With easy to use cameras like the flip cam, iphones, and viral marketing there is no doubt that if you aren't using video to sell your product you will lose out. Personally I love video, because it gives me a chance to display myself a bit more and put my voice out there, and since I'm in Costa Rica, it helps that I have amazing scenery and properties to show off. It's been amazing to see the amount of people pouring in for the ISA Billabong Surf Championships here in Hermosa/Jaco, Costa Rica. This weekend will be absolutely packed, as we go into the finals of the competition. I've been extremely proud and impressed on how well the community has done in hosting the event If anyone had seen Jaco just 5-6 years ago they would be absolutely amazed that we are now capable of handling such a large event with tens of thousands of people. Closest Beach to the Capital of San Jose to get Closer

Already the closest beach to the capital of San Jose, Jaco Beach continues to grow into one of the biggest tourist destinations in Central America. Perhaps the only drag factor slowing Jaco’s impressive development in recent years has been the zig-zag country highway that connects it to the airport and capital.

That will soon change, with a new highway connecting Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, to the coast. The 49-mile Caldera toll-way is one of the most important developments in Costa Rica. Once finished, it will take barely one hour to go from San Jose or the international airport to Jaco.

Crews have been at work for months excavating, widening bridges, updating drainage, and paving from the highway’s origin near the Caldera port on the Pacific, through the mountain range to the edge of San Jose.

The $230 million highway, ranking as one of Costa Rica’s largest infrastructure projects ever, is being financed by Caja Madrid and Central American Bank of Economic Integration (BCIE). According to Autopistas del Sol (Sun Highways), the concessionaire in charge of the Project, the highway will feature QuickPass sensors for electronic toll payment.

I've always felt that having 3.5 million people two hours away in San Jose makes Jaco the most sustainable beach in Costa Rica. Once the highway is complete it is clear that Jaco will become more and more of a quick getaway for those people in the city, only bolstering it's growth and development even more.

World's Best Surfers Coming Soon

We are just a couple weeks away from the Billabong ISA World Surfing Championships. Costa Rica is getting ready for the biggest surfing championship in history held in Central American coasts. One of the most important and traditional global surfing events, the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games will take place from August 1-8 in the perfect waves of Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica. This will be the first time that a Central American country will receive the best surfers from around the world.

The chosen place for the event will be the strong and consistent waves of Playa Hermosa, two hours away from the capital city, San José, and five minutes away from the famous surf town of Jacó. Waves are consistent at Playa Hermosa, going from one foot to six with perfect barrels. Even better, the dates were chosen according to the best season at Hermosa, because of the great conditions of the southern swells during this part of the year.

Obviously this is a very big deal for the central pacific region and all of Costa Rica. If you are want to see some incredible surf skills you might want to make plans now, or you can just see some of the country's best surfers in the video below.

Happiest Place in the World!

According to an independent research group in Britain, a recent study found Costa Rica is the happiest place in the world.

The study uses a "Happy Planet Index," which seeks countries with the most content people.

"Costa Ricans report the highest life satisfaction in the world and have the second-highest average life expectancy of the new world (second to Canada)," the organization said in a statement.

Living the Life

One of my favorite parts of living here in Jaco Beach, Costa Rica are my walks to the gym. I try to alternate from walking along the beach and going through the center of town. It was just the other day I was appreciating how lucky I am to be living in Paradise, and how great this place is for me and my wife. I had thought about living in other places in Costa Rica, but in no other spot could I find such a perfect location. Here in Jaco I have just enough restaurants, bars and shopping to keep me from getting bored. If I want to go to some secluded beach with my wife I'm just minutes away in any direction and if I have a craving to go to dinner and a movie in the city, I'm just an hour and a half away to the capital of San Jose. Jaco is a great community that has a nice mix of tourists, retirees, part-time residents and people who go back and forth from San Jose. Some people might prefer other parts of Costa Rica, but for full time residence I couldnt imagine being anywhere else.
