Even though I like my downtown Colorado Springs home, I enjoy spending time out in Woodland Park, Colorado.  The elevation is higher there, so the temperatures run about 10 degrees cooler than Colorado Springs.  Plus, Woodland Park is a very pretty area and the drive to and from Woodland Park is spectacular. 
Since Woodland Park is only 18 miles to the west of Colorado Springs, it is a very easy drive.   I frequently stop at a little convenience store/liquor store on HWY 24, the name of which I can't recall, for a cup of coffee.   Maybe if I wasn't in the … (17 comments)

Fraud and REO’s ~ there’s a rash of it hitting Raleigh NC - public BEWARE - 07/14/11 11:52 PM
In the post below, Pam and Lee share an experience where a rash of REO related fraud has hit the Raleigh NC area.   Even though I have a fraud investigation background, I wouldn't have predicted this particular scheme.  It's certainly not something they taught us about in school.  So, PLEASE read the artcile below.   
The key to preventing and/or minimizing the effects of these types of frauds is awareness and early detection.

Can a Walmart Be Beautiful? - 07/13/11 06:20 PM
Have you ever seen a Walmart that was so beautiful that you stopped to take a picture?  Let's face it, most Walmarts and other box stores are not particularly attractive.  Functional...yes.  Attractive.....not really. 
The Walmart in Woodland Park is an exception.   Woodland Park is a small, flourishing city located 18 miles to the west of Colorado Springs in Teller County.

 
This picture was taken at sunrise.  As result, some of the special features are not as noticeable.  This Walmart's features include the statue in the front, split rail fencing, very nice landscaping, decorative light fixtures in the parking lots, … (18 comments)

Wildfires in Colorado Springs - 07/04/11 06:35 PM
If you are driving on I25, you might notice the smoke that can be seen on the West side of Colorado Springs.   The smoke is coming from a couple of wildfires that are burning in Bear Creek Canyon.   Air support can be seen flying in the area. 

This picture was taken from I25 - Nevada Exit.  
News First 5 reported, "Crews from Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, El Paso County and U.S. Forest Service are responding to two fires in the area of High Drive and Gold Camp Road."
