As a Home Stager, you're always proud of your work but in this instance, it was a little stronger than usual! I had the support of a great agent at Coldwell Banker, Jackie Garcia-Morales, and we had a lot of fun transforming this ugly duckling!

The day was doomed from the beginning since the furniture company arrived 1 hour before they were supposed to. When I reached the condo, it actually started to sleet! Nothing like removing staging supplies from your car in wet, nasty weather. Ten minutes after we got there, the power went out and didn't return for several hours later!

While it's hard to tell, we had lots of issues to deal with here. The condo is very dark and the choice of carpeting, wall color and ceiling color, did not help. And yes I said ceiling color! Someone thought they were being artistic by putting the color on the ceiling and not on the walls. If you look at the Bathroom shot, the wall color is actually like a highlighter yellow but in the after photo, I was able to tone it down with green accessories.

Cheap Design Ideas for the Fall

With Autumn right around the corner, it's a great time to change the look of your home. On a tight budget? Who isn't! Here are some inexpensive ideas!

- Buy new pillows. You can instantly change the look of a room by adding new pillows. Love color? No problem! Here is where you can be bold!

- Furniture. Getting bored with the look of your room? Move the furniture around and find a new configuration that you like. Maybe mix it up and swap items from other rooms. No rules, it's your space!

- Furniture looking old and worn with little money to spend? Try slipcovers for your sofas, love-seats and chairs. Aside from protecting your furniture from additional wear, they can give your space a new identity!

- Art and accessories. Buy something new or move items around just like your furniture. Need light? Adding mirrors to a room can help move light around and brighten its appearan

- Bedding. Another great way to update your bedrooms is with new bedding. Look for bed-in-a bag sets from Macys, JC Penney, and Bed, Bath & Beyond. While the stores don't have as great a collection, if you go online there's plenty to choose from! Worried if you'll like it? I'm a big fan of reading the product reviews. They will let you know if the color is true, quality of the product, etc. Not happy with your selection? I make sure I can return it to one of their local stores. Make sure you sign up for emails, mailing lists, etc. Most of these stores have coupons and discount codes for extra savings!

- Plants. I'm a big believer that a house becomes a home with some greenery! Don't break the bank with annuals though; check out your local supermarkets for fall specials on mums. They also carry tropical plants for indoor use and I see them for around $10 each!

Don't be afraid to get your family involved! I used to think I was the only creative person in my home until my daughter gave me some great ideas. Have fun making over your home this fall!

Helping A Neighbor

I would like to share this with my friends in the Metro Area. Madeline Wiebicke is an agent with Keller Williams Hudson Valley, and she needs our help.

"My husband Randy Wiebicke is down at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center going through another stem cell transplant. He will be in the hospital for a month receiving chemo and then his brothers stem cells . I have attached a letter from Sloan Kettering for anyone who would like to donate blood or platelets. It must be done at Sloan Kettering and it is best to have an appointment because the platelets have a very short life and they like to give them to him fresh. With his last stem cell transplant he received many transfusions of platelets and he was so grateful to have them from people he knows and loves.

If you can not donate but would like to print out the flyer - the local firehouses have been wonderful for putting up the flyer and donating. Just let them know Randy is a retired NYC Firefighter.

Once again I will ask for your prayers. That is the best gift of all. I do beleive he will be cured. His cancer is down from 75% in his bone marrow to 1% and he is in full remission. This transplant is our hope for a cure. We need to wipe out that 1% so the cancer does not come back.
