Miss Prissy had babies...sweet little things! I met Todd Clark, a fellow Rainer and his wonderful family when he drove from Oregon to pick up Athena, one of the babes, a highlight for sure!

Bacon, the proud father spent a lot of time teaching the young ones HOW to stay cool in … (25 comments)

10 Ways To Be Successful in 2010...It's UP TO YOU! - 12/28/09 09:36 AM

Successful real estate transactions are an exciting and viable part of business. A homeowner sells their property and a homebuyer purchases the home they want at a good price and we, as residential real estate professionals, are rewarded for our efforts.
The following are some guidelines for goal-setting that have helped me in the past and will continue to be my guide for the coming New Year as well.
Set realistic goals that are reachable...it's okay to go high as long as they're attainable! Put your list of goals in a highly visible location you will see it several times a day … (45 comments)

Thankful Thursdays: Holiday Greetings From A Southern Utah Snowman! And Us, Of Course! - 12/24/09 09:23 AM

Since we generally do not get a White Christmas, we decided to build a snowman made of the finest, natural material that is found all over southern Utah and use that in the picture for our Christmas card.
My husband gathered three tumbleweeds, a small, medium and large size He spray painted them all white with a water based paint Planted a 4 foot post into the ground and stacked the tumbleweeds, one on top of the other I grabbed a red scarf and hat from my bedroom The boys cut squares from black construction paper and glued them in place  A carrot … (26 comments)

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): It's Almost T-shirt Weather in Southern Utah! - 12/23/09 09:02 AM

One of the reasons I love living in southern Utah is...
When it's snowing everywhere around us (look in the background), we still have mild temperatures! My boys play outside year 'round and enjoy the fact they do not have to get bundled up to do so. We have 4 reservoirs within a half hour's drive, one less than a mile so it's easy to pack a few poles and lunch and get some fishing in!
Southern Utah is a great place to live, work AND play in a t-shirt if you prefer!

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Some Things Just Need To be Overlooked! - 12/20/09 06:06 PM

We love to travel to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon because of its beauty and never-ending views. There are two lookout points, one on the left side and one on the right side of the lodge, where you're able to walk out to get an even better outlook of the mountain vistas and valleys. Dine in the lodge's restaurant while enjoying the amazing panoramic landscape and shop for trinkets and souvenirs in the gift shop!
There are many, many hiking trails throughout the area that are perfect for a short jaunt to see more of the surrounding area. Consider the … (23 comments)

Are You Like Pegleg? - 12/15/09 03:35 PM

When I was a young girl, I had a hamster that was missing a leg, I thought it was only appropriate to name him Pegleg.
Several times a day, Pegleg would get going on that exercise wheel, faster and faster he'd go-he'd be humming along and all of a sudden he would miss with that little stub, and go tumbling head-over-tail-over-head-over-tail until finally he'd stop, out of breath, get back up and do it again, always with the same results!
Despite the setback due to the missing leg, he did not let that get in the way of his goal to get … (19 comments)

Slow down...get there safely, why risk it?! - 12/14/09 04:15 PM

After witnessing 2 rollovers this morning on the way to St. George to take my two boys to school, one thing comes to mind...Slow Down! The roads had turned icy due to low temperatures after it rained all throughout the weekend.
Here are a few tips to stay safe in winter conditions:
Leave your house a little earlier to avoid rushing Make sure your tires are in good shape  Adjust your speed to weather and road conditions Avoid following the vehicle in front of you too closely Keep your eyes on the road Get there safely! I'm looking forward to the … (15 comments)

Speechless Sunday (almost!): A Timeless Southern Utah Christmas Scene - 12/13/09 02:21 PM

As long as I have lived in southern Utah, one of my favorite Christmas scene's is on Main Street in St. George at the Doc's Book Loft, a book store that is also serves as a personal residence. Every year, with care, the Christmas Nativity scene is put up with care and greets everyone who passes by. This is one of the highlights of the Holiday Season for me.
Some of the reasons I love living in a small community are the little things that local residents or businesses do to enhance special occasions. From the block of houses who compete against … (13 comments)

Hey! If Rudolph can't make it, I might consider it! - 12/11/09 06:12 PM

Reindeer Facts
Usually only male deer have antlers. Both male and female reindeer have antlers. Reindeer have their antlers for several months; then they fall off. New ones grow back later. Reindeer live where it is cold and snowy. They have special fur that keeps them warm. Next to their skin, reindeer have thick, woolly fur. During the summer, the fur thins out so the reindeer will be cooler. Reindeer have hooves that spread out when they walk on them. They are used to find food beneath the snow. Reindeer travel in large herds from place to place to find … (26 comments)

When You Receive, It's Important To Give Back! And It Feels Good Too! - 12/08/09 10:30 AM

When we moved to southern Utah in September of 1996, I was single with 2 boys, one and three years of age. My one year old, Spensyr had emergency lung surgery in August, just after his 1st birthday due to a life threatening virus that settled in his lungs. This was the first time as a parent that I felt utterly helpless because there was nothing I could do for my little boy except be there to comfort him! I accepted a job in late October after being out-of-work for several months to take care of him.
Christmas was fast approaching and my mother … (19 comments)

Are 2nd homes assessed differently than primary residences regarding taxes? - 12/07/09 11:57 AM
A client of mine asked if 2nd homes were taxed differently than primary residences and I replied yes but didn't know the formula. I called the Washington County Assessor's office this morning and asked how 2nd homes are taxed compared to primary residence and I received this answer: Primary residences are taxed at 55% of their assessed value and second homes are assessed at 100% of their assessed value. You get a tax break if it is your primary residence. Utilize your assessor's office when you need answers to questions regarding taxes, they are a great resource! I also suggest that you refer your … (5 comments)

S-T-O-P! Don't jump to conclusions...think about it! - 12/06/09 10:13 PM

S-T-O-P! Don't jump to conclusions...think about it!
Have you had positive outcomes when you jump to conclusions? I can say that I haven't. I have learned that in business as well as, in my personal life, it is best to:
Stand back! Think about the entire situation Organize your thoughts Pull the emotion away from your side before proceeding The real estate industry can be very emotionally challenging due to the nature of the buying and selling process. Potential buyers are making one of the biggest decisions they will ever make in their lifetimes, other than marrying or having children. … (18 comments)

Friday Funnies: Break a Leg! - 12/04/09 11:45 AM

When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the truck, the car, playing golf. Always something more important to me.
Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when … (27 comments)

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): All tuckered out and it's only hump day! - 12/02/09 10:34 AM
Have you ever just ran out of energy by mid-week and had no excuse for it?
At least puppies have a good reason!
Diana, my brother's little Westie goes and goes and goes and lets loose and then gets so tired she just STOPS and literally passes out!
Perhaps my lack of energy is due to the approaching holidays and the hustle, bustle and stress that it creates.
Maybe I should take up:
Physical activity Relaxation techniques Meditation Yoga Tai chi Nah! Or maybe I should just go...
S-H-O-P-P-I-N-G-!  That should bring my energy level up without having to take on a new exercise program! Here … (21 comments)
