06/11/10 03:42 AM
Work has begun on the City Park expansion in downtown Woodstock GA. The Park is expanding to the East along Arnold Mill Road on the former site of the Woodstock Police Department and City Hall.  The buildings on the site were demolished to the foundations a couple of weeks ago.  We're told the bricks from the buildings were saved to be recycled as brick pavers in the expansion.  To our amusement, there are still a couple of jail cells on the site (see photo)- don't really think they are intended to stay as part of the expanded though who knows?  Perhaps … (0 comments)

The Woodstock GA chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) is planning a work party Saturday from 9am to 1pm.  According to The Cherokee Tribune, the work party is to clear the proposed trails for machine work at the Taylor Randahl Memorial bike trails at Olde Rope Mill Park.  Taylor Randahl was a local teenager killed in 2000 in a tragic accident while biking.  The 1.3 mile loop is the first part of a 5.8 mile south loop- the US Corps of Engineers is now reviewing plans for an additional three loop- if approved there will be 15-20 miles of … (0 comments)

woodstock ga parks: Streetfest in Woodstock GA a success for Greenprints Alliance - 03/23/10 08:26 AM
Got a chance to drop by the Streetfest benefit for the Greensprints Alliance in downtown Woodstock GA - what a gorgeous day for an outdoor event with music and arts and crafts!  As advertised, East Main Street was closed off to provide space for the street vendors and a stage was set up for ongoing band perfermances.  There was also a rock wall for kids near Canyon Burgers.  The view from the rooftop deck at Pure taqueria was spectacular and the green beer was flowing in a post- St Patty's Day tribute.

At a time when other metro Atlanta counties have stopped purchasing land for parks due to the economy, Cherokee County is taking advantage of lower land prices.  According to a recent article in the AJC, the county will continue to purchase land as approved by voters in 2008 in a $90 million bond referendum.  Cherokee County has adopted a Capital Improvement Plan for 2010-2014 totaling over $93 million.  All cities and areas of the county, including Woodstock, Canton and Holly Springs, will benefit from the plan and bond.  To date, the county has issued $45 million in bonds and purchased 519 … (4 comments)
