Specifically, I compared December 2008 to 2007 and 2006. Obviously, a single month does not signal a definitive trend, but it was good to see the market holding steady.

A part-owner of a Mexican restaurant in the Fairfax area of Los Angeles (on the West Hollywood border) - El Coyote - confirmed that she donated money to the "Yes on 8 Campaign" in the restaurant's name. El Coyote has 89 employees, many of whom are gay.
El Coyote has a loyal gay clientele and has been a succesful family-owned restuarant since 1931.
Apparently - Marjorie Christoffersen - a part-owner of the restaurant, made the donation when requested to do so by the Mormon Church. Christoffersen said she simply did what her church told her, "El Coyote is as diverse as its clientele … (29 comments)

Another sign of the difficult financial times we're experiencing was evident by an email I received from Bunky's Buddies, a local pet sitting service in West Hollywood.
"It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Bunky's Buddies Pet Sitting and Home Concierge will be closing its business as of December 1st, 2008.  Due financial difficulties, it is no longer profitable to operate Bunky's."
The email explains that effective January 2009 their business will change to an online service called "The Pet Sitters Network".

However, today also marks a sad day as California strips gays of the right to marry.
This is really troubling as California is usually a leader in change with one of the most liberal and foreward thinking electorate. So what went wrong that Proposition 8 will amend the constitution?

Taste on Melrose is a great neighborhood restaurant. It's friendly and relaxed, yet still has an elegant feel about it.
Taste is situated in the heart of the trendy and sophisticated stretch of Melrose - at 8454 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. They have a moderately priced wine list and they've recently obtained a full bar license.
For starters I always recommend one of their Pizzettas. My favorite is the pear & caramelized onion pizzetta with walnuts, gorgonzola and arugula.

Los Angeles has a huge number of restaurants and steakhouses - but BOA must rank as one of the best in the City.
To be more precise, I'm talking about BOA on Sunset Blvd, currently situated in the trendy Grafton Hotel at 8462 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, California. It's been described as offering the best quality steaks surrounded in a sexy decor.
BOA is part of the IDG Dining Group, which also owns Katana & Sushi Roku. There are two other BOA locations - Santa Monica and Las Vegas.

Movietown Plaza, located on the east side of West Hollywood, is to be situated on Santa Monica Blvd. between Fuller Avenue and Poinsettia Place - and will replace the aging Movietown shopping center - home of the original West Hollywood Trader Joe's.

Comme Ca is a trendy, sleek and chic restaurant located on the cool & hip Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Unless you know the location, you could well pass it by.
Their house cocktails are superb and I suggest "The Penicillin" - tasty concoction of scotch, lemon, honey and ginger.
I like the Roasted Beet Salad to start - a light salad with warm goat cheese encrusted with pistachios and horseradish cream. For the main course I highly recommend their Paleron of Beef Bourguignon, served with carrots, and pommes puree. While reading through The Huffington Post today, I saw something that I hadn't heard about before: Sustainable wooden keycards for hotel rooms. What a brilliantly simple idea.
"Sustainable Cards LLC of Boulder has donated more than 70,000 wood hotel key cards to use at hotels throughout the Denver area" - Denver Business Journal.
I checked their website and I love their ideas: sustainable gift cards, membership cards, and hotel key cards.
This reminds me to "never overlook the obvious" .... and "not seeing the wood for the trees".
