We are still mired in the heat of summer in the St. Louis area, including a real estate market that is wilting under the heat. Home prices have been sliding in the St. Louis region including the Metro East Illinois market, along with the number of homes selling in the region.
According to the new figures out this week from regional real estate listing services, overall sales of previously owned homes fell 5 percent in 11 counties compared to last June. Smithton Illinois is a small community apprx 15 miles south of Belleville, IL in St. Clair County.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.3 km²) of it is land and 0.60% is water. As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,248 people, 786 households, and 605 families residing in the village.
