As a member of both the Florida Cattlemen Association and Okeechobee's Main Street, I can highly recommend a very memorable day coming this Saturday.  The Okeechobee Cattlemen Association and Okeechobee Main Street are celebrating the fourth annual National Day of the American Cowboy, which commemorates the impact the cowboys and cowgirls have had in building our country. Activities begin with a cattle drive at 10 a.m. when local ranchers will carry flags with their brands as they drive about 50 head of cattle from Flagler Park to the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center. Polk County Manager proposing to eliminate Agriculture Extension Program. - 07/10/08 04:36 AM
 
 
Tampabays 10 Kathryn Bursch just did a story on  Polk County Extension, in an effort to trim $27 million from the county budget, the county manager has proposed eliminating the entire budget for the Polk County Cooperative Extension Service. The proposed cuts total more than a half-million dollars. The Polk County Farm Bureau and others in the agriculture community are now organizing and trying to convince county commissioners to save the Extension Service. Commissioners will have the final say on Polk Priorities.
