The Alanson Swing Bridge is currently under repair.  Although I don't have any details regarding the project, the repairs appear to be extensive in scope.  If any readers have more information, please feel free to comment.  Information regarding this interesting attraction is provided below, courtesy of Ferris State University.

Crooked River Lock Repairs Underway - 04/14/07 12:31 AM
Work has slowly begun to repair the Crooked River Lock in Alanson, which connects Pickerel and Crooked Lakes with the rest of the Inland Waterway.  The Crooked River Lock is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.  After threats to shut down the lock this year due to lack of funding for necessary repairs, local residents and businesspeople have been lobbying our legislators in Lansing and Washington to find a solution to ensure that the lock remains open to navigation.

Michigan State - 2007 NCAA Div. I Men's Ice Hockey Champions! - 04/07/07 09:13 PM

Congratulations to the Michigan State University Spartans on their third NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey National Championship!  The Spartans came from behind to beat Boston College 3-1 at the Frozen Four held in St. Louis.  The last time Michigan State won the national championship, in 1986, yours truly was a freshman season ticket holder.  Go Spartans!

Continental Structural Plastics Closing Petoskey Plant - 04/03/07 09:58 PM
Both the Petoskey and Michigan economies suffered yet another kick to the stomach when Continental Structural Plastics recently announced that it would be closing its Petoskey factory, which currently employs approximately 100 workers.  According to company vice president Tom Hillborn, "It's unfortunate but the auto industry in Michigan is moving south and our government in Lansing hasn't ben able to stop this trend."
