I really love houses - so much so one of my hobbies is to build gingerbread houses as a family activity. There is so much fun to be had while making a complete mess of your kitchen for days and weeks on end. Not to mention to overall sugar high you live on with Royal Frosting around. The kitchen table has not had any room for anything else during construction. Meals had to be eaten in the living room. Yesterday I delivered "Cottage on Snowflake Lane" to Strawbery Banke here in Portsmouth where they hold an annual gingerbread house exhibit and (3 comments)

Dover, NH Holiday Parade 2007 - 11/26/07 10:46 AM
Santa Arrives The first Sunday after Thanksgiving always takes me back to my hometown of Dover, NH for the annual Holiday Parade. It was a crisp but sunny afternoon as all gathered to watch the festivities begin. It's a traditional parade with horses and bands and happy kids and girl scouts and boy scouts and fancy cars. Santa always checks out Dover first before visiting the rest of the towns in the area. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Dover Fire Department Candy Delivery Good News! This time of year is very special to me as it is to most of us. Here in Portsmouth it is a time to give thanks by giving back to the community. I became a Rotarian over 11 years ago and was honored to serve as our Club President in 2002-2003. Serving the annual Thanksgiving Dinner has always been my favorite volunteer activity. It takes over 100 volunteers to put on the event. This year we are celebrating the 36th time the dinner has been hosted by the club. The dinner consists of two groups - those that come to the Unitarian Church (1 comments)
Password Affirmation Magic - 11/20/07 12:13 PM
We all have a bunch of passwords in our life. More passwords than the normal brain can remember. You know the most common one - your pet's name. Easy to remember is key when creating a password. But how about making your password a positive affirmation as well? Instead of Fluffy42 think about trying 6Million or Money100 or ListingQueen or RealEstateRules or RERewards?! I bet you can come up with a ton. Think about how many times a day you put in your password just to sign on to AR now multiply that by a positive affirmation and BAM you are (28 comments)

Portsmouth, NH Market Square WiFi Hot Spot - 11/15/07 10:22 AM
Portsmouth Market Square - WiFi Hot Spot A major expansion is in the works which will make free WiFi access plentiful in the downtown area of Portsmouth. It's planned that there will be free internet access from Prescott Park in the South End and throughout the entire Islington Street corridor. Currently most of Market Square has coverage with a WiFi terminal located at the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce Information Kiosk. Signal is strong but in some places our traditional brick architecture sometimes blocks the signal. We have had free access downtown now since 2003. Carpenter Ants & Carpenter Bees in New England - 11/05/07 03:58 PM
It's a Bug's Life By Shannon Aldrich, Keller Williams Coastal Realty Termites get all the glory but here in New England we have other bug's to consider as well. Carpenter ants and carpenter bees are tops on this list. These wood boring bugs don't care if the wood is inside or outside the house. To them it's just a place to nest. And they do serve a much needed purpose in the environment because they nest in dead trees and quicken the decay of the wood. Insects like vacation homes as much as you and your guests do. Because they are vacant (5 comments)

November Holidays & Observances - 11/03/07 10:22 AM
Pumpkins at Barker's Farm Stratham NH I was searching for some creative new marketing & writing ideas for November and came across many different sites filled with traditional and odd holidays. Most of them I was not able to cross check but I have compiled a list with links for the ones I could confirm. Wouldn't want to spread urban legends ya' know. But, alas, I do wish I could confirm National Deviled Egg Day or National Clean Out Your Fridge Day. This has also given me several ideas of organizations that are probably looking for volunteers this month. Volunteering is my (6 comments)
A spooky spectacular that takes over the streets of Portsmouth for the most unusual of local festivals. The 13th Annual Halloween Parade stroll through the streets of Portsmouth. This year they estimated 800 marchers (I was one of them) and 2,000 onlookers. Many of the on-lookers were just as dressed up as the marchers! Our local Leftist Marching Band was in attendance with all their post-school band glory. The kids from New Heights teen after school program were out in force with drums and stiltwalkers. They went for the Egyptian theme this time including pyramid. My favorite of the night came (3 comments)
