Legendary 4th at Lenox Square Mall Atlanta’s Lenox Square is home to the Southeast’s largest celebration, attracting more than 200,000 people annually. Lenox Square’s annual event is patriotic fun with family-friendly live musical entertainment on the mall’s outdoor main stage. Sandy Springs residents mark your calendar for the public meeting on the Northridge/GA 400 Project. On December 5, 2011, the Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house concerning the proposed road improvements at SR 400/US 19 and CR 145/Northridge Road. The hearing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at the City of Sandy Springs City Hall, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500, Sandy Springs, Ga 30350. Great news for Sandy Springs fire stations 1 and 2 as they are set for some safety improvements. The city’s fire rescue service has received the Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and they have decided to use the money by installing sprinkler systems in these two stations. Now the city’s firefighters will be better protected at work, allowing them to perform their duties with peace of mind. The award period of this grant is February 18, 2011 to February 17, 2012, with approved amounts of $49,500 for station 1 and $60,500 for station 2. A program (1 comments)

Have you heard about Hot-In-Place Recycling? With the new asphalt pavement preservation that the City of Sandy Springs utilizes, you have yet one more reason to be proud to call Sandy Springs home. Considering all of the benefits of this technique it is a wonder that Sandy Springs is the first place in the southeastern US to begin the project, which is called Hot-In-Place Recycling. Sandy Springs is once again proving to be on the cutting edge of technology and safety by being the first city in Georgia to purchase and use Smart911. Smart911 is free to residents and makes placing an emergency call much more efficient and effective. With Smart911, residents are able to enter critical information they want to make available during an emergency through a secure website. Whatever information is submitted through the site is then automatically delivered to the 9-1-1 operator and to emergency responders when a 9-1-1 call is placed. City officials are hoping that one day Sandy Springs will indeed become a college town. Now, when we say “college town” we are not referring to places like Athens, GA where the whole city revolves around one of the state’s largest universities. No, in Sandy Springs’ case, the city will welcome a satellite campus for Gwinnett Technical College. In a public town meeting held on January 18, 2011, Mayor Eva Galambos and other city officials approved a proposal to bid for the new campus with a 4 – 3 vote. Hats off to the Sandy Springs Fire Department as American City & County has deemed them one of the nation’s 2010 “America’s Crown Communities.” The magazine’s annual rankings recognize the best local governments are based on nominations submitted by readers and city and county officials. Sandy Springs Fire Rescue was recognized for being a Heart Safe City. One thing that significantly contributed to this award is the fact that all personnel in the Fire Department are trained in CPR and AED.
