Now that the winter has arrived, that huge yellow jacket nest under the holly bush outside our front door is undoubtedly dead. That said, I want my husband to dig it up so we can get a better look at it—these things fascinate me, after all. But is he going to do it? Uh-no. He has this theory that not all of the bees are dead and he will be stung trying to extract the nest.

So I do my part to help out with the yard work because we have a large yard and because I actually enjoy doing it.  Now I'm not afraid of hard work, so one hot Saturday not long ago, I was weed eating the creek that runs right through our front yard...no big deal--I've done it a hundred times before. Well, I believe in being prepared for the unthinkable, so I am wearing jeans, heavy hiking socks with hiking boots, long sleeve shirt, a helmet with ear things that muffle sound and a screen to cover my face (attached to helmet) and … (9 comments)
