Well, this came as a bit of a surprise. I love it here in Sandpoint but...#1 ski town in the U.S.? The folks at Rand McNally really do love us. I guess I can just sit back now and fend off the onslaught of buyers hoping to be a part of this bonanza. I'm thinking that may not happen but our notoriety certainly can't hurt business. The great part of this is our geographical location...Sandpoint is located in a narrow valley between Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirk Mountains. People often ask me, "How do you like working on the mountain? What's it like in the summer?" My reply? "This is THE greatest place to work...and even better to play!" It's true, Schweitzer had an EPIC snow year with some of the best powder skiing The Rockies have ever seen but summer can be almost as exhilerating! The weekend music festivals are fast approaching. It has not been a "perfect Spring" for most of us this year...Sandpoint included. It was nice to wake up this morning to a real Spring day! After 3 hours of tennis this morning, one hour devoted to real estate and a few hours working in the yard...this is how the day ended. A "Corona Moment". It doesn't get much better. THANKFUL THURSDAY! SNOWBIRDS...AVERT YOUR GAZE! Looks like we'll get our Thanksgiving opening this year at Schweitzer Mountain...and it is still coming down! The forecast is for SNOW every day for the next 5 days. Nothing like a little "white stuff" to spur condo sales!

DO NOT move to SANDPOINT! I have coveted a life in Sandpoint, Idaho ever since I discovered this mountain town in the early 70's. Life's twists and turns did not allow me to actually move here full-time until 2005. I had many valid reasons for delaying the inevitable and I stand by them. One of the big reasons, however, was that I was worried Sandpoint wasn't ready for me. I'm a tennis player. I have been playing year around (indoors and outdoors) for the last thirty years. SANDPOINT, IDAHO QUARTERLY MARKET TRENDS Here's a look at what happened in Sandpoint, Idaho in the third quarter (Bonner County). I like the fact I can make some comparisons between the current quarter and the 2009 second quarter report and the third quarter in 2008.
This was actually not a bad quarter for Sandpoint homes (relative to the general state of the economy). We have seen an 11% increase in the number of homes sold and basically unchanged average sales price since the same time last year. As I was driving up Schweitzer Mountain this morning, heading to my office in the Village, I noticed at about the 3,000 foot elevation the rain that has been invading the Sandpoint Valley below was turning a little slushy. Sandpoint is ROCKIN' again this summer. It seems like the 4th is the real kick-off each year. I am sitting up at SCHWEITZER MOUNTAIN in the COLDWELL BANKER RESORT REALTY office enjoying the beautiful weather while dozens of SANDPOINT locals wander by mingling with the hundreds of tourists who have shown up to enjoy this incredible weather (sunny, 80 degrees with low humidity). It doesn't hurt that, yet, another wedding is on tap for this afternoon at the top of the Great Escape chairlift. That makes for quite an eclectic scene.
