I received a call from a prospective client. She was very much involved with her bank over a short sale of her personal residence. She had not made her payments for several months, because she was in a struggle with the bank to lower her interest rate. Her house was upside down. She was with another Realtor that was unable to help her, because he lacked the knowledge. I have been a Realtor for a very long time, however, have not yet specialized in short sales. How many times do we just dread the task ahead of us. There are numerous ones, hat we all face daily. Maybe it is the drive to work. Maybe it is doing paperwork...maybe it is open houses....going to sales meetings.......going to church.....BUT there they are facing us almost everyday. Wow! How will we ever muddle thru. The first time I realized this works, was one Saturday morning. This was the day of the week that we all came together as a family for breakfast. Well, breakfast always involved peeling potatoes for 1 hungry husband and 3 girls who loved fried potatoes. (5 comments)

No Matter how seasoned you are, you feel "it". Things just don't seem right? So you are a veteran in this business and you still feel "it". You tend to take "it" personally. Your phone is not ringing off the hook. No one wants to see houses. This is your last pending.(but you closed 5 transactions last month). Still "it" is still there. Oh Wow, maybe its that double dip recession they keep talking about. Why did they stop the bailout? How long will "it" last this time? Yo get a little scared. WE ALL HAVE OUR BENCHMARKS N LIFE. THERE ARE HIGHS AND LOWS. AS WE AGE, I CAN ATTEST TO THE FACT THAT INSTEAD OF REALLY HIGHS AND LOWS, THE PEAKS AND VALLEYS SORT OF LEVEL OUT. BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT. AS WE GO THRU OUR DAILY STRESSES, SOME OF THEM SEEM HUGE! WHAT I LEARNED A LONG TIME AGO, WAS NO MATTER HOW STRESSED, SCARED, ANXIOUS, YOU MAY FEEL, YOU MUST STOP AND TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION. There are a few sayings on my wall, that have been there for years. One of them being, "if you have to eat a frog, ..swallow the biggest one first. All of us have had problems looming at us every morning. If you do not face problems in the real estate business, you are "not in the business" . I have been a seeker of knowledge about this business forever. I'[ve been to all of the seminars, Tommy Hopkins, Floyd wickman, and the like. There are so many that I frankly do not remember. Then become a Realtor. In addition to the normal ups and downs of everyday life, real estate can really add to your emotional roller coaster. A good example of this is the following: HIGHS LOWS YOU WRITE AN OFFER ITS NOT ACCEPTED OFFER ACCEPTED DIDN'T APPRAISE, BUYER NOT APPROVED, INSPECTION STINKS CLOSE TRANSACTION BUYER BACKS OUT, BANK OUT OF MONEY, Interest rates jump, New federal regulations, money is tight, mold, radon, and the list goes on and on. This is an everyday occurrence, for those of us who choose this profession. Our lives are affected, in the same way our clients are affected. We (6 comments)

HOUSES DID NOT HAVE LOCKBOXES - WE HAD TO GO TO EACH OFFICE TO PICK UP KEYS AND RETURN THEM IN 24 HOURS. IF YOU WERE SHOWING 6 HOUSES THAT MEANT YOU HAD TO PICK UP KEYS FROM 6 OFFICES, AND RETURN THEM TO 6 OFFICES. FAXES AND COPIERS WERE UNHEARD OF: CARBON PAPER AND A PAD OF PURCHASE AGREEMENTS IN YOUR CAR AT ALL TIMES. PURCHASE AGREEMENTS(WITH COPIES) HAD TO BE DELIVERED TO THE OFFICE OF THE OTHER AGENT OR....IF IT WERE A HOT PROPERTY...YOU NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO THE AGENTS HOUSE. I used to drive, in my younger days as a real estate lady, a 1969 little red Volkswagen! I loved it. I could find good parking anywhere I wanted. I could throw my daughters in the back seat. The oldest got to always ride up front. I also drove it to visit my clients, sometimes with my daughters in tow. They would sit in the car while I went inside to talk to my clients. I had listed a home for a school teacher and his wife and their two sons. He and his family were moving to the historic neighborhood (4 comments)

During my years of real estate, I have attended many conventions in this great country. Some were Prudential conventions and others were usually the National Assn. of Realtors. I have always been hungry for something to give me encouragement. As I write this I am remembering an event that is not part of this story, but I just have to tell it. My daughter and I were attending a Floyd Wickman program during the 90s and it was being held at Valle Vista in Greenwood, Indiana. My attention was always directed to the speakers, but on this day, our eyes were plastered (7 comments)

What shall we talk about today? GOLF or GULF? I've thought about this for awhile now, and this is how I sum it up. LETS TALK ABOUT BOTH.! All over the USA there are little hard golf balls. All over the Gulf there are little black soft balls. They both involve the President and our government. The little hard balls hit people sometimes if you do not yell FORE. The little soft balls in the Gulf, hit pocketbook even if you yell FORE for 84 days. There are more similarities. They both involve sand traps, water, tall grass, people, Golf has birdies, (3 comments)

The image of a Realtor is misunderstood by most outsiders and even those in the profession. It is not about selling houses. It is about SOLVING PROBLEMS. Many sellers put their life on hold just because of a house. A few years I met a young lady who was a victim of a "flipper". She was litterally burried in the house, her fiance was in Michigan waiting for her to get married. She had already waited a year, before I met her. Someone else had listed her house for thousands of dollars over its actual value. The bank was of (1 comments)
