"Bluffton, it's a state of mind" is the common phrase and way of life for the residents of our small but growing coastal town just over the bridge from Hilton Head Island. Bluffton originated as an antebellum retreat for plantation owners who built homes and cottages on the riverbanks of a breezy raised bluff to escape the inland summer heat. Bluffton has experienced recent growth in popularity, population and actual size through city annexation, yet is still is being referred to by some as "the last true coastal village of the South". ;)
