katy texas: Operation Christmas Child: It's Time to Pack a Shoebox! - 11/17/16 11:17 AM
In service to others, how can we make a difference?
Traditions run pretty deep in our family, and around the holidays this is one that I hope will continue for a very long time.  About five years ago, I was introduced to Samaritan's Purse, which is an international non-profit organization that is focused on numerous relief efforts and evangelism. From that time forward we started our new family tradition of packing gift-filled shoeboxes for children in need.  For our own children, this is a great time for reflection and thanksgiving about how blessed we are as a family.  In our experience, when … (6 comments)

katy texas: Our Little Football Scores Lots of Touchdowns with the Fans! - 11/14/16 02:33 PM
No Punt Intended...

Around our home at this particular time of year, strange things happen that are completely unrelated to real estate.  The TV remote malfunctions and will only work on the sports channels.  My quiet and reserved husband brings out his alternate personality and yells at the television to encourage the players that he is "coaching" so ambitiously.   Finally, our children end up dressed in one jersey or another and it better be a "dad" approved team they are parading around in.  (Did I say Texans?)
Wait...we don't all have to wear jerseys, we just cleverly turned … (9 comments)

katy texas: Thanks Dad, This is Your Story...Happy Veteran's Day - 11/11/16 02:00 PM
It was in the early fall of 1969.  Two high school sweethearts from a rural west Texas town had just graduated in 1968 and were married in August of that same year.  It was a different time then, President Johnson was on his way out of the White House, and President Nixon was on his way in.  Gasoline was priced at thirty-five cents per gallon and Neil Armstrong was the first man to ever land on the moon that year.  But that wasn’t all that happened in 1969.  With barely a year of marriage behind them and not having seen the … (8 comments)

katy texas: A Pokemap? How "Trulia" unexpected! - 07/22/16 04:07 PM
I couldn't resist having some fun with this blog post.  After all, real estate is serious business and once in a while we all have to stop and raise an eyebrow and smirk a little.  Right?
On July 9th, my 17 year old son John told me that he was going to go running.  He is a recent high school graduate and is about to enter the U.S. Army, so of course I said in my most serious "mom" voice, "Oh, of course!  You have to stay in shape and prepare yourself for basic training, right?"  In an equally matching serious tone … (8 comments)

katy texas: Pool protection...it's more than cleaning & chlorine! - 07/19/16 05:36 AM
Here is a great piece of advice that I give to my present and future real estate clientele about swimming pools.  This comes from my unique perspective in having a property and casualty insurance background.  Please feel free to like & share: Did you know... that if you are looking to buy a home and a pool is a must have on your wish list, you need to check your liability limits on your homeowner's insurance quotes?  Most home policies come with about 100k in liability coverage.  That may seem like a lot of money, but in the event that someone sues … (4 comments)

katy texas: Who's too young to buy a home? - 07/17/16 04:46 PM
From a very young age, real estate has always fascinated me.  The character and diversity of homes and the allure of the hunt to find the perfect one has always been a welcome challenge.  Just out of high school, I was barely 19 when I purchased my first home.  My first real estate agent was Tami Thompson with RE/MAX out of Abilene, Texas.  (Don't feel bad, I wouldn't have known where Abilene was either if I hadn't been born there.)  Tami was amazing.  She went on the hunt with me, answered countless questions and mainly just made herself available whenever I … (51 comments)
