weho: Boycott El Coyote - Restaurant owner voted "YES on Prop 8"
- 11/13/08 07:40 AM
A part-owner of a Mexican restaurant in the Fairfax area of Los Angeles (on the West Hollywood border) - El Coyote - confirmed that she donated money to the "Yes on 8 Campaign" in the restaurant's name. El Coyote has 89 employees, many of whom are gay.
El Coyote has a loyal gay clientele and has been a succesful family-owned restuarant since 1931.
Apparently - Marjorie Christoffersen - a part-owner of the restaurant, made the donation when requested to do so by the Mormon Church. Christoffersen said she simply did what her church told her, "El Coyote is as diverse as its clientele
weho: "Never give in, never give in ..." - Proposition 8 is not over
- 11/05/08 10:01 AM
"Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense" - Winston Churchill
The final result of Proposition 8 has not been confirmed as yet. Thousands of concerned citizens are displaying their extreme disappointment with the very close vote by attending community gatherings all over California.
"Never before in California's history has a group, who currently enjoys a basic right, been singled out and then had those rights ripped from them by a vote of their fellow citizens. This decision is so
weho: West Hollywood Pet Sitting Service to change to a "Pet Sitters Network"
- 11/05/08 06:15 AM
Another sign of the difficult financial times we're experiencing was evident by an email I received from Bunky's Buddies, a local pet sitting service in West Hollywood.
"It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Bunky's Buddies Pet Sitting and Home Concierge will be closing its business as of December 1st, 2008. Due financial difficulties, it is no longer profitable to operate Bunky's."
The email explains that effective January 2009 their business will change to an online service called "The Pet Sitters Network".
This could be good business move for the owners of Bunky's as they will still be able to
weho: A great day, yet a sad day for America
- 11/05/08 03:11 AM
Today marks a great day in the history of America - we have an exciting new president elect who can not only set our country back on the right track, bt also restore America's dignity in the International Community. However, today also marks a sad day as California strips gays of the right to marry.
This is really troubling as California is usually a leader in change with one of the most liberal and foreward thinking electorate. So what went wrong that Proposition 8 will amend the constitution?
There was an overwhelming amount of non-Californian financial contributions to supoort Prop 8,
weho: Taste on Melrose - A great local restaurant
- 10/31/08 04:16 AM
Taste on Melrose is a great neighborhood restaurant. It's friendly and relaxed, yet still has an elegant feel about it.
Taste is situated in the heart of the trendy and sophisticated stretch of Melrose - at 8454 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. They have a moderately priced wine list and they've recently obtained a full bar license.
For starters I always recommend one of their Pizzettas. My favorite is the pear & caramelized onion pizzetta with walnuts, gorgonzola and arugula.
For the main course you definitely should try the braised short ribs in a red wine reduction, with gremolta, onions, carrots and a delicious papardelle pasta. Another great dish is the grilled wild
weho: BOA - Probably the Best Steakhouse in Los Angeles
- 10/20/08 03:24 AM
Los Angeles has a huge number of restaurants and steakhouses - but BOA must rank as one of the best in the City.
To be more precise, I'm talking about BOA on Sunset Blvd, currently situated in the trendy Grafton Hotel at 8462 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, California. It's been described as offering the best quality steaks surrounded in a sexy decor.
BOA is part of the IDG Dining Group, which also owns Katana & Sushi Roku. There are two other BOA locations - Santa Monica and Las Vegas.
BOA's Menu has something for everyone, but my favorite starter is the Caesar Salad which is freshly

weho: Is anything wrong with Liberalism?
- 10/04/08 09:31 AM
While reading a Blog on the recent Vice Presidential debate, I came across a comment by an obviously conservative AciveRainer.
Why can't Liberals answer a simple question without getting snippy.
What is good about Liberalism?
This question deserves a proper answer, hence this post. But before I proceed with my answer, I was curious to see some of the titles to his posts: "Anyone excited for deer bowhunting season"; "Will somebody please sell me on Liberalism/Socialism"; "I guess the bailout isn't that urgent".
-- The definition of "Liberalism"on Wikipedia includes the following points: "A broad array of related ideas and theories

weho: The Abbey in West Hollywood -
- 09/13/08 08:14 AM
"The best gay bar to bring a straight friend to" - Los Angeles Magazine
Ideally located at 692 N. Robertson Blvd., (between Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose Avenue), The Abbey Food and Bar is considered one of West Hollywood's premiere gay hotspots.
Originally a coffee-house, The Abbey has been expanded over the years and now has several outdoor patios, indoor lounges, a cabana area and even a dance-floor. There is a full restaurant with round-the-clock (8am-2am) service which features a menu of modern American comfort food, perfect for snacking and dining throughout the day.
Despite it's expensive cocktails, the place is usually crowded. Best nights are on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. Saturday
weho: Movietown Plaza by Casden Properties - A proposed mixed-use development for West Hollywood
- 09/12/08 11:59 AM
Casden Properties is proposing a new development for the City of West Hollywood with construction projected to commence in 2010 and take two years to complete.
Movietown Plaza, located on the east side of West Hollywood, is to be situated on Santa Monica Blvd. between Fuller Avenue and Poinsettia Place - and will replace the aging Movietown shopping center - home of the original West Hollywood Trader Joe's.
The original plans evoked neighborhood criticism; local residents complained of too much mass, too much traffic descending on their streets, and too many people moving in.
Revised plans received a better response when "the taller elements were shifted to the rear
weho: Urth Caffe - Exclusively organic coffeeshop
- 09/08/08 04:41 AM
Urth Caffé is an organic coffee company that exclusively carries its own brand of premium, fresh roasted whole bean organic coffee and hand selected fine teas.
Although there are Urth Caffe locations in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, my favorite is on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.
Place your order at the inside counter and then take a seat on the outside patio. Enjoy your meal on the terrace, taking in the good weather and watching an ecclectic array of manicured models, tanned buff bodies, movie-people, and wanna-be's too.
Their coffee is magnificent and I recommend their Cafe Mocha (It's delicious, rich and creamy and
weho: Comme Ca - Recommended Restaurant in the trendy Melrose area
- 09/05/08 06:18 PM
Comme Ca is a trendy, sleek and chic restaurant located on the cool & hip Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Unless you know the location, you could well pass it by.
Their house cocktails are superb and I suggest "The Penicillin" - tasty concoction of scotch, lemon, honey and ginger.
I like the Roasted Beet Salad to start - a light salad with warm goat cheese encrusted with pistachios and horseradish cream. For the main course I highly recommend their Paleron of Beef Bourguignon, served with carrots, and pommes puree. The macaroni and cheese is a great side dish and big enough for two or three people to share. For dessert I enjoy their

weho: Pinkberry - Swirly Goodness .... the new Frozen Yoghurt Sensation
- 08/26/08 03:00 AM
There's a new Frozen Yogurt sensation that began in a small shop in West Hollywood and has now grown to be an overwhelming success throughout Los Angeles - it's called Pinkberry.
Pinkberry is a simple yet extremely delicious product: basic frozen yogurt served with toppings of your choice. At first they only served the "original" flavor, a natural slightly sour yogurt and green tea, but have recently coffee as well.
The choice of toppings include fruits like strawberry, pineapple, and kiwi fruit, and other toppings include chocolate chips, shaved almonds, granola and coco pebbles.
The yogurt is made with with skim milk and non-fat yogurt with active and live cultures

The small and unhurried open-air market is situated in a trendy area surrounded by designer stores like Marc Jacobs, Diesel, and antique stores. Shoppers can buy California Certified Produce and also find local artisans, crafters and food vendors.
Their Mission Statement sums it up best: " We strive to create opportunities to educate the general public on the many social, health and economic benefits of eating locally grown food. We work to create an atmosphere that enables social connections and community
weho: Seeing the wood for the trees
- 08/21/08 05:15 PM
While reading through The Huffington Post today, I saw something that I hadn't heard about before: Sustainable wooden keycards for hotel rooms. What a brilliantly simple idea.
"Sustainable Cards LLC of Boulder has donated more than 70,000 wood hotel key cards to use at hotels throughout the Denver area" - Denver Business Journal.
I checked their website and I love their ideas: sustainable gift cards, membership cards, and hotel key cards.
This reminds me to "never overlook the obvious" .... and "not seeing the wood for the trees".
