lackland afb: Home for sale at 8142 Shumard Oak, San Antonio, TX 78223 - backs onto woods of Republic Golf Course - 02/26/11 12:58 PM
This home is a real standout in the neighborhood of Woodbridge at Monte Viejo! Built in 2006 by DR Horton, the home is ready for immediate move-in. The sellers have lovingly maintained it and updated it with stylish light fixtures and ceiling fans. They have excellent taste in decor, too. The paint selections are both modern and neutral. A covered patio and sprinkler system make it easy to enjoy the back yard, with its view of the woods bordering the golf course.
Located on the city's southeast section, Monte Viejo is an easy commute to Lackland Air Force Base or Fort Sam … (2 comments)

lackland afb: Home for sale at 9611 Claudia Circle, San Antonio, Texas 78251 - 02/16/11 09:33 AM
Lots of folks need starter homes, and this one fits the bill for first-time buyers. It's in an established neighborhood, Creekside, with a swimming pool and community center, and it's close to some of Northside Independent School District's highly rated schools.
It's also in commuting distance to Lackland Air Force Base, the South Texas Medical Center, Sea World, and other large employers in San Antonio. While being conveniently close to shopping, services, and dining, Creekside is set off the main thoroughfares. And Claudia Circle is at the back of the community on a quiet street.
This isn't the biggest home in the neighborhood, but its … (5 comments)

lackland afb: Why live in San Antonio, Texas? More like, why not? - 12/13/10 12:49 PM
San Antonio is one of the four Texas cities cited in a recent Newsweek article about “the Texaplex” in the best position for an economic upturn. More people relocate to Texas in search of jobs than any other state right now, and they head for San Antonio as well as Austin, Houston, Dallas. San Antonio benefits from its historic connection to the military, expanded manufacturing capacity, and a growing health care and biotech research industry.
It doesn't hurt that San Antonio also has a low cost of living; a mild, sunny climate; numerous universities; easy access to all kinds of outdoor … (5 comments)

lackland afb: Drive-bys and how to handle them - 07/26/10 04:06 PM
I was inspired by a recent post about agents suspected of hiding homes from their buyers, instead of showing all the homes their clients are interested in.
Many of my buyers have never been to San Antonio, or at least only once or twice. They haven't had much time to search for homes on the internet before we set out to look at some, and they don't know the neighborhoods. Folks in the military being transferred to Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB, or Randolph AFB can be on a very tight deadline, too. Often, they have just met me for the … (40 comments)

lackland afb: New primary care clinic completed at BAMC / Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio - 05/19/10 02:08 PM
Construction of a $34.9 million, 132,000-square-foot Primary Health Clinic has been completed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Its services and staff will take the place of those at Brooke Army Medical Center. BAMC is planned to become the San Antonio Military Medical Center North and will handle inpatient care.

The entire medical facility at Fort Sam is undergoing expansion in order to take over the services currently offered at Wilford Hall, situated at Lackland AFB. Accordingly, Wilford Hall will become an outpatient clinic.
The addition of 750,000 square feet of space brings the total to about 2 million. Plus, around 280,000 … (5 comments)

lackland afb: San Antonio economy diversifies into cyber security - 02/26/10 10:04 AM
San Antonio is known for the Alamo, great Tex-Mex food, and now: cyber security.
Yes, it's true. When you think of San Antonio, think of spies and spooks and computer nerds. The military and the US government desperately need better security to protect their networks from hackers. It is a growing part of the IT industry, generating $8 billion annually, according to the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. There are already more than 60 computer security firms located in the San Antonio metro, employing an estimated 6,000 workers.
Recognizing this, the US Air Force has selected San Antonio as its headquarters for … (9 comments)

lackland afb: Lackland AFB in San Antonio, the Gateway to the Air Force: bigger and better - 10/28/08 06:28 PM
The Pentagon is planning to spend $3 billion on various projects in San Antonio over the next few years, only partly as a result of 2005 Base Realignment and Closure recommendations. The Air Force will break ground next spring on a $900 million Airmen Training Complex at Lackland AFB, on San Antonio's southwest side.
This will be the biggest USAF construction project anywhere for the near future, and by 2014, 20 new structures will be built. They include a dormitory and eight 1,200-person training complexes that will be served by four dining halls to replace the Recruiting, Housing & Training facilities, … (0 comments)

lackland afb: Changes coming: Lackland AFB and Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas - 10/15/08 12:09 PM
Lackland AFB is home to the 37th Training Wing, the largest in the Air Force. It provides basic military training as well as training in professional and technical skills, and English language for the other military services as well as the Air Force, government agencies, and US allies. It is the only entry processing station for USAF enlisted Basic Military Training (BMT). Lackland currently has six technical training squadrons, from which more than 86,000 students graduate every year.
When Kelly AFB was closed as a result of BRAC 1995, Lackland took on a flying mission and incorporated the adjacent 2-mile-long runway.  … (5 comments)

lackland afb: Relocating to Lackland AFB? An overview of nearby San Antonio neighborhoods - 03/27/08 03:15 PM
If you're in the Air Force, chances are you've been to Lackland Air Force Base for basic training, but if you are coming to San Antonio for a longer stay, you might be interested in this overview of the local housing market.
Lackland is located on the west/southwest part of San Antonio, where for a long time new residential development has languished. Many of the neighborhoods close to the base were built in the 60s and 70s, before Kelly AFB was decommissioned, and prices today range around $50,000 to $80,000. These include Lackland Terrace (and other neighborhoods with the name "Lackland"), … (10 comments)

lackland afb: San Antonio's healthcare industry grows and adds jobs - 01/27/08 10:03 AM
San Antonio has a diversified, growing economy and continues to add jobs. One of my favorite sectors as it relates to investment properties is the medical/biotech industry. Until recently, hospitals were located mainly downtown and biotech, research, schools, and other medical facilities were concentrated on the northwest part of the city at the South Texas Medical Center.
In my opinion, the Medical Center area has long been one of the best areas for investment properties because it attracts prospective tenants with well-paying jobs as well as students and interns the University of Texas Health Science Center. Methodist Hospital, Christus Santa Rosa, and … (0 comments)
