home staging: Snap a picture to discover need for Staging - 08/31/09 02:46 PM
It is said that approximately 85% of homes are actually being sold online.  Not that the actual purchasing occurs on the internet, but that most buyers today are searching the internet for homes before they actually agree to see a home.  If a picture of a home does not appeal to them, they keep right on looking.  There are some people who feel that if there is not a picture, then it isn't worth going to see.
That is great news if you have a house that is market ready, looking fantastic and have great pictures posted online.  If your … (13 comments)

home staging: Zero to Pending in 27 HOURS - 06/07/09 03:21 PM
I have a true Active Rain Success Story to share!
In March I received a phone call from a gentleman who said he found my blog on Active Rain and wanted to know if I was interested in Staging his house to sell.  He wasn't actually positive they were going to move yet, but could I come over and give them a consultation.  It was my first lead from AR and I was so excited that AR actually generated business for me.
I went to the clients' house and he and his wife are dream clients!  They have a beautiful home … (25 comments)

home staging: "Do I have to buy new stuff?" - 05/22/09 02:32 PM
Whenever I conduct seminars in the community about Staging, I frequently get asked the question:

"Do I have to buy all new stuff?"

I can't help but smile when I think about why the person asking me that question has that idea.  More often than not, people associate Home Staging as they see it on television.  With shows that tout: "You too can get your house ready for sale with only $2000!"  or "I spent $950 on Staging and it sold in less than two weeks!", it is hard not to have the impression that one must spend … (23 comments)

home staging: Homeowners lose thousands of dollars - What is ROSI? - 04/24/09 02:35 PM
Everyday I see homeowners lose THOUSANDS of dollars.  In these economic times, it  breaks my heart because it is needless for the most part.

What am I talking about?  Whenever someone invests money there is a return on that investment, also known as ROI.  Home Staging is really no different, we professionals call it ROSI, or Return on Staging Investment.  This occurs when the value of your home increases because of the investment in Staging Dollars put into the house.

Most people cannot afford to throw money away needlessly.  A popular view is that Home Staging is a … (12 comments)

home staging: Let them eat cake! - 03/12/09 02:37 PM
I have to give a big shout out to a great connection I have made in my community.  I have the privilege of working with an amazing event coordinator that also happens to do a great job decorating cakes. Her name is Rebecca Reszka and her company is Social Solutions.
I usually take two cakes whenever I go to a presentation at a realtor's office.  This was a marketing techniques that I learned of at the ASP course I took in July 2007. I tell the realtor that I will bring whatever flavor cake they choose.  I take that request and then I call Rebecca … (26 comments)

home staging: "Invincible Summer" - 03/03/09 10:56 PM
I found this quote today and thought that it would be good to share.

In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer." By Albert Camus.

Economic times being the way they are and the uncertainty of survival for many people, we must take heart in believing that we can survive.  Not only can we survive, but we can muster all of the strength we have acquired and shine like the sun.  Perservering through the darkness of the desolate and desperate times,  we will be an example to those who may be … (7 comments)

home staging: Change Victim - not me! - 02/05/09 12:29 PM
For many years I taught a class on Adapting to Change.  I have been named the education coordinator for the women's networking group that I belong to and decided that "change" would be a great topic to discuss today at our meeting.  I added some fresh research to the old lesson, but the gist was still - are you going to be a change victim or a change master?  Can you adapt to the times to have your business survive the slow down?
My research yielded information that applied to survival in today's economic climate.  Many experts encourage additional marketing and relationship building.  Getting in contact with those … (19 comments)

home staging: What does a car for sale have to do with Staging? - 02/04/09 01:39 AM
I was reading through several blogs the other night and a common topic was how do you convince homeowners and realtors to use staging.  I bang my head against the wall with it continually trying to find new ways to "sell" staging services.  When I went through my ASP course, one of the great analogies that Barb Schwarz used was "detail your house like you would detail your car".  I took off on that thought in one of my articles for our local paper.  I thought I would share it with the Active Rain community.
Have you ever tried to sell your … (7 comments)

home staging: Staging for Survival - 02/02/09 01:51 PM
Okay I am a home stager.  I often advertise that I stage not only to sell, but stage to live, stage to work and am even throwing in my hat at Staging for seniors.  Today I realized that I could add one more - I have now Staged for Survival.
Sounds drastic doesn't it?  Today I purchased a day-glo orange rubbermaid bin that you can't miss - even in the dark.  I wanted something that I would stand out even without a flash light.  I wanted somewhere to put all of the great items that saved me and helped me survive this … (16 comments)

home staging: Ice Storm Productivity - 01/31/09 12:23 PM
Well I have learned a whole bunch about myself this week.  On Tuesday our area was blanketed with a most horrific ice storm.  We have been without power since Tuesday night and four days later, I am ready for the power to be back on.
I learned that I am much more dependent on technology than I ever realized.  I feel like I had a limb cut off or something. Not being able to communicate with the outside world is crazy.  I just worked out my profiles on Active Rain and facebook and then I can't check them.  What is the world … (15 comments)

home staging: New Year Wishes - 01/27/09 07:11 AM
I know that the New Year has begun, but because I am just starting my year with Active Rain, I thought I would share a poem I wrote for the readers in our local newspaper in Elizabethtown, The News Enterprise.
Below is a lighthearted view of staging.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish you happiness and prosperity in the New Year.  May your houses get sold and your wishes come true!

T'was the night before the showing, when all through the house,
Every creature was stirring, getting rid of the mouse.

home staging: Spreading my wings - 01/26/09 08:31 AM
Starting a business of your own is always a risky venture. There are many people that will try and hold you back, but only if you let them. This business I started a year ago has been a blessing for sure. I always wanted it to be a full time gig, but ... I was a teacher when I originally started my business. My time was very divided. I felt I needed to spread my wings a little more and decided that being a stager was what I wanted to do. So in December I hung up my apple and red … (24 comments)
