For five years my way of giving back to my community has been to coach High School tennis. I have often said it is the most rewarding three months of my year. My teams have always done well, but this year we have done exceptionally well.

 
Last week and for the first time since 1999, both the boys and girls Dr Phillips High School teams won the Metro Conference Titles - going through the season unbeaten against Metro competition.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist has refused to face the voters. Specifically the Republican voters who get to choose between him and former Speaker Marco Rubio at the Senate Primary next year.
Let me explain. Last time I was filling in for Bud Hedinger on 540 WFLA, Speaker Rubio was a guest on the show. At the end of that interview I challenged the Speaker to come back to 540 WITH the Governor for a special program - some might call it debate - and take questions posed by the listeners. The Speaker agreed immediately.

As those of you who know me will already be aware, I have been doing more and more radio recently. The main thing has been sitting in for the regular breakfast show host on 540 WFLA when he is on vacation or off sick or something.

Pictured over on the right here is Master Sergeant of Marines William "Spanky" Gibson, saluting the Stars and Stripes on Board (he's a Marine folks) Camp Fallujah in Iraq. The picture was taken on October 20 of this year.

Monday will mark the third anniversary of my father-in-law's death. He and I shared a very special bond - unusual considering how short a time we actually knew each other.
His passing was brought into sharp focus again for me this week as on Thursday my mother-in-law had a heart attack. I thought about the timing of it a lot and wondered if he was calling her - they were married for more than 50 years.

Tomorrow marks seven years since those vicious and cowardly attacks against our nation by those who seek to destroy us - and if they can't destroy us, then to kill as many of us as possible.

Actually my very first vote was in 1978 - the first time I was able to, but on August 26th, I will be voting for the first time here in the United States as a citizen of this great land.
It was really very exciting to receive my sample ballot in the mail yesterday and to go through my choices for the vote on the 26th.
I guess this was the first time I really felt that I was a true citizen of America.

Once in a while you will come across something that will stop you dead in your tracks. This morning I was working from home when my wife called out to me to come to the TV. There on the Today Show was this incredible story of Christian the Lion.
If you've already seen this, you won't mind seeing it again. If you've never seen it, goosebumps and possibly tears are on the way!
I don't think I've ever seen anything even close to this - and I love the message at the end as well. Enjoy my friends

I've just returned from seeing the "Glenn Beck - Unelectable 08" tour right here in Orlando. Glenn (yes the picture is of me and Glenn last Christmas) was actually live in Dallas, Texas tonight, but the show was beamed to 350 movie theatres across the country live and in living high def color!

You know I kind of feel alone in this world when these days come around. More than a quarter of a century since my mom was alive and six years since my dad passed.
I guess like a lot of kids, I didn't really appreciate my dad when I was a kid. He worked very hard and I basically didn't see him until I was already in bed on weeknights and Saturdays. Sunday - his only day off - he was tired and my memory tells me that I didn't get to spend much time with him.

The mail arrived today as usual - but this time, the letter I have been waiting for over the last couple of weeks has finally arrived. I have the date for my oath taking ceremony - Thursday May 22 - after which I will officially be a United States Citizen. I am truly proud.
