The new Thorntown/Sugar Creek Township fire station dedication is at 1 P.M. on Saturday, March 19th.

The volunteer firefighters held a private reception on Friday night to honor the hard work of Mr. Noah Way and all the time spent in getting the fire station finished, and Mrs. Frances Fairfield and her late husband Floyd Fairfield for gifting the six acres of land the new fire station is built upon.

This is the site where THE PROPHET(half brother to Tecumseh) directed the Native American forces in their attack upon the encamped militia and army forces led by William Henry Harrison in the Battle of Tippecanoe. Prophet's Rock is an easy 10 minute hike from the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum in Battle Ground, Indiana(just 10 minutes north of Lafayette by car).  Be careful if you actually climb up to the rock and cave formation as it is very steep and can be quite slippery if the ground is damp. UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS IN TIPPECANOE COUNTY:  10th BEST IN INDIANA  

 
Tippecanoe County's unemployment rate dropped to 7.6% which is the lowest unemployment experienced since December of 2008 for the Greater Lafayette area.
In order to be considered unemployed an individual must be at least 16 years old AND trying to find employment.
The road to economic recovery has been a slow process for the Lafayette area.
West Lafayette has a 4.9% unemployment rate and Lafayette's was almost double that at 8.6%.

BENTON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IS CLASS 3A STATE RUNNER-UP IN GIRLS BASKETBALL.
The #3 ranked Benton Central Lady Bison overcame a first half deficit and fought back in the second half to take the lead from a much taller, #1 ranked Evansville Memorial team.
The Lady Bison withstood a furious Evansville rally and had a chance to win the game on a last second shot that fell short, as the game ended in regulation in a tie!
OVERTIME!
The #1 ranked Tigers never looked back and clawed their way to a 58-50 overtime win over the Bison.

We have had a tradition in the past in our part of Indiana to get a snow storm during the IHSAA boys basketball tournament in the Lafayette area.  We did receive a small amount of snow this first week of March.
It is always beautiful looking at the water in Capilano By The Lake no matter what time of year it is!

The Tippecanoe Battlefield Nature Center is located on the grounds of the Tippecanoe Battlefield Park in Battle Ground, Indiana.  It is only five minutes from the Highway 43 exit on Interstate 65. 
The Tippecanoe Battlefield Nature Center, as well as the museum, is used year round to educate our children about nature and the Battle of Tippecanoe which was actually the opening battle of The War of 1812.

Benton Central High School Lady Bison in IHSAA girls state basketball finals!
The Lady Bison defeated defending state  AAA champs Fort Wayne Concordia by a score of 42-39 in last week's Elkhart Semi-state.
Benton Central will take a 20 game win streak into the state finals on Saturday against Evansville Memorial which has a 27-1 record.  The Bison sport a 23-1 record with their only defeat belonging to McCutcheon in the JC Hoops Classic.
Benton Central last played for the state championship in 1989.
Don't have a GPS to get to the Fort Wayne War Memorial Coliseum to watch the championship game?
