THING 117 – Stay inside and take in a movie – “Forbidden Planet” (1956): - 02/24/11 09:16 PM
from my blog at www.greenwichct.com

I’m sorry for putting another movie up, but this looks cool. You have to love the 1950s artwork. Anyhow, Friday is supposed to be a horrible day of rain, so this might just be worth it.

THING 114 – The Great Backyard Bird Count - 02/17/11 10:36 PM

The things you find on the internet…
So, in my quest to provide everyone with something new and fun to do in Greenwich I found some calendars talking about this bird count that runs from Feb 18th to the 22nd. Most calendars don’t have much on them other than this being a bird count and some links as to where you can learn more about them.
After doing a little more googling I found an article in the Greenwich Time talking about this event.

And then even more googling I found the home base for the National Backyard Bird … (1 comments)

THING 113 – Sunrise Yoga at the Greenwich YMCA (while it’s still around) - 02/17/11 10:34 PM

I’m not sure why anyone would want to wake up voluntarily at 6:30am (I’ve done it for years for work (aka. not voluntarily)), let alone wake up that early to twist your body into a pretzel. But, for those of you who have an interest, the YMCA has Sunrise Yoga Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30am to 7:30am.  If you’re interested, I’d sign up now while there still is a Greenwich YMCA.

Luis Duarte hosts Tai Chi classes at First Congregational Church of Greenwich on Weds at 8am and Thursdays at 9am. For those of you who don’t know where the Church is, its at 191 Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich.
Ok, I just spent the last 20 minutes looking through different Greenwich websites to figure out what I could post as the next thing to do in Greenwich when I came upon this. I know nothing of Tai Chi and even less of Luis Duarte, but this class is costs only $7 per session (if you pay monthly) and $8 … (0 comments)

Greenwich, CT Real Estate Market – Jan 2011 - 02/13/11 06:37 PM
Welcome to 2011 everyone. We have made it and now have a month under our belt.  I hope everyone out there has been able to stay warm though this crazy winter.  I’m going to do something that I thought I would never do and agree that the weather has had an impact on the real estate market here in Greenwich.  A couple years ago I would have told you that was crazy and a market will outshine any wild weather, but under these wild circumstances I am changing my opinion.  The 4 feet of snow and ice sitting outside of many … (0 comments)

THING 111 – Don’t forget that Monday is Valentine’s Day - 02/13/11 06:35 PM

I’m not really sure where I stand on Valentine’s Day. The cool kid in me wants to shrug it off and say that it’s just a gimmick created by Hallmark to sell cards.  The sap in me likes to think that it’s a nice to day to go a little overboard and do something nice for my wife.  Either way, it stinks when you forget Valentines Day. That’s why I’m here using up one of my “Things” to do and reminding everyone that Monday is Valentine’s Day.  No matter where you stand on the appreciation for this “holiday” you … (1 comments)

A Dream Fulfilled: Our Nation’s Tropical Garden
Charles “Chipper” Wichman, Director and CEO of the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
The idea of a national organization focused on preserving tropical bio-diversity was a long-held dream of many visionary and influential people. That dream came into existence with the signing of Public Law 88-449 on August 19, 1964, which, by an act of Congress, created the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Today, with five gardens and five preserves and programs … (0 comments)

THING 108 – FREE movie at Greenwich Library - 02/10/11 10:10 PM
from my blog at www.greenwichct.com

For those of you who don’t mind subtitles, are on a budget or actually have an interest in this movie, Caterina in the Big City will be shown Friday (11th) at 8pm in the Greenwich Library (Cole Auditorium). My trusted IMDB gave it a decent rating, so it should be pretty good.

THING 106 – Glory Days (Colonial), an actual diner in Greenwich - 02/08/11 08:33 AM
from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com

For those of us who grew up in Greenwich, this is Colonial (name changed to Glory Days a little while ago). I’m assuming that was due to a ownership change. It looks and feels the same to me. The only difference I can see is that the diner is only open until 1:30am. I’m not sure if Colonial was 24/7, though I do remember eating there past 1:30am. Fantastic post-party spot.
Now that I’ve made my way into the adult side of life I still enjoy meeting friends here for coffee, breakfast or lunch. Its … (0 comments)

Referrals - 02/08/11 08:32 AM
If anyone out there in cyber space knows of someone looking to buy, sell or rent in Fairfield or Westchester Counties, I’d love the chance to talk to them.
I’m currently working with the #1 team in William Raveis covering all of Fairfield County and Eastern Westchester County. I personally focus on Greenwich, CT and Rye, NY, but work closely with teammates that focus on every other town in the counties (including Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Rowayton, Norwalk, Westport and Fairfield).
Today, being the Monday after the Super Bowl, signifies the unofficial start to the spring market, so it’s a great … (0 comments)

THING 105 – Super Bowl Weekend Catered By Garden Catering - 02/08/11 08:31 AM

When it comes to Super Bowl parties I’ve seen it all. Ok, I’ve never actually attended the Super Bowl or any seriously crazy parties, but I’ve been to my share of home events.  I’ve seen the classic nachos, dip and Budweiser.  Slightly upper scale events include pigs in blankets and maybe some mixed drinks.  Some have even pulled out  shrimp cocktails and wine, but I’m not sure they understood that we were watching a football event and not some yachting regatta.
If I were hosting an event this year (as opposed to being on Jet Blue watching the game on … (0 comments)

THING 104 – Watch Greenwich Academy Squash Go UNDEFEATED! - 02/01/11 03:44 PM
from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com

Those of you who read the Greenwich Time today know what I’m talking about, but for those of you who didn’t, the Greenwich Academy Varsity Squash team is currently undefeated (8-0) and only has two more matches before the Team Nationals at Yale on the 11th.  I’m sorry Darien (2/2/11) and Sacred Heart (2/7/11), but these girls seem to be on a roll.
Here’s the Greenwich Time article for those of you who prefer reading the writings of a professional.
Here’s the Greenwich Academy schedule if you have an interest in attending.

THING 103 – Looking Back at Greenwich Weddings with Betteridge - 02/01/11 01:12 AM
from my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com

Betteridge is one of those stores that have been in Greenwich since the beginning and therefore can host events like this without looking like they are just doing it for the publicity.  Of course they want any advertising they can get, though it’s not like they need it.  Anyone who has lived here for a decent period of time knows all about it.  There will be a lot of people in attendance that have no interest in actually buying an engagement ring, but are there for a little more history on the town.  The store … (0 comments)
