It was simply gorgeous this week. The kind of weather than makes people want to buy property so they can be here year round. Bright blue skies, a few puffy clouds and a little bit of coolness to the trades. Great combo. If the weather keeps up like this, we’re sure to have a great real estate year – people won’t be able to help themselves. I’m late with the blog this week because I had the pleasure of spending the weekend up in one of the Kokee Lodge cabins, where there is NO internet or phone service. That’s the first time I can remember in a long time that I have simply been unable to send and receive. We actually took time to enjoy a fire in the cabin stove every night, read books and hike by day. I’ll go into the Alaka’i Swamp Trail hike (and the spectacular view at the end) another time. Welcome to the first blog post of 2012. Judging from the number of units that went into escrow, it looks like were off to a good start. Short sales and foreclosures across the Island continue to generate interest amoung buyers while sellers are finding price reductions are the secret to success.
Some of these properties are selling for half than what they did at the height of the market and others are even more heavily discounted. I was amazed to see a house on Kapaka (Princeville Ag) that last sold last week for $1.2M cash. This house caught my attention … (0 comments)

Hau’ole Makahiki Hou as we say here in the Islands. The first day of the year got off to a somewhat slow start as the electricity went off around 3:30 AM and was still off at 10:30 AM when I went out for a walk. I called KIUC (electric company) because my walking partner, who lives in a condo around the corner, was up and running after experiencing a brief blackout in the early morning hours.
