EOP Real Estate, LLC is my new home - 11/28/09 08:16 PM
I just transferred my license to EOP Real Estate, LLC. I got my license 2 years ago and affiliated with the Long & Foster office in Olney, MD. I was very impressed with the dynamic manager and immediately felt at home there. Over these 2 years the office has seen many changes, some for the better, others not. I have developed very special relationships with the other agents and I have learned a lot from them. I am confident that these friendships and relationships will endure even though several of us have changed companies. I have since moved (personally) from Olney and it was becoming (17 comments)
Via Lesley Burton-Dallas (Turtle Clan Environment Testing, Inc.): Most Americans spend about 90 percent of their time indoors, where they are repeatedly exposed to indoor allergens and airborne particles that can lead to respiratory symptoms and conditions. It has been said that the indoor air quality of an average home is worse than the outside environment! According to experts at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and the American Academy of Allergy,Asthma and Immunology(AAAAI)
Damp environments, poorly maintained heating and air-conditioning systems and carpeting... ...may contribute to poor indoor air quality.

Via Donna Ross - Home Staging, Sydney, Australia (Great Impressions Real Estate Staging & Consulting - Sydney): Home staging (or property styling as it's commonly known as on the Australian property scene) is really an art, not a science. One of the many things a professional home stager understands is that it's the house that's up for sale, not the home owner's bread baking ability or taste in music. So, from the sublime to the rediculous - here's 8 myths of staging to sell - busted! 1. Buyers can see past my stuffNo - they can't. 95% of house hunters shop with a (4 comments)
Why won't you call me back? - 11/16/09 06:08 PM
This is a mini-rant. I have buyers who have looked at several homes and are close to making a final decision. A house came on the market last week that is in their price range and in a neighborhood they like and they want to take a look at it before making a final choice. I called the listing agent on Saturday and left a message explaining that I wanted to show the home on Sunday afternoon. I called again on Sunday morning and left the same message. My call was never returned. The buyer and I postponed the showing until (12 comments)
Check your credit card fine-print - 11/15/09 09:17 AM
Recently my husband opened a mailing from one of his credit card companies letting him know that his interest rate was being raised from 10% to approximately 30%. Of course he was furious and instantly called the company. He was informed that there was nothing that could be done about the change. The woman even commented that since he didn't carry a balance she didn't know why it mattered to him. For him, it was the principle. My husband has had this card for 14 years. He pays his bills on time and does not carry a balance. However, he uses (5 comments)
My "baby" has the flu! - 11/13/09 06:55 PM
I agonized over whether to get the Swine flu vaccines for my kids. Eventually I decided to err on the side of caution. My 7 year old daughter was able to get the flu mist vaccine at school. However, my 4 year old has not had any access to the vaccine. He cannot receive the mist because he is prone to wheezing and there have been no shots available at the doctor offices. This morning he woke complaining that his stomach hurt, then his head, and eventually he said that everything hurt. By the time we got to the doctor he (14 comments)

I just got the best compliment from my buyer - 11/12/09 06:12 PM
I have been working with a buyer who is purchasing a home in Maryland for $69,000. In Maryland it is pretty rare to see single family homes under $100,000. This home is a foreclosure that is in move-in condition and only needs a bit of work to be gorgeous. My buyer plans to fix it up and use it as a rental property. The transaction has hit quite a few hurdles with the seller not being able to turn the water on for the home inspection and then having errors on the deed. We were originally supposed to close on October 14. (31 comments)

Execution Day for the DC Sniper - 11/09/09 06:05 PM
The DC Sniper, John Muhammad, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection in Virginia tomorrow. I still remember the terror that gripped the area when this rampage was ongoing. I had returned from my grandfather's funeral in Jamaica on the day the shootings began. I lived less than 3 miles from one site and frequented many of the other sites targeted that day. In the weeks that followed I remember feeling like a hostage in my home. I was on maternity leave with my 3 month old daughter. My husband didn't want us going for walks, or to the (7 comments)
When did healthcare reform become curse words? - 11/09/09 09:08 AM
I usually steer clear of political discussions but some days I do feel compelled to weigh in. This morning as I was driving in to work I was listening to an interview with Republican Dick Armey and I began to feel very insulted. He is opposed to a government run healthcare. He discussed how ridiculous it was to mandate that health care be offered to people with pre-existing conditions. His quote was "why should the government force a health plan to cover someone with liver disease because they drink or someone who got diabetes because they eat like a pig?" I couldn't (18 comments)
Via Sybil Campbell Realtor, ABR, SRES Williamsburg Va homes for sale (Long and Foster, REALTORS®): Do you have questions about the new home buyer tax credit? You may be able to find your answers here.

Where is the accountability on the REO seller's side of the deal? - 11/06/09 06:30 PM
I have a buyer who is trying to close on an REO property that has been on the market for almost 500 days. She made a cash offer with a 7 day home inspection contingency and a 14 day closing. The closing date was supposed to be 10/14/2009. The contract states that if it fails to close because of a buyer delay that the bank will charge the buyer $200 extension fee and $100 per day, as well as charge the buyer's agent $20 per day.
Immediately after contract ratification we attempted to schedule the home inspection. The problem, there (6 comments)
Via JJ and Suzanne Greive - Seattle Area ASHI Inspections (Home Inspections of Puget Sound): With winter on its way a few routine steps will help keep you safe, comfortable and save you money. Take care of safety Items first Check your smoke detectors. If you have an attached garage, live in multi-family, or have gas, oil or wood burning appliances, you must have a carbon monoxide detector!! All homes should have them, since there is no way to tell if you have a problem with CO. Most people never know they have a problem until someone is make sick or they (2 comments)
