st louis park: St. Louis Park's West End... destination for foodies, fashionistas and movie buffs - 01/14/15 08:36 AM
The first time I wrote about St. Louis Park's West End was when it first opened in 2009. A gourmet grocery store, a couple shops, a couple restaurants and a luxurious movie theater were about all that were there at that time.
The West End has done a lot of growing up since then, and the January 2015 issue of Minnesota Monthly features it as one of Top Five Neighborhoods in the Metro Area. West End Boulevard is now lined with specialty shops and fine dining... and the complex now also includes a hotel and luxury apartments so you can … (2 comments)

st louis park: St. Louis Park... awesome kid-friendly suburb close to everywhere - 02/08/14 09:53 PM
St. Louis Park is a first ring Twin Cities suburb bordering the western edge of Minneapolis. Although developed primarily after WWII, it also has historic homes dating back to the early part of the last century... and more recent developments such as the West End entertainment district and the Excelsior and Grand district with condos and restaurants/shops on Wolf Park and home of the first Trader Joe's in the Twin Cities!

The eastern part of St. Louis Park bordering the Minneapolis lakes district has more of an urban feel... and the western part bordering Minnetonka has more of a suburan … (6 comments)

st louis park: Westwood Hills... home of St. Louis Park's Nature Center - 07/22/12 11:26 PM
One of the benefits of living in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is the abundance of nature at our doorsteps, wherever you might be in the metro area. The Westwood Hills neighborhood in the first ring suburb of St. Louis Park bordering Minneapolis is a neighborhood dominated by rolling hills and big homes, with nearly 40% of its area comprised of parks and open space. It is the highest geographic point in St. Louis Park, and home of the Minneapolis Golf Club and Westwood Hills Nature Center.
You may have seen Westwood Lake as you whizzed past on I-394 on your way … (1 comments)

st louis park: Park Tavern... a St. Louis Park gathering spot for over 50 years - 04/17/11 01:30 PM
The original Park Tavern in St. Louis Park, MN dates back to the early 1900's, when it was located at the corner of Louisiana Avenue and Minnetonka Boulevard. But it wasn't until the St. Louis Park's population exploded after WWII, when 60% of the city's homes were built, that Park Tavern added pinballs and it became a neighborhood gathering spot in the 1950s.
When Louisiana Avenue was expanded in the 1980s the old Park Tavern was destroyed and a new Park Tavern was built 4 blocks away at 3401 Louisiana... expanded to also include a bowling alley.

Today the neighborhood Park Tavern tradition is … (2 comments)

st louis park: Sunday's Site - Galaxy Drive In, St. Louis Park - 07/18/10 03:22 AM
NOTE: see the bottom of Sunday's Site posts for homes for sale in the area
This past week 'Where is HomesMSP?' has been visiting local drive-in restaurants. It has been fun searching out these icons of decades past (no, Sonic isn't in this group), with many hearkening from the 1950's on the outer reaches of the metro area.
I have longed for years to re-discover the onion rings of the beloved A&W drive-in from Grand Forks, ND, where I grew up... (the restaurant was such a busy hang-out that it had controlled access and you had to use the token delivered with your order to raise the … (3 comments)

st louis park: Thanh Do Restaurant, St. Louis Park - 01/23/10 01:14 AM
UPDATE: Now in a new location across the street at 8028 Minnetonka Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55426
Tucked into a small strip mall at the corner of Minnetonka Blvd and Texas Ave in St. Louis Park, MN is Thanh Do...an unassuming-looking restaurant that is far from ordinary...serving some of the best Asian cuisine in the metro area!

Owner Thom Pham grew up in Vietnam, working alongside his grandmother in her catering company. He was transplanted to the Twin Cities when he was adopted by a South Minneapolis family when he was 14.  Here he worked at a Vietnamese restaurant for many years as he saved enough money to … (4 comments)

st louis park: The West End, St. Louis Park - 12/06/09 10:39 PM
We made several stops at The West End in St. Louis Park this week...an exciting new mixed use development that includes restaurants, movie theatres, shops and a grocery store.
It's exciting to see this new complex opening in St. Louis Park after the last couple years of little new development. The top front page story in the StarTribune recently reported on the strongest jobs improvement since the recession began two years ago. Hopefully the opening of The West End is yet another sign that the economy is moving in the right direction.
Our grandson calls CREATIVE KIDSTUFF "the birthday store". If I were a kid I know I would love … (1 comments)
