The 60th Annual Dogwood Festival is in full swing at Lake of the Ozarks!   The festivities will continue until Sunday the 18th.  There is so much to do and see during these days it's a little hard to describe all that is taking place.  The Camdenton Chamber of Commerce has a Map online to help visitors find their way around the area.
Talent is flowing everywhere at this year's Festival.  The Lake of the Ozarks Woodworkers Guild is displaying their work over at the Camden County Museum.  The display will be there throughout the festival.  There are also Fine Art … (0 comments)

missouri: Fun Abounds at Lake of the Ozarks 60th Annual Dogwood Festival! - 04/13/10 07:36 AM

Folks are bustling about getting ready for the 60th Annual Dogwood Festival.   Theme for the event is "Gem of the Ozarks Diamond Jubilee".  The festivities will be taking place April 15-18 in Camdenton, Missouri.  The Flowering Dogwood is Missouri's official State Tree.  The Dogwood tree is fairly small and produces the beautiful flowers in early Spring.  Dyes and inks have been made from Flowering Dogwoods.  The wood of the tree is hard and is used to make things like tool handles, golf clubs and butcher blocks.
This year's Festival is filled with all sorts of activities that will be fun … (0 comments)

missouri: Selling A Home At Lake of the Ozarks? - 04/09/10 04:05 AM

As we mentioned in an earlier post, this is a great time to be buying a home.  With the economy still wobbling a little, there are some great deals out there.  Mortgage rates are still much lower than a year ago.  Depending on where you live in Missouri and other variables, there are property tax credits for home owners.  If you are a buyer, the time is ripe to make a move.  However, you might find that you are seller.  Perhaps you need to sell a home before you can purchase the "home of your dreams".   Maybe you are required … (0 comments)

missouri: Lake of the Ozarks! Rich in history! Rich in beauty! (Part 2) - 03/24/10 06:20 AM
The massive Lake of the Ozarks is lies across two counties.  The northern edge of the Lake with the area around Bagnell Dam and Lake of the Ozarks State Park are located in Miller County, but  the largest part of the Lake lies in Camden County.  Camden County is every bit as chock-full of history as Miller County.
Camden County was first called "Kinderhook County".  The name was in honor of President Martin Van Buren and was named after his home in Kinderhook, New York.  Interestingly, Van Buren was the first US President born in America (after the Revolution) and spoke … (0 comments)

With a surface covering 55,000 acres, Lake of the Ozarks is actually situated in two counties.  The largest part of the Lake lies in Camden County, but the northern edge of the Lake around Bagnell Dam and Lake of the Ozarks State Park are located in Miller County.  Both counties are a treasure trough of history, but today let's look at beautiful Miller County.
In 1805, famous military man and explorer, Zebulon Pike was ordered by General James Wilkinson, Governor of the Upper Louisiana Territory, to head out and find the source of the great Mississippi River.  Upon his return, he … (0 comments)
