Wordless Wednesday (almost!): It's a Echin...Echinop...Echinops...It's a Blooming Cactus! - 04/28/10 08:36 AM

Does anyone have a simpler name for this variety of cacti?
This cactus blooms twice a year and the flowers last only a day or so. The only name I found was Echinopsis Cactus, does anyone know of a simpler name for this variety?
The colors of the blooms come in pink, orange, white and yellow and as you can see, they are very vibrant! I took some amazing shots of the white ones and am going back today to see if I can capture more of their blooming beauty before the flowers close up! They're everywhere here in southern Utah!

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Hula anyone? - 04/25/10 11:20 AM

While out doing yard work, I happened to see this tree we planted several years ago blooming out. Prior to today, I had not seen it all dressed up in its finery. And the first thing that came to mind was the grass skirts that hula dancers wear when performing and when a slight breeze stirred, they started dancing, swaying back and forth!
What comes to your mind?
Happy Sunday to you all!

When is 2 better than 1? - 04/21/10 04:50 PM
When is 2 better than 1?
When your clients close one transaction with you AND they decide to list their second home with you! I am excited to share the great news with all of you because this is an exciting opportunity and I am truly grateful.
When I first met the buyers,  they were reluctant to sign an agreement to represent them but once I sat with them and explained what I was able to do for them, they called me and said they'd sign.
Part of the services I provide to buyers are:

Wordless Wednesday(almost!): Loner - 04/21/10 08:09 AM

When it comes to gardening, I envision how the garden should look after planting a diverse variety of bulbs, seed and plant material but never set my expectations too high. My biggest excitement comes with the flowers finally bud out, spreading their petals and turning on the vibrant color!
So, if there is just one or many, I am still appreciative and thankful of their beauty!
This one in particular is a loner! Happy Wednesday to you all!

Tuesday Tips: Prepare for Plan B! - 04/20/10 03:11 PM
Proper planning can still go awry, especially when attempting to predict the future!
After recently speaking with my sister, I had to laugh as she described the Easter Holiday spent with her daughter, son-in-law and their 2 little ones. In order to get ahead of the game regarding the Easter Egg Hunt the next day, her son-in-law decided to hide all the eggs the night before.
What a great idea! While the children were occupied, he set out in the yard and hid 3 dozen eggs without a single interruption. Aha! Mission accomplished! They went to bed that evening and the next day they … (26 comments)

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Triple Delight! - 04/18/10 01:37 PM

While trying to come up with a fitting title to these beautiful tulips, 'Three times the charm' would have been appropriate but their stunning color urged me to continue searching my mind for a more uplifting description.
Then, all of a sudden, I got it!
One tulip by itself is lovely,
Two tulips are twice as beautiful,
But three are truly a Triple Delight!
Happy Sunday everyone!

Home Selling Tax Benefits - 04/17/10 02:58 PM
This is a timely message from Gabe Sanders regarding the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 and its benefits. I have disabled the comments so you may go directly to Gabe's blog for comments.

Via Gabe Sanders, Stuart Florida Real Estate (Premier Realty Group):
This year’s tax filing season is behind us, but if you sell your home this year (or any other, for that matter), you'll find your home will shelter your taxes as well as your family. Specifically, the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 provides a substantial exemption on your capital gains when you sell. In general terms, when you … (0 comments)

Warning: Phishing scams via telephone - 04/17/10 01:51 PM

Be careful when someone calls your home requesting credit card information. Just this morning, I took a call from a woman claiming that my credit card was sent to collections and she needed some information from me.
Immediately, I questioned her statement saying that my bank has never called requesting information from me, they have my information. She told me I was looking for an argument; I told her "No, you haven't proven to me who you say you are and I'm only protecting my interests" and immediately disconnected the call.
I quickly called my bank and talked with customer service regarding … (15 comments)

Thankful Thursdays: An appreciated burst of color! - 04/15/10 10:10 AM

I seem to be oblivious to my surroundings many days and miss a lot of little things due to the hectic pace of the day's work. Just as I pulled into the driveway, I noticed a burst of color that wasn't there earlier in the day when I left for work.
I had to get closer to see what had captured my attention so quickly and was surprised to see these tulips, just one plant, two flowers that stood out within its surroundings.
I appreciate these moments, especially as I get older because they help to calm the nerves and allow me to appreciate the 'little … (17 comments)

Zero Tolerance on Bullying! - 04/14/10 02:39 PM

Bullying has to stop in the schools! It is DETRIMENTAL to our children's health, performance and self-esteem! In light of recent teenage suicides from the result of bullying, this seriously needs to be addressed and severe consequences need to be dealt regarding the perpetrators!
Unfortunately it doesn't end in school and you'd be amazed how many adult bullies there are in the workplace. People bully when they feel the NEED to CONTROL a situation or person. Bullying also takes many forms, such as:
Name calling Yelling & screaming Finger pointing in face Berating someone in public Defamation of character to … (18 comments)

Motivational Monday: Just Git! - 04/12/10 08:28 AM
Git going! Git moving!
Git some leads Git some clients Git some listings Git some  buyers Git some classes Git some motivation Git yourself in motion The only way to git successful is to git going. For  those still sitting around waiting for the market to change to suit your needs, git going, git moving, just git or git lost. I'd be surprised if you're still gittin' it in this business.
Go, Git now!

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Waiting for its time to go. - 04/11/10 07:20 PM
When spotting an interesting example of unusual architecture while driving, I usually pull over (if time allows), grabbing my camera to capture the shot. This old barn and animal pen in Veyo, Utah has weathered many seasons but still seems determined to stand tall even though it leans way to the left!

Perhaps it leans because of the wind or just that it's getting tired...maybe a little of both. It would've been great to see it alive and utilized in better times; Hay stacked high, pigs in the pens, horses in the corral, chickens clucking instead in a state of disrepair, just sitting alone waiting … (21 comments)

Are you HYPER? I am, thanks to Bob! - 04/10/10 03:08 PM
Just as important as it is to stretch your body before getting out of bed when waking, it's just as important to stretch your abilities when marketing your selling area to your target market.
I have to admit after Bob Stewart's Hyperlocal Contest, I was exhausted but felt a sense of accomplishment after submitting my last hyper local blog. I had to do extensive research, get out in the community, take pictures, reach out and make phone calls in order to get information not publicly available.
All in all, it's invaluable for agents to improve advertising and marketing skills to increase visibility and reach which … (11 comments)

Friday Funnies: There's no robbing this robin! - 04/09/10 08:35 AM
Now that Spring has arrived, birds are busy readying their nests in time for the arrival of little ones.
Robins are very protective of their homes and even to the point of aggressively warning animals or people that come too close.
Our cat, McKenzie was taking a leisurely stroll across the yard, when here comes Mama Robin cutting a clear path in the sky right toward her with blazing speed!
At the last minute, surprised, McKenzie saw her and jumped up and turned a complete flip in the air, landing in the same direction as she started. She seemed dazed but quickly left … (22 comments)

Thankful Thursdays: Overcoming adversity - 04/08/10 08:28 AM

This flowering plum tree sits only 5 feet from the highway and has seen plenty of seasons come and go. During its many years, it has survived severe winds and plenty of inclement weather. As you can see, some of the limbs are broken and now face downward, but yet they still continue to grow and flower every Spring. Even twisted and splintered, the tree continues to flourish and amaze me with its beauty every year.
That is what I consider overcoming adversity.

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): I'm going to be just like you when I grow up! - 04/07/10 08:07 AM

I am so lucky to see the beauty that St. George and the southern Utah area offers every season, every day and as often as I can, I take pictures in order to share it with all of you.

"Let's play ball y'all!" - 04/06/10 08:22 AM
What could be better than sitting in a bleacher seat at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, a brat-with ‘the works' in one hand a cold beverage in the other singing "Take me out to the ball game" along with Harry Caray and the rest of the crowd as the Cubs get ready to play-some-ball!
The Cubs WINNING THE PENNANT of course!
Well until then, there's nothing like being there, to ‘feel' the excitement of a live game! I've been a Cub fan since the 1980s and hope that at some time, in my lifetime, they'll take the pennant.
Until then, I … (20 comments)

Motivational Monday: The cat caught a baby chick...and brought it to me! Oh no! - 04/05/10 08:52 AM
As I was sitting at my computer this morning, I heard some noise off to the west side of the house. I didn't think much of it and continued working on the task at hand.
Suddenly, Hiway, our cat peeked around the corner and presented me with a gift...a baby chick and it was so cute, I had to smile! While I was busy getting to work this Monday morning, so was she.
Somehow, she got into my sons Easter basket and grabbed a plastic egg filled with jelly beans! What a great shot! Ha-ha!
Happy Monday everyone!

Friday Funnies: UP CLOSE and PERSONAL! - 04/02/10 10:48 AM

Our family volunteers many hours each year for southern Utah events or just to brighten someone's day. We spend time stuffing plastic eggs with a variety of candies to hand out to people we meet along the way. We came across this little guy and he was estatic to see the Easter Bunny from a distance away, saying "Hi Easter Bunny!" and waving to him but...when it came down to it, he didn't like being

Getting our blog on in St. George, Utah! - 04/01/10 10:21 PM
Today, I had the pleasure of sharing 2 hours with four professionals in St. George, Utah teaching them the basics in order to set up their accounts on Activerain.
Two real estate agents in my office at Prado Real Estate, Theresa Joers and Robin Emery were present, along with Sarah Border from Inwest Title Services and Sandy Thompson from Axiom Financial. We had a lot of fun going through the profile set-up and laughed most our way through it.
This was an exciting undertaking and I look forward to seeing these ladies learn and grow here in the Rain! Thank you for the opportunity … (16 comments)
