whitts end: When opportunities dry up??? - 01/15/11 01:13 PM
Where there is a will there is a way!  On one of my Facebook pages not too long ago, someone posted that the opportunities for business in their area had "dried up"!  I can't imagine an area where every opportunity to showcase how you work and your level of professionalism have dried up, so I am going to give my two cents worth of ideas on ways to generate some new business!
Now this particular article is aimed at the smaller parts of the country that aren't as populated or progressive as some of the bigger cities.  I understand all too well … (40 comments)

whitts end: The Holidays are coming! Are you staging for the season? - 10/23/09 06:19 AM
The Holidays are coming!  The Holidays are coming! Are you in panic mode?  Last year about this time, you may have discussed making changes to your décor for the holidays, but decided to wait until after they were over.  You weren't doing any heavy entertaining so it could wait.

This year is a whole new ball game.  You are hosting Thanksgiving this year and you still haven't made those updates you talked about last year.  Don't fret, there is still time to update without breaking the bank.

First of all don't start any major renovations until after the New … (9 comments)

whitts end: Snap a picture to discover need for Staging - 08/31/09 02:46 PM
It is said that approximately 85% of homes are actually being sold online.  Not that the actual purchasing occurs on the internet, but that most buyers today are searching the internet for homes before they actually agree to see a home.  If a picture of a home does not appeal to them, they keep right on looking.  There are some people who feel that if there is not a picture, then it isn't worth going to see.
That is great news if you have a house that is market ready, looking fantastic and have great pictures posted online.  If your … (13 comments)

whitts end: "Do I have to buy new stuff?" - 05/22/09 02:32 PM
Whenever I conduct seminars in the community about Staging, I frequently get asked the question:

"Do I have to buy all new stuff?"

I can't help but smile when I think about why the person asking me that question has that idea.  More often than not, people associate Home Staging as they see it on television.  With shows that tout: "You too can get your house ready for sale with only $2000!"  or "I spent $950 on Staging and it sold in less than two weeks!", it is hard not to have the impression that one must spend … (23 comments)

whitts end: Homeowners lose thousands of dollars - What is ROSI? - 04/24/09 02:35 PM
Everyday I see homeowners lose THOUSANDS of dollars.  In these economic times, it  breaks my heart because it is needless for the most part.

What am I talking about?  Whenever someone invests money there is a return on that investment, also known as ROI.  Home Staging is really no different, we professionals call it ROSI, or Return on Staging Investment.  This occurs when the value of your home increases because of the investment in Staging Dollars put into the house.

Most people cannot afford to throw money away needlessly.  A popular view is that Home Staging is a … (12 comments)

whitts end: Setting the Stage for Spring - 03/24/09 01:28 AM

Are you as tired of winter as I am?  I get so excited when I see daffodils popping up all over the place.  As the temperatures rise, I get a bigger case of Spring Fever everyday.
With every change of season I get an itch to "Stage" my home's décor.  Just like I change my wardrobe to reflect the season, I also try to change my home.  As fall and winter approached, I changed to spice-scented candles, heavier fabrics for window coverings, thick blankets for my bed and pinecones and winter berries replaced my florals.  I was thrilled to … (10 comments)
