seacoast new hampshire: Wrapping Gifts For Needy Children Is A Great Way To Spend Giving Tuesday - 11/28/17 12:46 PM
Two weeks ago I wrote about the Operation Santa Claus program
and my participation this year...
Operation Santa Claus - Bringing Holiday Cheer To Those In Need

My fellow home stagers from our local RESA (Real Estate Staging Association) chapter and I were given a family to sponsor...three children, ages 10, 6 and 5.
I am very proud to say that we were able to get everything on the children's wish lists!

Today we gathered at my home and we wrapped all the Christmas presents.
How perfect that today just happens to be Giving Tuesday!

We hope our three "adopted" children are very happy on Christmas morning.

seacoast new hampshire: My Buyers' Agent Is A Pain In The A$$. I Wouldn't Have Her Any Other Way - 11/20/17 06:24 AM
My husband and I are currently on the hunt for a home. We are looking to downsize in both square footage and monthly expense. The dream is early retirement and to travel the country.
The hunt has been extremely frustrating. As you all know, inventory is at a low, causing prices to rise.
But price and availability aren't the only things causing us stress.
Our agent, Donna, is a lifelong friend.
Luckily Donna and I are able to laugh about a lot of what's been happening, but I feel we are all shaving some time off our life expectancy trying to make this dream … (61 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: Operation Santa Claus - Bringing Holiday Cheer To Those In Need - 11/13/17 06:05 AM
November, being the month of thanks and giving, is the perfect time to reflect on what blessings we have in our lives and how we can pay it forward and enrich the lives of others.
No matter what your burdens or hardships are in life, and we all have them, we all have something to give back. Whether you donate money or donate your time nothing will make your life richer than helping others.

I am currently serving as the Secretary for the NH Chapter of RESA (Real Estate Staging Association) and our chapter is proud to be sponsoring a family this Christmas … (23 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: I Captured The Moment The Moment Was Captured - 10/29/17 06:25 AM
In July my husband and I were on our boat with our daughter and her boyfriend. It was a beautiful day and as the sun set it became an even more beautiful evening.
Of course, we all grabbed our phones to capture the moment.
While the others went for the obvious shot, I captured something else....

I captured the moment that the moment was captured.

seacoast new hampshire: The Boy In The Sombrero...Eight Year Old Mystery Solved! - 10/14/17 06:11 AM
So yesterday morning I'm looking through all my photos to find some good ones to share in the ActiveRain Photo Contest...
thank you Dick Greenberg...
and something pretty cool happened.

Background story:
In 2009 Rick and I attended Market Square Day in Portsmouth.  I took quite a few photos. One of my favorite photos taken that day was of a boy, wearing a sombrero.

I love how he was just quietly sitting there, enjoying a snack. He was so relaxed and had such a sweet expression on his face...deep in thought.

Back to the photo contest:
This has always been one of my favorite photos, even though he was … (59 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: Jack and Thomas Review 110 Grill In Rochester NH - 08/28/17 04:51 AM
Last month I wrote about a local restaurant, 110 Grill, offering FREE children's meals through the month of August.

Sounded like a great concept to me! I mentioned I was going to check it out with a couple of the grandchildren.
Many of you suggested I have the kids do a review, but it was Michael Jacobs who had the best idea....have the kids do a video review.

Well last night we did just that.
My husband and I took grandsons, Jack and Thomas, to 110 Grill and the boys were happy to do a review.

The atmosphere is nice.
The kids' menu is well presented. Kids have a … (33 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: My Bloomers Are Showing And It's A Beautiful Sight! - 08/14/17 05:19 AM
Summer is in full bloom in New Hampshire!
With such a short season to enjoy the glorious colors that come with warm weather, those of us who live in the Northeast don't take our gardens for granted.

The flowers outside my door bring a smile to my face each and every day.

I've never had much of a green thumb and I can't really take credit for establishing this beautiful display. Most of what you see was planted by the previous owners.
We added one hydrangea plant after we moved in, and each year we plant the annuals in the window box and … (43 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: Fun Things To Do In Portsmouth NH - Tour The USS Albacore Submarine - 07/21/17 05:53 AM
We recently took our grandsons, Jack and Thomas, to tour the USS Albacore Submarine in Portsmouth.

Built at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the early 1950's, Albacore was the first Navy-designed vessel with a teardrop shaped hull built specifically to operate under water.  It was the prototype for the Navy's nuclear powered submarine force.
Albacore was placed in commission in December of 1953 and decommissioned in September of 1972. In 1984 she was towed from Philadelphia and returned to Portsmouth.
She has been at her current location, Albacore Park in Portsmouth, since 1985.
The USS Albacore, once a research submarine, now preserved as a museum, … (24 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: Paul Revere's Midday Ride To Portsmouth New Hampshire - 12/13/16 08:37 AM
Most people are familiar with the midnight ride of Paul Revere and its historic relevance to our nation.
But most people don't know about Paul's midday ride to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, four months earlier.

242 years ago today, December 13, 1774,
Paul Revere rode into Portsmouth to warn locals of the British intention to secure all their munitions. (to keep the rebels from getting their hands on them)
Portsmouth's patriots gathered and planned an attack on Fort William and Mary.
They swarmed the walls of the fort and seized 97 barrels of gun powder.
As word spread of the successful attack more patriots were recruited.

You Might Be From Portsmouth New Hampshire If......

Down south is considered Boston, and up north is considered North Conway.

You buy your liquor at the store on the highway.

You are amazed each and every year at how wicked awesome the 4th of July fireworks are!

You are one of thousands gathering at 7 pm on October 31 EVERY year, rain or moonshine, for the amazing spectacle that is the Portsmouth Halloween Parade.

You know that The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, established in 1800 as the nation's first naval shipyard, isn't actually located in Portsmouth.  It lies across the river in Maine.

seacoast new hampshire: Unique Marketing Strategy - Buyers Stepping Up To See The View - 03/07/11 11:03 PM
Unique Marketing Strategy - Rye New Hampshire Buyers Are Stepping Up To See The View
Rye Harbor lost Saunders Restaurant last year.  This year Rye Harbor gained "The Moorings", four prime house lots with amazing harbor views.  The Moorings has gotten some attention recently for a unique marketing strategy.  I was intrigued enough to go over and check it out in person.

Kind of funny when you first see them...
two
 "stairways to nowhere"
erected on a vacant lot on the shore of Rye Harbor.
What's not so funny, is the brilliant marketing concept behind their construction.

The stairways were built as a way of showing potential buyers the amazing views from their future dream home.  Without the views the lots would only be half … (60 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: The Angels Weren't The Only Thing Blue Around Here Last Weekend - 09/02/10 02:30 AM
Last weekend Portsmouth, New Hampshire hosted it's first air show in over twenty years at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease.  The stars of the show were the amazing US Navy Blue Angels.

For days, leading up to their performance, the Blue Angels buzzed the area with booming sound and roaring speed, practicing their craft just above our heads.

For many locals, just having the Angels practice in the area, was exciting enough.

It is estimated that 70,000 people were in attendance for the two day show.   Local businesses couldn't be happier with the results.
This year, the Blue Angels received 400 applications for appearances and accepted approximately 30...Portsmouth was lucky to be one of … (20 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: Sometimes You Feel Like A Ride, Sometimes You Don't - 04/25/10 06:20 AM
It's been a busy weekend - both work and play.  It feels good to get things accomplished that need to get done.  It's somehow easier to get motivated when the sun is shining...like you have extra charge in your batteries.
Yesterday we did some yard work in the morning and then rewarded ourselves by taking the Harley out for the afternoon.  The weather couldn't be better.  We rode along the coast with the perfect combination of sunshine and ocean breeze.  We stopped for lunch and enjoyed our first lobster roll of the season.
Today we cleaned all the windows, inside and out, and all the screens.  I totally understand why cleaning people … (22 comments)

seacoast new hampshire: Seacoast New Hampshire - One Dozen Places To Go On A Rainy Day - 06/29/09 02:51 AM
It is yet another rainy day here on the Seacoast of New Hampshire.
If you are one of the lucky ones to have chosen this week for your vacation, you have my sympathy.
At this point, what can you do but make the best of it.
With a prediction of more rain throughout the week, I thought you could use some suggestions on things to do in the area.

1. The Fox Run Mall is the obvious choice, but keep in mind that others will have the same idea.  Malls and movie theaters will be crowded.

2.  Manchester  You could  visit the Currier Museum of Art and  SEE   Science … (9 comments)

it's a seacoast city rich in culture and history...
a great place to visit and vacation.
In 2008 Portsmouth was named by Prevention Magazine as one of the Top 100 Walking Cities.  That same year, Portsmouth was added to the list of  "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" by the National Trust For Historic Preservation who called it "one of the most culturally rich destinations in the country with a stimulating mix of historic buildings, sidewalk cafes, great restaurants, art galleries, jazz clubs and distinctive artisans' boutiques."
