A pure national anthem - 07/30/08 11:34 AM
There are no planes flying over. There is no whooping and hollering. There's no big cheer at the appropriate moment, just the incredibly pure national anthem sung by some very young ladies called The Cactus Cuties!
This is how it was meant to be sung and meant to be heard.
Our national anthem like you've never heard it.
Because we do not hear this enough. Texas Tech University Basketball game, Feb 9th, National Anthem sung by 5 young ladies (ages 6-8.) I have never heard it performed better than this! An entire arena remains completely silent throughout the entire … (19 comments)

The incredible story of Christian the Lion - 07/30/08 09:47 AM
Once in a while you will come across something that will stop you dead in your tracks. This morning I was working from home when my wife called out to me to come to the TV. There on the Today Show was this incredible story of Christian the Lion.
If you've already seen this, you won't mind seeing it again. If you've never seen it, goosebumps and possibly tears are on the way!
I don't think I've ever seen anything even close to this - and I love the message at the end as well. Enjoy my friends

Olympic courage inspires my sounds of summer - 07/27/08 05:16 PM
Once every four years summer means just one thing to me - The Olympics! And so as I get myself ready for 3,600 hours of TV (ok - I might only watch 3,500 hours of it), I think back each time to why my interest is so strong.
You see for me it's really about track and field. As a kid I used to run both the 100 and 400. At 12 years old I was extremely fast on my feet and then I got meningitis. The upside of that was once I had survived it, my neurologist was Dr … (40 comments)

Since the beginning of 2008, three homes have been listed and sold in this community, with the two most recent ones producing an average on market time of just 21 days! The average for the city is 121 days.

Pelosi to shut down Congress to avoid energy vote - 07/26/08 07:21 PM
She promised us she would reduce gas prices. She lied. She promised us Congress would work harder. She lied. She promised she would not play politics with people's lives. She lied again.
And now Speaker Nancy Pelosi is so certain that she would lose an up or down vote on drilling off our coasts that she will shut down Congress early to avoid that vote.
This from The Wall Street Journal:
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and other liberal leaders on Capitol Hill are gripped by cold-sweat terror. If they permit a vote on offshore drilling, they know they will lose when … (74 comments)

I just recieved the "Best in Client Satisfaction" Real Estate Agent for 2008 award - 07/25/08 03:46 PM
Why am I so successful? I genuinely believe that exceptional customer service is an absolute right for people who are entrusting what is often the biggest financial outlay they will ever make - to me. I am always available to my customers, rarely turning off my cell phone before 11pm. Most of my customers have my home number as well and most become my friends. Every year at Christmas we have a gathering of my friends in my home. It is funny as I look around the room to realize just how many of them started out as customers.
That was taken … (10 comments)

The joys of taking my Chocolate Lab to the beach (lots of pictures)! - 07/21/08 03:37 PM

By now my regular readers will know that I went off to the beach last weekend and I took my chocolate brown Lab, Katie, with me. She had never seen the Ocean before and as you can probably see, she loved it!
So this is largely about pictures- and so not that many words from me, except to say that Daytona has a beach dedicated to dogs. it's actually down by the Lighthouse of Ponce Inlet and there's a little park there when you pay $3.50 to get in, but you can come and go as you please and … (27 comments)

I'm "flipping" out here! Advice please!!! - 07/21/08 02:04 PM
I have decided the time has come for me to acquire video equipment and I love the concept of the Flip. So off I went to order one, only to discover there are various versions of the thing!
We have the original "Flip Video" followed by the "Flip Ultra" and now something called the "Flip Mino" (whatever that means).
BUT - I know that here on AR someone will point me in the right direction so that i buy the right one for me.
I want something I can put on my blog; add to my listings (more advice will be … (9 comments)

Greetings from Daytona Beach! - 07/18/08 10:01 PM
It's time for some R&R and so here we are - including my dog Katie - at the Shores hotel in Daytona Beach. When I booked it, I truly couldn't believe I had managed to find a hotel of this standard which was pleased to welcome my dog!
But they do and it's wonderful
Today Katie saw the ocean for the first time and it really was like bringing your kid to Disney for the first time! She was so excited and ran into the water and started swimming before I was even aware of it.
Considering she had major surgery … (10 comments)

Truly - you HAVE to read this!!! - 07/17/08 10:29 PM
I've just returned from seeing the "Glenn Beck - Unelectable 08" tour right here in Orlando. Glenn (yes the picture is of me and Glenn last Christmas) was actually live in Dallas, Texas tonight, but the show was beamed to 350 movie theatres across the country live and in living high def color!
Now I mention this because although I had a truly wonderful time - a very funny first half and a very politically incorrect second half - I also learned something that made me laugh so hard I thought I might actually have an attack of some description because breathing … (15 comments)

The wisdom of George Carlin - 07/16/08 09:21 PM
With the recent passing of George Carlin, the nation lost a master jokester. But within those jokes, there was philosophy.
And today via my e-mail I was reminded of some of the great questions posed by Carlin and some of the sage advice he used to deliver as well.
He will be missed.
George Carlin's Philosophy Class
  1. Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.2. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.3. Atheism is a non-prophet organization.4. If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes?5. The main reason Santa is … (11 comments)

Yet more good news for Central Florida! - 07/11/08 12:58 PM

For months now I have been saying on my radio show that here in the Orlando area we have reached the bottom and even the first small signs of a turn in the market are beginning to show. Last month I posted a similar blog to this one. And as each month's data is released, it seems that my words were indeed prophetic.
I have also talking about timing the market - the only real way to see where bottom WAS is to look back and identify it with those great 20/20 hindsight glasses.
Well this month's data was released … (11 comments)

So you want to know why gas is expensive? - 07/11/08 11:00 AM
There are many reasons. OPEC, speculators, our own Congress and my personal favorite, environmentalists!
We haven't built a refinery in the United States in 40 years! Apart from anything else, this means that we have to import refined gas as well as actual oil.
Just this week an envrionmentalist group has filed yet another lawsuit - this time preventing the State of Indiana and BP from expanding an existing refinery - even though the expanded facility meets or exceeds state and federal pollution regulations and even though it will result in an overall reduction in air emissions!
The Natural Resources Defense … (23 comments)

Immigration, language and our history - 07/10/08 11:53 AM
I'm sure by now you all heard Obama say this: "We live in a global economy. And, you know, I don't understand when people are going around worrying about, 'We need to have English- only.' They want to pass a law, 'We want English-only'... Now, I agree that immigrants should learn English. I agree with that. But understand this. Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English - they'll learn English - you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish. You should be thinking about, how can your child become bilingual. We should have every child speaking more … (21 comments)

Just how low will it go? - 07/08/08 01:16 PM
If you've been paying attention, then what follows here will not come as a surprise to you. If however, you have not been watching then you will be shocked to discover that for the first time in its history, the country's approval rating of the United States Congress has fallen to SINGLE FIGURES.
Yes just 9% - NINE PER CENT - of the population thinks Congress is doing an excellent or a good job.
While these figures have been falling steadilysince the democrats took control a couple of years ago, no one really could have foreseen just how bad it was … (66 comments)

Is this the weirdest political poll you've ever seen? - 07/08/08 09:40 AM
This might just be the weirdest election poll I have ever seen.
We've all seen and heard of the ones that talk about how many white people plan to vote this way and how many black people vote that way. Personally I always hate those things because they are divisive.
In fact they are just as divisive as affirmative action; "insert your own word" caucus groups in Congress or anywhere else for that matter.
But now someone came up with an idea. Let's see where the pet owners of America plan to cast their votes in November.
Who thinks of this … (44 comments)

My one legged Marine buddy was promoted today! - 07/04/08 06:24 PM

Regular readers of my blog may well remember the US Marine I wrote about in The truth from the front lines in Iraq William "Spanky" Gibson is the first member of the military in the entire history of the United States who returned to a combat zone after having an above the knee amputation. And he volunteered!
Well today during a regular exchange of e-mail, Spanky wrote to tell me that he is no longer a Gunnery Sergeant. No sir! My friend has been promoted to Master Sergeant of Marines - very well deserved I might add, and what better day … (21 comments)

Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue! - 07/04/08 09:54 AM
As we fire up the grills today and wait for darkness to descend so we can look to the night sky for all those impressive fireworks, please spare a thought for all of those throughout our history who have made this possible.
Without these brave men and women being prepared to lay down their very lives in the name of freedom, then the United States of America would not exist today and there would be no celebration.
From me to them - a personal thank you. You are indeed my heroes and I thank all for your service and I … (18 comments)

We must all protect our heritage! - 07/03/08 03:58 PM

Yesterday I wrote a blog - The rambling views of an anti-American moron! - but I think I made a mistake. Instead of complaining about Chris Satullo and calling him an anti-American moron, I should have done what I was trained to do as a journalist - edited it for him!
And so here is the article that SHOULD have appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The potential for a not so glorious Fourth
By Chris Satullo - edited by Simon Conway.
If we are not careful, then 12 months from now we will be putting the fireworks in storage, canceling … (53 comments)

The rambling views of an anti-American moron! - 07/02/08 01:55 PM

Isn't freedom of speech a wonderful thing? It allows us to express the most moronic sentiments for the world to see. But there is another freedom we have as well - freedom to cancel our subscriptions to a newspaper that allowed this garbage to be printed. Freedom never to buy that newspaper again if we don't happen to have a subscription to it.
We also have the freedom to call in to speak to the editor and freedom to let the other local media know exactly what we think.
I am talking about Chris Satullo- a Philadelphia Inquirer Columnist - … (28 comments)

God Bless America! - 07/02/08 09:26 AM
It was indeed July 2 and not July 4 when the declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 and so today I am able to say "Happy Birthday" to my new home.
Irving Berlin once said that, "a patriotic song is an emotion and you must not embarrass an audience with it, or they will hate your guts." This philosophy made him one of America's most outstanding writers of patriotic songs from World War I through World War II.
It is perhaps fitting that this greatest of all patriotic songs was written by the son of Jewish immigrants, who came … (9 comments)
