Our Publix on Fleming Island is remodeling. Every night Monday through Thursday, the store closes at 9 PM. The store employees can be seen hurrying to unload the cases which will be replaced or refurbished during the night. This is expected to go on for the next couple of weeks.

Governor Charlie Crist dedicated the First Coast Outer Beltway yesterday at a ceremony at I-10 and Chaffee Road. The Governor spoke about how the Outer Beltway is an important roadway for the entire Northeast Florida region, not just for Clay and St. Johns Counties.

Realtors®, Remodelers, Contractors, Buyers and Sellers, be aware that there are new guidelines for homes built all the way to 1982 for lead-based paint.
Lead-based paint stopped production in 1978, but there were homes using these products all the way into 1982. As of April this year, Contractors will be required to test to see if any home built 1982 or before has lead-based paint. Wordless Wednesday ~ Rich's Antiques in Forest VA - 03/24/10 12:27 PM

I was so hoping that there would be hot chocolate, coffee, or some other refreshments for sale when we walked through the doors of Rich's Antiques in Forest VA, just down the street from Poplar Forest (Thomas Jefferson's summer home). It was disappointing not to find victuals, but it was NOT disappointing to meet Rich, the owner. He is a wealth of knowledge about the local area, and his store is filled with collectibles to make a collector's heart soar. He told us about Martha Jefferson Randolph's home which I wrote about last week.

BUILDER FRAUD - Convicted - 03/24/10 12:09 PM
Justice caught up with one local Jacksonville homebuilder who committed fraud during the real estate boom here in Florida.
This week, one of the owners of American Home Builders received a very stiff 145 year sentence for inflating the prices of home he was building in order to give $50,000 to $100,000 back to buyers outside of closing. Three other co-conspirators plead guilty and testified against him at the trial.
This man is 59 years old, and this is a sad day for him and his family. It is difficult to think of someone who has been a very successful businessman … (3 comments)

"Aren't condos and townhouses the first to go down in value?"

Ashford Manor in Forest VA is the former Summer home of Martha Jefferson Randolph, daughter of Thomas Jefferson. Her home was a couple of hills away from President Jefferson's Poplar Forest, both overlooking thousands of acres owned by the Jefferson family. Deena Cottingham inspired the 'photo smithing' of this photograph. It was a blustery day, and the light fell off the wonderful English Box-woods. With a little photo editing, they are in view (I can almost smell them), and the clouds are more dramatic.

It's a highlight of the long journey from our home in Jacksonville FL to visit family in Virginia, and we have eaten at most of the locations for Maurice's BBQ in and around the Columbia SC area.

Last night we tried a new location (they have lots), rolling up a little before 9. Squinting at the door and seeing faces inside, it appeared that the closing time was "9."
