Wildfire season is in full swing in southern Utah. Take no chances!

A seasonal storm can suddenly turn into an out-of-control inferno with one single lightning strike!

Call 911 immediately to avoid any time lost to respond. If you're on the road, drive away from the source of the flames. This is no time to become a curious looky-lou or worse, a statistic because of misjudging the direction of the fire's path!

Wildfire season is here in southern Utah. Below are some some necessary steps for homeowners in outlying areas to prevent the loss of your home.

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Faster than a speeding bullet...

While taking pictures of a field of purple wild flowers in southern Utah, there were numerous sparrows flitting back and forth, diving, climbing, performing aerial maneuvers beyond any speed limits. Imagine my delight when I uploaded the photos to the computer and found this gem!
The bird was travelling so fast, it was a velocitous blur on a clear mission to reach its detination across the meadow or beyond.
Wow, what an interesting shot!

Pioneer Day aka Deliverance Day in The State of Utah July 24th! - 07/23/12 02:28 PM
Pioneer Day aka Deliverance Day in The State of Utah July 24th!
Pioneer Day aka Deliverance Day marks the entry of the first Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley from back east on the 24th of July, 1847. This is a holiday that has strong ties to the LDS faith but is open to everyone to celebrate! Because it is a state holiday, banks and post offices are open on this day.
Local areas offer pioneer activities, rodeos, parades and fireworks displays to celebrate this state of Utah holiday. For more information on Pioneer Day and its history, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_Day_(Utah)

Weathering through or heading to? - 07/19/12 10:06 AM
Weathering through or heading to?

Stormy skies are eerily mesmerizing but can be dangerous in one swift second! We are in our wet season here in southern Utah and the cloud formations quickly skitter, ever evolving, across the uppersphere. Even Hurricane, Utah was issued a tornado warning due to the size, shape and density of the ominous vapors, Glad it did not come to fruition.
The City of St. George has issued warnings regarding waterways and possible flash flooding in those areas. In one hour a trickle of water in a fairly dry riverbed can raise 8 feet and turn into a roaring … (8 comments)

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Reach out, reach out and touch someone. - 07/18/12 01:20 PM
Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Reach out, reach out and touch someone. Hollyhocks are one of my favorite flowers and known to grow upright, stretching toward the sky, their stalks often measuring between six to ten feet and even taller. Apparently this one wished to come down at eye level and say hello to all who hurried past. Hey! Nice to meet you Holly and thank you for reaching out, you certainly brightened my moment! Happy Wednesday all! … (14 comments)

"HomeFinder.com Makeover" Improving listing presentations.
Perhaps a notebook or iPad to streamline listing documents for dependable access to the internet when meeting with potential clients is the next business purchase on my list. Lesson learned after having played the waiting game more than once while the HotSpot for $65 per month fails again.
THAT, I repeat, THAT should never happen when meeting sellers for the first time. Actually, it should NEVER happen!
Good thing I had a back up plan:
I still was able to win the sellers over when the equipment refused to boot up. And had a beautiful 4-color paper presentation as a … (5 comments)

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Look up. Look down. Look all around...

You'll be amazed at what is found!
When visiting new sights, I enjoy when natural light shines through windows, especially overhead. The intricate patterns, shapes and craftsmanship that go into creating such works of art come to the forefront along with a sincere appreciation for beautiful detailing. This dome is no exception.
Enjoy your Sunday, it is indeed a gift!

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Paint horse. - 07/11/12 11:16 AM
Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Paint horse.

My son Spensyr and I were on the way home when we both spotted a beautiful creature behind the fence alongside Hiway 18. I was armed with the phone camera and he had the Kodak in hand and between us we were able to get a great shot while stepping over dried desert plants and sinking into the fine dirt just off the road.
He was not concerned with us in the least and kept to the task of eating while we ooohed and ahhhed over him.
If only I could paint such perfection. He is … (14 comments)

Motivational Monday: Steer clear or the smell will get ya!
Some people invest in the rumor mill and can't wait to find their next unsuspecting audience. Hearsay and gossip can hurt people and create an energy sucking, negative environment.
As real estate agents, we must be respectful of peers, fellow agents and clients. It's most important to:
Maintain professionalism in the workplace Refrain from delivering erroneous information Allow the Code of Ethics be your guide every day Surround yourself with positive, motivated people Avoid negative discussions that put others in a bad light Those who give in to the practice of … (15 comments)

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Kitty rescue along the canal.

Remnants of a dried up can of tuna was all that was left of this kitty's last meal until our son Spensyr and his girlfriend Mandy happened along the canal in Richfield. This Tabby came out of some brush, meowing and they immediately took her home to get a drink of water and more food until they could figure out what to do.
Of course, they sent me this photo and my heart went out to Canal; her new name. After realizing she was sick, the adults drove to an animal shelter that … (17 comments)

A glorious end to the day!

An end that was impossible to ignore as I drove along Hiway 18 towards home. I strive to truly appreciate what is before me, to be forever thankful for the beautiful gifts that are presented every day. Life is the end result of  the choices we make and I wish to be a positive, motivating force.
Why be anything less?

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, it must be a...

35% rain quickly turned into 100% as we came over the rise just before Panquitch Lake. A light sprinkle did nothing to deter us from setting up our spot on the beach. Sitting inside the truck during a downpour or two until we realized there was rain gear in the toolbox.  If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, it must be a duck...oh, wait, that's me in a bright neon yellow slicker with hood and matching pants! Ha!

Motivational Monday: Is your best good enough? - 07/02/12 05:29 AM

Motivational Monday: Is your best good enough? While it is impossible to be all things to all people, you can find out who you are and allow that be your guide. It is imperative to discover your strengths and use them to:
Set priorities Make decisions Have better relationships Accept your own uniqueness Achieve personal and professional success Let go of comparing yourself to others and to the things that have limited you in the past. Realize that you can’t do it all but you can do your best. And that is good enough.
It really is!

Nerdin Gardens Revisited July 2012 ~ Much to be thankful for!

We are in full swing of our growing season here in sunny southern Utah  and as some of you know, we plant over 40 varieties of fruits and vegetables.

The zucchini, crook neck squash, green beans, snow peas, peppers, artichokes and strawberries are coming on quickly now!

We have had a fair share of sweet-n-spicy radishes and turnips will be put in their place.

We have pulled more than 40 artichokes, grilling some and giving some away to family and friends.

This year Mike has … (17 comments)
