Under the tent on the Garrett College grounds will be a true celebration of patriotism with a concert from both Garrett Community Concert Band and the Garrett Coral Society. What an extended weekend we're wrapping up on here at Deep Creek Lake and Wisp Resort! We've had 8 inches of snow since Monday morning and another possible foot today and tonight. The State Highway Administration has our total accumulation this season, as of Monday morning, at 205". Our record seasonal snowfall is 233" which I'm fairly confident we'll blow by this year. Below is an upcoming crazy fun event at Deep Creek Lake for the whole family and I wanted to let you know about it. It supports a great cause. Downtown Oakland always has one of the first and nicest signs of the holiday season approaching. Each year, at the corner of Second and Liberty Street (in the window of the First United business offices), Scott Atwill shares his extensive LGB Train (G gauge) collection and layout with the community. One of the most photographed areas in Garrett County is the Oakland Train Station. Local photographer, Jim Crabtree, worked his usual photo magic this summer on this particular photograph. A combination of 5 images, it showcases the beautiful brickwork and truly captures the personality of this grand old building. I have a copy hanging in my office. One of the most common questions I am asked about Deep Creek Lake and Wisp, is "how much snow do you get in an average year?" - I must first say that almost no year is average, weather wise at least. I did however find a great chart tracing total snowfall for Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County since 1940. In two of those years, 1996 and 2003 we had over 200 inches of snow.

The Deep Creek Dunk, sponsored by the Maryland State Police to benefit Spedical Olympics will be held tomorrow, Saturday, February,28th 2009, at Pizzeria Uno's. The dunk is free to spectators and promises a day full of fun while at Deep Creek and Wisp Resort.

Pokey is 6th in the country. Over 1400 votes. Sounds like he is quite proud of himself - holding his tail a little higher than normal. Slobbering more than usual as well. As winter starts to wind down at the Wisp, my thoughts always turn quickly to summer. As a child my favorite season of the year. Deep Creek has many personalities, but one that most people forget about is the south east end of the lake with the sailing clubs. By Betsy Spiker A little late in sharing this but I still can't quit talking about the amazing experience I was afforded in watching Super Bowl 43 live. Hearing from my family in Sarasota, it was believed by the Florida locals that there were only Steeler fans around. But, that was definitely not true, although it wasn't too apparent until game day. Cardinal fans came out of the woodwork Sunday morning and the pre-party began in all of the parking areas. This was just the beginning of an exciting day (and night).
