Celebrating Pioneer Day Across The State of Utah on July 24th!
Today marks the entry of the first Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley from back east on the 24th of July, 1847. This is a holiday that has strong ties to the LDS faith but is open to everyone to celebrate! Because it is a state holiday, banks and post offices are open on this day.

Recently, I had the honor of attending the Gold Star Monument ceremony that was dedicated to all families that have lost an immediate family member while serving the military. It was held March 26 at Historic Town Square. The U.S. flag hung at half mast in honor of the reverent occasion.
My aunt was a double Gold Star recipient. Her husband, Robert Edwin Graves, an Army Sergeant was held POW and perished in the Korean War, his only son, Randolph Edwin Graves, Specialist E-4, a helicopter gunner was killed in action during the Vietnam War … (23 comments)

There's a ruckus going on in Hurricane, Utah about a restaurant owner's bull mascot, the owner and the local people. Here is the story. Apparently Barista's Restaurant, located in the downtown area of the city has got a lot of people flustered about its sign's over-sized male parts.
This is the sign that is causing an uproar.

Spirit horse or merely drift wood?
An artist's conception of one of nature's most majestic animals, created with pieces of intertwined drift wood, no glue or screws to hold it together. I can just imagine it gracing the open desert plains, throwing up dirt while it charges ever forward, pounding a pattern into the drifting sand, then quietly seeking solace for the day in a slow gait.
Assembled strategically, this artistry creates a whole but seperately are merely pieces of drift wood found in and lying alongside a dry river bed. Amazing what the mind can do when put to.

At Sky Mountain Golf Course that is! My father and mother-in-law are here for a weekend visit and we are playing a round of golf today at one of twelve courses in the area. This morning's temperatures are nice and cool with a slight breeze, perfect for outdoor activities.

Nerdin Gardens 2013: The beginning of a promising growing season.
Weeds are pulled, the raised beds are tilled, water systems ready to be placed and seeds to be sown for another successful garden. The soil, after many previous seasons is a rich combination of nutrients, absolutely perfect to receive nature's gifts.
It may not look like much right now but in a few weeks, this area will come to life with an assortment of fruits and vegetables that will carry us through the summer months, well into fall and winter.

While checking a recent post that had numerous links to shopping, local spas and golf courses in southern Utah, I clicked a few links and realized that 4 no longer worked. Accuracy is so important when sending out blogs about local areas, it lends to credibility, in my opinion.
Information technology is constantly changing and it pays to check and recheck your work. Little did I know the City of St. George, Utah changed their links recently to all their public golf courses in the area, so all showed as broken links.
