The distressed property landscape is changing fast enough to make your head spin.  I've written before to not trust the news or listen to rumors, but to call the banks directly and ask them about your particular properties to get the most accurate information.  Ben Bernake recently announced that the Fed would be looking into it (though I'm not sure what role or jurisdiction they have).

Things are changing quickly when it comes to foreclosure and short sale policies at all the banks.  In fact, I bet that if you called the same bank twice you might get two different stories.  Such is life in the age of giant conglomerates trying to handle messes they didn't even know were being made.  By the way, most of these bank mergers happened in a single weekend- how can someone know all that is going on in another company in just two days?  Add to this the rush of files and delinquencies, constantly changing laws, federal programs, and investors who … (2 comments)

Halting Foreclosures? What will the consequences be? - 10/08/10 03:08 PM
The real estate world is buzzing with all the recent news of major banks suspending foreclosures in many states, with Bank of America being the most expansive- pausing in all 50 states.  Most agents- particularly those in distressed areas are celebrating, but many others find it puzzling that people are basically getting a bit of a free ride for a while. 
As with all knee-jerk reactions (especially those that are politically influenced), there will be MANY unintended consequences.  My question to all of you is- what will they be?
