In April 2021, the Sedona weather was nothing like March.  One thing about Sedona, our weather is not "hum-drum".  We had a little of everything in march including 7.5 inches of snow.  So April felt a lot warmer. The first 11 out of 12 days were in the 80ºs. Almost the entire month was above 72º. There were only a couple of days we turned on … (32 comments)

Why Is Sedona Weather Almost Perfect?April has been nothing like March. We had a little of every temperature range as well as 7.5 inches of snow. One thing we appreciate is there is nothing hum-drum about the weather.  Maybe it was the snow but March didn't feel as warm as normal. But, as April came in, there were 11 days of 80º weather in the first 12 days!

Why Is Sedona Weather Almost Perfect?April had a little of every temperature range! There is nothing hum-drum about the weather.  We enjoyed some Sedona 70º plus spring weather at the beginning of the month and around the 9th, a cold front came in and made it feel like winter for about 5 days. Of course, that is if your winter is in the 50ºs and 60ºs! We had no freezing temps and only 1 day dipped below … (28 comments)

Sedona Double Rainbow
It has been a while since I have seen a rainbow. We have not had a lot of rain so it only makes sense we would not get the opportunity to see a rainbow! This one actually had elements of a double rainbow. I also found it interesting the middle section was very light but both ends had great saturation.  It seems odd to me since the right side appeared to be in clear skies.
Anyway, I always take seeing a rainbow as a good sign. This was two days ago and though we didn't see any measurable rain, everything was wet, also … (21 comments)

Sedona July Weather Summary
Monsoon
July 2019
Sedona weather for July 2019 had below average temps and had some rain at the very end of the month (1.53”). This is less than normal for July. Last July 2018, we had 3.57”. El Niño conditions may still be showing some influence. We have had a total of 30 days over 90º and 13 days over 100º. Interestingly, we had one day under 80º because of the monsoon. Everything really cooled off. Last year at this time we had 31 days over 90º and 12 days over 100º. Our overall … (35 comments)

Sedona Weather for March 2019
The month of March mirrored the saying “March came in like a lion and went out like a lamb”. The month was not quite as warm as 2018 but it was roughly a very similar temperature pattern. However, the leaves on our Japanese Maple tree are just coming in now. Last year the leaves started coming in the third week March.

You can feel the crisp air and smell the pine. It is wonderful! We did have 8 more days over last year above 90º which brought the mean temp up by 3º. But by evening, the windows were open allowing the AC to be turned off. There were a couple of days we did not even turn the AC on. One day had a high of 67º! … (8 comments)

Our Sedona monsoon has peaked and will be coming to an end soon.  Technically, monsoon goes to the end of September, but mid July through August is the peak of the season. Our most dramatic images are always taken during monsoon. The only images involving actual weather that can come close to this season are images taken during, or right after, a snowfall. Before you know it, winter will be here! It is not a season we dread, because winter does not last long and is pretty mild overall.  Of course, spring and fall foliage is … (13 comments)

Monsoon T-Storms Over Soldiers Pass West Sedona
Lenticular Clouds
I pulled off Soldiers Pass Rd because I saw a triple stack of lenticular clouds. Lenticular clouds are very rare to see and generally form over mountains because of updrafts and wind sheer.  By the time I got my phone out the lenticular clouds (upper left) turned into a fuzzy after-thought. However the image was still very interesting because of all the different types of clouds in a tight area.

Mother Nature Put On A Show
This storm came through right at dusk. There is slight rainbow (hard to see)  in the last segment of the  lightning bolt. It was easy to make out the red, orange and yellow colors with the naked eye.
Some of the lightning was so strong and close that the camera was a complete white washed out screen.
Two days ago on the local evening news the station asked a question, "Are you still waiting for monsoon?"  Monsoon may not hit every community as a storm comes through. The energy of the cell can be concentrated in small areas as … (23 comments)

Our Sedona spring was gorgeous with perfect temps and not much rain. But right before summer started we had a 13 day heat spell that averaged 105º for a high. That was a record for us! June is generally the hottest month of the year because monsoon does not normally develop until July. You need a dew point of 55º and just the last couple of days started to reach that threshold.
Today, we had the AC on for less than 3 hours. All the windows are open and we are enjoying the fresh … (16 comments)
