What Women Want - 04/30/12 08:31 PM
What do women want?  How is this relevant to real estate?  Well, if you are asking how this is relevant to real estate, maybe you should simply move on to the next post.  You are probably hopeless.

What Women Want, the romantic comedy with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, does a wonderful job exploring this question.    The movie is funny in that it is so true.   Mel Gibson’s character is in advertising and the company he works for realizes that it needs market to women.    As a female, I found it hilarious watching Mel Gibson shaving his legs and … (15 comments)

Thoughts on the Luxury of Simplicity: Can Simple be Luxurious? - 04/24/12 05:14 AM
Last week, I had the opportunity to visit a wonderful home on a horse property that was luxurious due to its simplicity. Western simplicity.  Afterwards, I found myself asking - can simple really be luxurious?
I think so.

According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, luxury is defined as:
1.        A condition of abundance or great ease and comfort.
2.       Something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary.
3.       An indulgence in something that provides pleasure, satisfaction or ease.

Simple, less ornate, buildings and homes compliment the beauty of the outdoors.

Photo Essay: Country Pets - 04/23/12 08:05 PM
I would like to share a few of the animal photographs that I have taken this month.
I am entering this post as part of the Pet Project contest.
The attached video unfortunately highlights the need for a month to be designated as Prevention of Cruelty to Animals month. It is sad and graphic. It tells the story behind the two horses in my first photograph.
Thank you to everyone that has participated in the Active Rain Pet Project contest.  I believe it has done a wonderful job of highlighting the importance of looking out for the animals in our midst.

Dropping Pets Off at a Ranch or Horse Boarding Stable: Don't - 04/23/12 04:47 PM
Pets.  We love them.  They make us smile.  They make us laugh.  They make us cry sometimes.   They can be so loveable.  Sometimes unforeseen circumstances come up that would cause a person to be unable to keep their pet.  Unfortunately, it has happened to me before.  What happens if you can't find a new home for your pet?

Please do not dump your pet on the side of the road or at the entrance to someone’s ranch or horse boarding stable.

Just because someone has a ranch or stable does not mean that they will be able to care for another cat … (9 comments)

Cat in Charge of Rodent Control - 04/23/12 02:23 PM
Do you ever have problems with mice or rats?  Most of us that live out in the country do.  That is just one of the things that go along with living out in the country.    Cats are one of the very best, natural ways of controlling the rodent population.   I've always felt that  every barn needs at least one cat.    Cats are also good at reducing the number of birds that want to roost in your barn.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, which covers the Colorado Springs area, has a program called "Barn Cat Buddies."  Through this … (18 comments)

Easter Chicks - Good Idea or Bad Idea? - 04/04/12 01:51 PM
Easter chicks, baby ducks, little bunnies. Chances are good that your local feed store has some in stock. The pictures below were taken with my cell phone at the Big R store in Fountain, CO.  Although my pictures are somewhat fuzzy, little chicks, ducks, baby geese and bunnies are undeniably VERY cute.
Should you buy a few? Well, it depends on why you really want the chicks.

Do you think they would make a great Easter gift?   This is a very, very BAD idea.  Don't buy live chicks.  Go find a stuffed animal or something else.
If you … (10 comments)
