simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: New blog on radio station website - 09/24/09 02:18 AM
As those of you who know me will already be aware, I have been doing more and more radio recently. The main thing has been sitting in for the regular breakfast show host on 540 WFLA when he is on vacation or off sick or something.
Well now the radio station has decided to raise my profile. In pursuit of this goal, it has given me a blog on their website. You can check it out at http://www.540wfla.com/pages/simon_conway.html and don't forget to click on the RSS Feed at the bottom of the page!

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Always remember that freedom is not free - a tribute to our servicemen and women - 05/25/09 02:13 PM

So here we are on Memorial Day Weekend and we have service men and women in harms way once again.
These are special people. I would say they are wired differently to the rest of us, but the evidence just doesn't back that up. Take Flight 93 on nine eleven as a perfect example. Or the soldiers, sailors and airmen of World War II. It is in us all. We just need to find it.
The picture on the right is of my friend and national hero, Master Sergeant of Marines, William "Spanky" Gibson, who is the first ever member … (32 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Spanky to be a part of greatest swim in the history of mankind! - 04/15/09 09:49 AM
I have written many times about my friend, Master Sergeant of Marines, William "Spanky" Gibson. You can read his story here and then you can read about his promotion here and you can even read about the truth from the front lines of Iraq right here. And if all of that isn't enough for you, then you can read my personal story of how Spanky chose to honor me.
Well now Spanky, who has been working in DC on a Congressional Fellowship (something usually reserved for those with the rank of Captain and above) is at it again. Not content with currently training … (23 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: My wish - 03/19/09 06:21 AM
I am grateful to a very close friend of mine for sending this to me today. I have already sent it on to my adult daughters with much love.
But it is truly inspiring and so i thought I'd share it with you people as well - truly my wish for all of you.
Enjoy

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Dear Diary...my passion is.....my kids! - 02/19/09 12:48 PM
Right now I am in Tallahassee, FL  on a fact-finding mission with my youngest daughter (pictured on the right here outside Bobby Bowden Field at Florida State University). I am so proud of both of my girls and yet each and every day they find new ways to impress me.
Rachel just turned 18. We are currently trying to decide which college she should attend and we are blessed with many choices.
You see Rachel got into every university she applied for - including the three toughest ones in the State! So far three schools have offered her scholarships of one sort or another … (21 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Is the Orlando market showing signs of recovery? - 01/12/09 03:27 AM

It is certainly true that a single month's numbers should never be looked at in isolation, but today the December 2008 numbers for Orlando housing were released and while they continue to show the trend of slow recovery, the biggest three numbers - inventory, under contract and closed sales - have all shown dramatic improvements over 12 months ago.
It has long been thought that a ballanced market in the Orlando area has meant around 7,000 homes for sale. At its peak, we had more than 26,000 in Orange and Seminole counties and for the past 12 months we have … (8 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: A brief history of Christmas - 12/18/08 05:37 AM
My buddy Hugh Krone sent out an e-mail recently asking for REAL Christmas posts for his group - Walking by Faith in the Rain. So not wanting to be the one person who let him down, I went in search of video. Couldn't find any!
And then a blinding flash of light and a few claps of thunder later, I suddenly remembered that my old buddy Glenn Beck once produced "A brief history of Christmas" in cartoon form.
This was perfect, I thought and so with a smile on my face and a dig in Hugh's ribs, I present … (9 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Welcome home soldier! - 12/18/08 05:14 AM
I just love this - and I know you will too. This is how a couple of dogs greeted "daddy" after he had been away from home for 14 months!
What a wonderful piece just in time for the Holidays! I have to confess that I'm a little surprised that they remembered him in this way after he had been away for so long, but I do know that this will put a huge smile on your faces.
Dogs = pure and simplistic love. I think they are also saying "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!" Enjoy!

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Take the time to thank a hero - 12/16/08 07:55 AM
As Christmas approaches, now is the time to think about those who continue to sacrifice to ensure that you get to have the freedom to celebrate and if you are so inclined, to pray to your god.
Last year there was a campaign to send greetings cards to those undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Hospital. That campaign ran into problems when the powers in charge of the facility decided not to pass on cards to servicemen and women without names.
To get around that this year, a website has been created where you can leave your message of gratitude for those heroes … (10 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Forecasters predict active 2009 hurricane season - 12/10/08 03:12 PM
They've been wrong over and over again, but it does not deter the Hurricane forecasters coming out again - just two weeks after the end of the 2008 season in which they were pretty much wrong and predicting another torrid time for Florida in 2009! Now all of this would be OK if it didn't have a direct effect on our pockets, but dire predictions play right into the hands of the insurance companies who just love to raise our rates. And of course higher insurance rates also have a direct effect on housing.
Despite all of this we buy into … (8 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Printing Money is always a bad idea - 12/04/08 05:49 AM
Right now we have fallen through the looking glass. The United States Government is promising Trillions of Dollars in bail outs and so-called stimulus packages to avoid something that scares them to death - DEFLATION!  Once upon a time all western governments agreed that the most important thing to a nation's economy was to keep inflation low and under control. And so it is a shock to discover that right now these same nations and their top financial advisers are trying to find ways to create inflation and to avoid something that REALLY scares them - DEFLATION.
Personally I think that … (20 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Another quiet hurricane season ends in Florida - Insurance rates to go UP! - 12/02/08 01:17 AM
Back in 2004, Florida was hit by three hurricanes in six weeks. It was a freak of nature! Central Florida had not had a direct hit for 40 years before that.
In 2005 there was one major storm - again, nothing in Central Florida. In 2006 and 2007 there was nothing at all.
Each time, rates went up. Now the 2008 season has come to an end and Florida was hit by Tropical Storm Fay which certainly caused some flooding, but overall another quiet season - the third one in a row.
And so the insurance companies are once again telling … (8 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: You MUST protect your credit - and here's why! - 11/13/08 07:46 AM
What follows is a true story. In fact it really only just ended today and I am lucky because it could have taken months to even know there was a problem. So what I am about to tell you is in regards to my own personal CREDIT CRISIS and how I resolved it and what you can do to ensure it does not happen to you.
First you need to know some things about me. I have excellent credit - my score being north of 800. This does not happen by accident. It takes years of faithfully paying on time and … (46 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: The long and winding road - to 300,000 points! - 11/10/08 01:12 AM
I woke up this morning to discover I'd gone through the magical 300,000 point barrier. Amazingly, it is still possible to breathe here!
It has in fact, come much sooner than I thought it would. And what a journey it has been! There have been Localism posts including some features, stories about my family, competition entries and even a victory and, of course, politics.
So many people say you should not post about politics - but I disagree. I think it is extremely important that your clients know who you are. That's why there are stories about my family; that's … (38 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Fannie Mae forgives loan for woman who shot herself! - 10/06/08 05:32 AM
Well now we know how to get out of that foreclosure! Simply take a gun and shoot yourself in the chest and before you know it, Fannie Mae will forgive your loan completely!
This is the message being sent to those facing foreclosure by the mortgage giant today as it did indeed act in precisely this way.
According to CNN, Addie Polk, 90 (yes - NINE ZERO), of Akron, Ohio, became a symbol of the nation's home mortgage crisis when she was hospitalized after shooting herself at least twice in the upper body last week.
On Friday, Fannie Mae spokesman Brian … (33 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Bend over America! - 10/01/08 04:17 PM
So far the market doesn't like it with futures showing losses across the board. That to me is minor as I feel we have slipped through the looking glass today.
I tried to contact both Florida Senators this morning. The Republican one had a full mail box. The Democrat one had a constantly busy line. I e-mailed them both.
And much to my surprise tonight it was the Democrat Bill Nelson who voted "NO" while the Republican Mel Martinez who voted to put you and me on the hook for the criminal goings on that have created this crisis.
So while … (14 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: The Solution to the financial crisis - at the bargain price of $59.5bn! - 09/24/08 03:11 PM
It's hard to believe that me of all people is blogging about this, but something came across my desk today that in the changed circumstances we find ourselves in makes perfect sense.
Mortgages would be paid off; stagnant real estate would be bought up; the economy would receive a boost the likes of which it has never seen before and Americans would actually start to save money!
So first of all forget about socialism and remember we are the home of democratic capitalism. A cornerstone of that is smaller Government and low taxes. Once we forget who we are then there … (24 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Ford to release 65MPG car - in Europe! - 09/24/08 06:49 AM
The Ford Motor Company has developed a car that will get 65 miles per gallon - BUT it will not be released in the USA as Ford does not think there is a market here.
The car - which goes on sale in Europe in November - Ford's 2009 Fiesta ECOnetic - seats five, comes with navigation and would clearly run rings around anything that Toyota or Honda are selling, but there is a problem.
We know it's an awesome vehicle," says Ford America President Mark Fields. "But there are business reasons why we can't sell it in the U.S." The … (19 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: The Government gets it right! - 09/16/08 06:39 AM
Words I rarely feel comfortable saying, but credit (no pun intended) where credit is due. You see the Federal Government has just announced that it will not pay the ousted chief executives of mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac up to $24 million in exit packages.
Those golden payouts always make my blood boil. "You failed - here's millions of Dollars to say thanks for failing". I have no doubt that there will be some legal fall out but frankly I don't care!
According to AP, representatives of both Syron (Freddie) and Mudd (Fannie) declined to comment Monday morning. Mudd received … (13 comments)

simon conway selling homes in orlando and windermere: Wall Street - it's happened before and it will happen again - 09/15/08 02:01 AM
Wall Street woke up this morning to discover that two of it's most famous residents have bitten the dust.
Lehman Brothers, burdened by $60 billion in real-estate holdings, filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court after attempts to rescue the 158-year-old firm failed. Bank of America Corp. said it is snapping up Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. in a $50 billion all-stock transaction.
But this is nothing new. We have seen it before and we will see it again. We all know that greed is at the heart of it and that Wall Street is in fact just … (16 comments)
