idaho: Prepper Property Getting Water Out Of Your Well Without Electicity - 11/08/14 10:37 PM
One of the biggest concerns in any type of crisis is having good clean water.  Water is life and necessary to survival.  In this area we have alot of private wells.  When the power goes out though, so does the water.  I learned the hard way that chances are good that in a forest fire one of the first things to go is the electric and the water to fight a fire.
One of our local engineers has come up with a new hand pump for deep water wells.  I am sure everyone has seen a hand pump for … (2 comments)

idaho: Why winter is a great time to sell a home in North Idaho. - 11/08/14 07:53 AM
I often hear from people that real estate must be slow in the winter.  Typically though, December is historically one of our busiest months for home sales in North Idaho.
1. Many people pull their homes off the market during the winter months so there less homes on the market and it creates a feeding frenzy among buyers.
2. People often need to buy there home before the end of the year for tax reasons and 1031 exchanges.
3. Never underestimate the mile stones.  People like to buy a new home for Christmas.
4. Job changes often … (0 comments)

idaho: Prepper Property - How remote is TOO remote? - 11/07/14 07:37 PM
As more and more people are coming in to Idaho for Prepper properties I get requests for remote properties.
The vast majority of people coming in to North Idaho are coming for the same thing.  People are looking for a bug out property that they can also use for recreation or their new home site.  We pretty much all have the same thought process to survive well in tough times.  The lay of the land, the trees and the location have a lot to do with how private it is.  While it might be your dream to have … (5 comments)

idaho: Prepper Property Real Estate Series - 11/07/14 07:32 PM
It is funny how the times change.  Back in the 80's and 90's I lived off grid, raised animals and tended a garden for food.  Had a spring fed water system, barrels of fuel a couple years of food supply and no doubt was viewed as a radical nut.  I remember one time the grid went down a  people were in a mass hysteria unable to buy gas or food. Homes were being broken into, gas syphoned from cars and life came to a screeching halt for many.  I didn't even find out about it until it was almost over.  I … (2 comments)

idaho: What are you doing to fill your Christmas stocking this year. - 11/01/14 10:05 AM
For most of us the real estate has been selling quicker than hotcakes.  We have been jumping
through hoops and getting escrows closed. A few of you are coming up for air and dreaming of
taking a day off.  Even though you may still be panting from running so hard, now is the
time to get back down to basics.  As we enter into November, time is running out to add more
sales to this years tally and many of you may be just concentrating on 2015.
In my market we are at an all time low for houses. … (3 comments)

idaho: Sheltered life Wow what a storm - 07/24/14 05:21 PM
Being tucked away in a dense forest I am luck to be sheltered from wind.  I very rarely get more than a light breeze and I like it that way.  Here if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes or go 5 miles and it will change.   Yesterday North Idaho was hit by a duzy.  The sun was peaking through the clouds when I  walked in to the supermarket in Sandpoint Idaho.  When I walked out it was in a torrential downpour.  I headed out of town to Hope Idaho and there were branches leaves, and debris all over … (3 comments)

idaho: Can I get a loan on a flat roofed adobe in Alaska? - 07/12/14 10:52 PM
Everyone has a vision of their ideal home.  It might be a large colonial, a small cottage, or a soaring post and beam.  Here in Northern Idaho tucked away in the trees or sitting on the shores of a lake you can find just about everything from a castle to a treehouse.
Every area has a style of home that has a hard time making it through the underwriting process.  I had a bank in Arizona that simply did not know what to do with a log home and told me "Nobody lives in those".  I imagine there … (2 comments)
