Some houses present challenges for us at Gloria Home Staging. This one had lines everywhere. The house was a beautiful log cabin near Orlando. While we were in the home doing our walk through, we did not notice how many lines there were. Looking at the pictures to begin our planning was a bit of a shock. There were lines on the tiled floor. On the walls there were lines from the loft, lines in the windows, lines on the ceiling, lines even from the blankets on the banister. In the pictures it was busy, not restful and inviting.

Knowing that buyers are looking at homes first online, we knew we had to do something to break up all the lines, and on a small budget. As we worked through the pictures, we puzzled over the problem and decided to bring in as many round or free flowing things as we could, and to take down the blankets to eliminate some of the lines. As we worked through the house on the day of the staging, we also found that putting some of the furniture on a diagonal helped break up the lines. When we finished we ask the owner if it felt too empty or strange. Her reply was, "It just feels clean."

I had the privilege of attending the Stagerlist Expo Orlando located at the Cort Furniture in Winter Park. Every one of the presenters challenged me to make my staging business better and gave ways for me to accomplish this. The ideas formarketing, portfolio development. SEO,and staging green had relevent and up to date information that will help my partner and I colaborate more effectively with the Realtors and home owners alike. It was truly a great use of my continuing education time. Thank you Expo staff and presenters.

One Stager's Philosophy

I believe that there is an "infinite pie" in the home staging industry. There are more than enough houses on the market to either stage or redesign for all of us to keep busy for a good while, if we all work together to educate the public and Realtors to the advantages of our business. The more stagers share the benefits of our labor, the more we help everyone involved. The stager makes a home beautiful for the seller. The Realtors have a more marketable product and the buyer is able to see themselves living in the home. Everyone wins.

The other aspect to the infinite pie philosophy is that we all are colleagues and not competitors.  Each one of us has strengths and weaknesses, so by sharing knowledge and time with each other we better the industry as a whole. There are things I can learn from each one of the stagers no matter how new or how seasoned, as well as being willing to help my fellow stagers with what I have learned. Pooling our knowledge in any of the venues like Active Rain, bulletin boards with RESA, ASHSR, IRIS, SDP or any other group will only strengthen our ability to do our jobs. The creativity each one of us brings to our own business can grow exponentially when shared with others. Not one of us will do the exact same thing even if we duplicate an idea because we will put our own touches on the idea to make it our own. There is so much camaraderie in working as colleagues to better what we do separately and collectively.
